Epcot Food & Wine Festival Food Pictures: Mexico, Singapore, and South Africa Booths

After a wonderful WDW Foodie Fest today, I was inspired to keep going on our tour around the World Showcase Booths here at the 2010 Epcot Food and Wine Festival! Mexico
Mexico is a strong booth this year. A long menu, some great variety, and large portions make this spot a meal in itself. They’ve also got a fun frozen non-alcoholic drink that we loved. You can see more pictures, the full menu, and prices on our Mexico Booth Page!

Singapore
A re-introduced booth this year, Singapore has some interesting dishes to try. Now, my husband knows me well, and he knows that when I say something is “interesting,” it usually means I didn’t like it all that much. ;-) This booth challenged my taste buds, which is always a good thing in my book. Even the Singapore Sling was a bit too strong for my taste. I’d love to hear what some of you thought of the dishes!

South Africa
South Africa brought back last year’s superstar dish — Seared Beef Tenderloin with Sweet Potato Purèe and Mango Barbecue Sauce — and added a new option: the Flavors of Africa (Salad, Bread, and Spreads). The beef was delicious and slightly spicy-sweet, and the flavors of Africa will remind you of your recent trip to Jiko or Sanaa, both of which serve very similar dishes as appetizers.     Just got back from food and wine and the standout for us was the Coconut-Braised, Beef Rendang with Jasmine Rice. Did not look too pretty but it was the best thing at the show. Also had the Flavors of Africa from this page and liked the green dipping sauce very much. the salad was ok and the red dipping sauce was pretty flavorless!

    Can’t wait to try that yummy looking margarita! We hope to visit the festival in a few weeks. How have the crowds been? Was the weekend just crazy crowded?

    IF you hadn’t said Mexico was a superstar booth I probably would have skipped it. Now I’m going to have to try something. The Esquites looks good.

    Singapore was going to be a skip for me because I don’t like coconut or shrimp. I’ll try to find something there I’m not disposed against and tell you what I think.

    I love African food and everything from South Africa looks good. This will be an issue for me. I guess I’ll do the tenderloin because the flavors are so close to what I can get at the wonderful Sanaa.

    I really find it interesting in to how they keep the Mexico booth dishes true to the name and how they don’t translate it into English and American-ize it. I’m quite fluent in it, so I know that the “Tamal de Pollo” is the Chicken Tamale.

    Also, what is the stick-looking object that is sticking out of the Shrimp Cake?

    @Dana: From the pictures that AJ has shown, it looks quite crowded indeed. But you have to keep in mind that this is the first weekend! ;)

    Alison — I’m SO glad you liked the beef; we weren’t big fans, unfortunately, so it’s good to hear that it just wasn’t for our palate. ;-)

    Gray — This one was S-T-R-O-N-G!!!

    Dana — The weekend was horribly crowded, but today it seems to have emptied out a lot.

    GG — Mexico was good; definitely hit that one. And Puerto Rico!!

    Josh — I’m pretty sure that was, indeed, a stick. ;-)

    Agree about Mexico. Despite having eaten at San Angel last week, I still wanted to stop for the Taco de Chilorio, which was delicious. It was particularly hot that day (given how mild it was all week) so the Conga fruit punch was a great beverage to go along with it. They had really nice variety despite having to contend with two table restaurants and a counter service!

    My wife had the shrimp cake (with white rice instead of the noodles) and that tasted good as well.

    I’m curious, what exactly did the “Flavors of Africa” consist of? I see fufu (maybe) but don’t know from wat else.

    Jason — I loved that Conga Fruit Punch!

    Robin — The esquites was a little too mayonnaise-y for me, but it was still delicious. :-)

    Michael — Good question! I know the orange dipping sauce was a lot like the Jiko butter — ginger, cilantro kind of taste. Will ask hubby if he remembers about the rest!

    I was able to enjoy the festival early November. One of my favs was the coconut beef, I have been craving it and looking for a recipe since. I also tried beers around the world which was a fun experience as well out there. I tried to take a picture of all of teh taps or bottles, only one place would not let me. It was a great time and we are planning our next Disney trip around the festival again.
