A few years ago, I had an opportunity to have a meeting over lunch at the 50s Prime Time Cafe inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It was my first introduction to the restaurant, and boy did I fall in love with it!
Mom was in the kitchen cooking up nostalgic dishes like pot roast, fried chicken, pork chops, meat loaf, and other Americana favorites! Since I had never been, our friend Leni from Disney said we had to order the PB&J milkshake. Seriously, we were intrigued…the classic PB&J now combined with a milkshake? We had to try it!
It was amazing, and is seriously the reason I fell in love with this restaurant! Well, the milkshake and also the fact that your waitress yells at you to finish your vegetables and to clean your plate or no dessert for you!
Ever since then, I have made it my mission to at least grab a PB&J milkshake every time I visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
I was excited…ok, actually beyond ecstatic to find the recipe for the very unique PB&J Milkshake in my Delicious Disney cookbook! Now I can have this treat anytime I want to at home! It’s seriously super easy to make and will definitely make you the most popular mom in the neighborhood!
Let’s get started:
Makes 1 full size shake
-2 tbsp peanut butter
-2 tbsp grape jelly
-2 cups vanilla ice cream
-1/4 cup milk
See? Already super easy when it comes to the ingredients list! Here are the super-simple steps to make one of Disney’s most iconic milkshakes…
Step 1: In a blender, scoop in 2 cups of vanilla ice cream.
Step 2: Add 1/4 cup of milk to the blender.
Step 3: Add 2 tbsp peanut butter to the blender.
Step 4: Add 2 tbsp grape jelly to the blender.
Step 5: Turn blender on high and let it blend all the ingredients!
-Serve in fun glasses, top with whipped cream and a cherry. Enjoy!!!
While it’s fun to make these at home for movie nights, pool parties, the kids’ sleepovers and really just about anything that involves people, you also have to try the original for yourself! You know, just to compare!
And I’ll let you in on a lil secret!!! Shhh…don’t tell anyone else. Promise!?! Ok, here it goes…you don’t have to have reservations at the very popular 50’s Prime Time Cafe to try the PB&J milkshake! Here’s the deal, the Tune-In Lounge is the waiting area/lounge of the restaurant! It looks and feels like a living room right out of the 50’s.
You can walk into the Tune-In Lounge any time of day without reservations and order anything off the full menu, including the PB&J Milkshake! This is how I get to enjoy one every time we visit the park!
A Few Lessons I Learned
Really, there’s not a lot to change about this little recipe, it’s pretty perfect as is. But here are a few helpful hints.
-I did find it easier just to take a spoon and scoop 2 blobs of peanut butter and 2 blobs of jelly into the blender instead of measuring perfect tablespoons.
-Make a healthier version of this milkshake by adding sugar free jam or jelly, almond butter, low fat milk, and frozen yogurt to the blender. Yum! Another great reason to make these at home…you know what’s going into the blender!
