Snack Series: Frozen Cheesecake On A Stick at Disneyland Resort

OK, you guys. Frozen. Cheesecake.

We first told you about this fantastic little Gelato Bars kiosk in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney last year. And, well…you know I can’t resist some good gelato! So I couldn’t wait to hit it up on my recent trip to Disneyland.

Gelato Bar Kiosk

When it first appeared, there was a pretty extensive menu of Gelato Bars, consisting of fabulous flavors and garnishes. These days, the gelato bar selection has been pared down to five varieties.

But before you become too sad about that — look at what they’ve added: Frozen Cheesecake! On. A. Stick.

There’s also a selection of Hot Chocolates (complete with hot chocolate on a stick) as well as a Gelato Cookie Sandwich (!) and a Frozen Banana dipped in Ghirardelli Chocolate. A selection of bottled beverages rounds out the menu.

But that’s not all there is to tell you about this spot. As seems to be the standard in Disneyland, there are little “models” of the food selections! I think the “bedazzled” Birthday Cake one is my favorite.

Examples of Gelato Bars -- Cute!

Here are the examples of the cheesecake bars, which are available plain or with a strawberry garnish. The hot chocolate on a stick is represented, too.

Visual aids are also there for the chocolate-covered banana and gelato sandwich. :-)

But my mind was already made up, and I went for one cheesecake bar. Strawberry, please.

And I know what you’re thinking: “AJ, that’s as hard as a rock and you’re gonna break your teeth.”

Frozen Strawberry Cheesecake and Its Plastic Counterpart

I thought so, too; and I was worried. But that wasn’t the case! I was shocked to realize that it wasn’t frozen solid (maybe that has something to do with all of the fat in that cheesecake! ;-D), and it was surprisingly easy to bite into the creamy cheesecake.

The slice was a huge portion, and I was very happy that they hadn’t skipped a thick graham cracker crust.

Frozen Strawberry Cheesecake

My take? This was absolutely delicious. One of those things that I don’t truly enjoy enough while I’ve got it, so I have to sit here and crave another one on my next trip to Disneyland!

As for the gelato bars, they will have to wait for another day, but I love this as an option! It’s just different enough to catch my interest. And in a surprising move, the price has actually decreased since the time the cart debuted. No telling if this is a seasonal change, or if it will stay that way. But for now, it’s a pretty cool trend to note!

Are you swooning for a gelato or cheesecake bar? Leave a comment and tell us which one you would pick!

OMG I just had oatmeal for breakfast and all I can think about is how badly I want one of those cheesecake bars right now!! Mmmm

  2. Prof. Brainard says

Cheesecake is good any way it comes, but let’s make sure I have this right. The texture is soft enough that you can eat it by taking full bites? Many foods served on sticks are consumed by licking and sucking, such as lollipops and popsicles, and at first I thought that might be the case here (though the shape is wrong for sucking). Many foods on sticks are also put there to make them mobile. I have a hard time imagining people walking along sucking cheesecake (though I have no particular objection). It’s much easier to picture them walking along taking bites from it.

Also, I am bewildered by hot chocolate on a stick. Hot chocolate is, by definition, a liquid, so putting it on a stick would mean changing it to a solid. The only way I can think to do this is by freezing, at which point it no longer becomes “hot” chocolate, but rather “cold” chocolate (a mere fudgsicle). The plastic examples are not much help. I will await a future post for the answer, since I know I have deviated from the main topic of cheesecake-on-a-stick.

Yum! Those all look so delicious – I wish they had more fun things like this at WDW! I feel like Disneyland has all the really unique foods. <– Jealousy :)

  4. Brooke says

So YUM! Thanks for sharing! As a side note, we’ve had key lime pie frozen on a stick in Key West (there’s actually a shop here near Orlando that sells it too.) WDW – are you listening??? That would be an awesome way to add some local flavor, I’m thinkin.

This reminds me of Wunderbars. When I lived in Houston, the AM/PM near my work sold them. They were frozen bars of cheesecake covered in dark chocolate on a stick and they were the best thing ever. I haven’t found them since I moved in 1989, but I still remember them vividly.

Prof B. — No kidding, the cheesecake is definitely soft enough to bite. It’s like a hard ice cream texture. Kind of amazing.

The hot choc on a stick has been a trend for a while. Basically you have a cup of hot chocolate already, but the solid chocolate on the stick is meant to be swirled in the liquid and melted there to make the beverage more decadent. :)

  7. Prof. Brainard says

Thanks, A.J.! Cheesecake and chocolate (hot) are great things to put on sticks! Just think of all the other “ch” foods that could be impaled on sticks at Disney parks . . . cheese, churros, cherries, chimichangas, Cheetos, chili, and chicken pot pie!

  8. Angelina says

I had the same thought as Prof. Brainard regarding the “frozen hot chocolate.” Can someone please do a review of that next?!?! I wonder if it really makes a difference.

As far as the cheesecake on a stick, I have seen this done in many different ways. I worked at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and we used to serve them dipped in dark or milk choc and then covered in peanuts, almonds or sprinkles. (Had the same process for ice cream bars and frozen bananas). The warm chocolate made the cheesecake soften up just enough to enjoy!

  9. Frankie says

I hope they have this in WDW soon! and if they dipped it in chocolate, that would be great too! In fact they should also add frozen Key Lime pie on a stick!

  10. Jodi S. says

Can’t wait to have one of these in less than 2 months!! Thanks for letting us know about it!!
