Review: Camp Snacks at Camp Minnie Mickey in Animal Kingdom

Editor’s Note: Camp Snacks has closed permanently.

We’re gonna head back over to the Animal Kingdom today, because I found a couple of desserts in Camp Minnie Mickey that I couldn’t wait to share with you!

After many years, Chip and Dale have vacated this snack bar, and now it’s serving up hot dogs, drinks, chips, and a few sweet treats.

These are walk-up windows; you won’t find any indoor seating here. But hey! We’re at Camp Minnie Mickey, right? And so we’ve got to rough it just a bit.

Seating Area

This is a good spot to grab a bite while you’re waiting for your turn at the Festival of the Lion King!

You won’t find a ton of topping options for your hot dogs, though. Pretty much you’ll have your pick of mustard or ketchup with some packaged relish.

But I wasn’t here for the dogs on this day. It was sweet treats that drew me to the little cabin!

Strawberry Shortcake

We are big fans of Strawberry Shortcake around here, so this was a must try!

Made with real, live pound cake; thick, sweet strawberry topping; and a generous crown of whipped cream, this looked pretty good!

Strawberry Shortcake

And it was! There was a good cake-to-topping-to-whipped-cream ratio, and that’s a pretty important factor for making a good strawberry shortcake. In hindsight, I would have asked for a bit of vanilla soft serve on top!!

But, even as is, I think this gives Sunshine Seasons’ strawberry shortcake a run for its money.

Worms ‘n Dirt Sundae

Next, there was no way I was passing up the chance to eat a Worms ‘n Dirt Sundae. Seriously. And with Halloween just around the corner, this was the perfect time for it!

Vanilla soft serve, topped with cookie crumb “dirt,” seasonal sprinkles, and a wiggly worm peeking out of the side — what’s not to like? Your kids will love the gross deliciousness of the whole thing. Because I totally did. ;-)

And not to worry — you don’t get just one worm! I found at least two, maybe three, buried in my sundae.

It’s a little different than the version you’ll find at the Pop Century Resort Food Court, but every bit as yum, in a cold, soft serve kinda way.

So, if you find yourself in this part of the park, parched, starving, or just in need of a little treat, definitely give the petite snack cabin a try! The strawberry shortcake was a super fun find for me, and I know your kiddos will love those worms ‘n dirt!

Have you tried the strawberry shortcake or worms ‘n dirt sundae at Camp Minnie Mickey? Which one would you choose?

This food counter seems to be aimed at kids and my wife. A hot dog followed by dessert would always make her happy. The problem with that area of the park, is that there is not much to do beside the Lion King show, so it basically is in and out of that area and on to the next attraction. I think this area is close to where the Avatar area will be built. Maybe that will spur some new eateries for us to enjoy.

Alan — Agreed that there’s just not much to do in this area of the park anymore. The only real “dining” is this snack stand and a funnel cake stand nearby. I’d love to see a rustic table-service or counter-service spot here! And if Avatar land happens, I know they’d create some seriously awesome restaurants for that!

My grown child had a worms ‘n dirt pudding cup thingie the other day at the zoo and loved it. I’m sure he’ll love this as well.

  4. Another Strawberry Shortcake find! It holds a special place in my heart since my mom used to make a Strawberry Shortcake every year for my birthday. I love to see Disney serve up the same dessert in different ways. I’m already a huge fan of the Hoop-Dee-Doo Strawberry Shortcake— now I will need to check out Camp Minnie Mickey’s, along with Sunshine Season’s version.

Any other variations around the World I should check out? Thanks for sharing!

  6. Ah! Amazing! I loved the Strawberry Shortcake round up. I better start hitting the gym before my next trip. : )

Now that Lion King has moved where has the Strawberry Shortcake stand moved to in Animal Kingdom?
