Dining in Disneyland: Award Wieners Serving Up OZ Themed Menu Items

With Disney’s Oz the Great and Powerful still in theaters, Disney California Adventure’s Award Wieners is offering two Oz themed menu items.

Wizard Blizzard

The Wizard Blizzard is the featured “Oz” drink. For $6.25 you can get yourself a glowing glass of green apple-ish lemonade that Disney calls “A Whirlwind of Flavor.”

With an official description of  “Mysteriously glowing Minute Maid Light Lemonade with a breeze of Granny Smith Apple Flavor topped with Citrus Foam,” the lemonade to me was just OK.  It was more bitter than sweet, and I didn’t really taste the citrus in the foam.

My kids however, loved it. The color, the glowing ice cube and the taste; they totally went for it.

Yellow Brick Roll

The featured Oz hot dog was the “Yellow Brick Roll, Your Pathway to Oz the Great and Powerful.” Or, depending on your stomach strength, it may be your pathway to heartburn! ; )

This all beef Kobe, Chicago style hot dog is served “In a Cheddar Poppy Yellow Roll with Dill Pickles, Tomatoes, Onions, Pepperoncinis, and Sweet Emerald Green Relish.”

Because I’m not a big raw onion or tomato eater, I modified the dog a bit before eating it. I removed “most” of the onions and tomato before digging in, so I apologize now for not knowing what the “complete” dog tastes like!

I did enjoy the flavors of yellow mustard with the dill pickle and sweet pickle relish. I also liked the spiciness of the pepperoncinis.  The hot dog was juicy and cooked just right.

But, my most favorite part of the Yellow Brick Roll, was the ROLL!  The Cheddar Poppy roll was not yellow, but it was coated in a fabulous crispy layer of cheddar that made me really happy.

Overall

It was kind of a little adventure for me try this combo. It’s not the type of meal I usually order, but it was fun to check out something new!

I love that Award Wieners features creative menu items that correspond with current Disney films.  I’m looking forward to keeping an eye on their menu to see what the Disney hot dog “artisans” come up with next.

Do you keep an eye out for Award Wieners specially themed menu items? Have you ever tried one? What did you think?

That hot dog looks amazing, not gonna lie.

Looks good, but what’s up with the name? Are they trying to lead us to believe that it is a hot dog made with Kobe beef? That’s laughable at best, base deception at worst. Given the prices of *real* Kobe beef in the US (http://onforb.es/11enGzN) there is no way anyone is making hot dogs out of it. I suppose I could be wrong. If I am, I’ll gladly eat my words, but I’m not.

    @NT3 – The truth is good! ; )

@James D. – I will see if I can get more info. My guess is that there is a small portion of Kobe in the “meat” mix.

True Kobe beef is simply NOT available in the U.S. Any claim of “Kobe” beef here is bogus. It’s like champagne, only sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France can legally be called champagne. I wish it were the same for Kobe beef.
