News: Cosmetic Changes and a Menu Refresh for Captain’s Grille at Disney’s Yacht Club

At Disney Food Blog, we have long regarded Captain’s Grille at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort as one of the Walt Disney World’s best kept secrets!

Rarely crowded, especially during the day, it’s a fantastic place to take in a serene lunch if you find yourself advance dining reservation-less.

So we were excited to find out that this favorite spot of ours has recently undergone a bit of a refresh. While it’s not a complete refurbishment, the restaurant has added new tables and chairs, and walls have been brightened with new wallpaper and paint. (I’m hoping that means the cool moving shadow boxes made the cut!)

But the real story is the addition of more than three dozen new dishes across the breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus. And Chef David Hutnik promises there will be more added to the list in 2014! So be sure to keep on the look out!

We had the chance to sample the New England Clam Chowder with Bacon and Chive Biscuits on a recent lunch date at Captain’s Grille.

With clams in the shell and rich biscuits floating on top, this rich soup is out of this world!

Guests can enjoy equally delicious treatment across all three meals, however. We are hearing rave reviews about the Butter Poached Lobster with Asparagus, Chive Cream, and Hash Browns on the breakfast menu. Guest can choose from an all-you-care-to-enjoy buffet for their morning meal, or opt for the a la carte offerings.

And it also sounds like there are some truly excellent vegetarian options. Each evening for dinner, there is a Chef’s Vegetarian Inspiration that includes seasonal flavors. The current dish includes Sweet Potato Tortellini with Cranberry Relish, Spice almonds and Brown Butter Rosemary Beurre Blanc. YUM!

For dinner, the Cabernet-Braised Short Rib, which is slow-cooked for six hours and served with Corn Risotto, promises to be a big hit with guests.

To complement the new menu, the restaurant is now also serving Wine Flights at lunch and dinner, which even include some selections from the North Fork area of Long Island!

With lots of new dishes across the entire menu, we’ll definitely be heading to Captain’s Grille in the near future.

WOW – this stuff looks amazingly delicious! Especially the short rib/risotto… yum! The only thing that throws me off here is the chowder. Being a New England girl, I have to tell you, that doesn’t look anything like what we serve up here!

    Love your blog. LOVE!

I used to live between Avon and Boston, and totally concur with you, this doesn’t look at all like our kind of NE Chowder….I have tasted the bests at Cape Cod, and also the Copley Place in downtown Boston (suddenly I am craving one tho lol)

    By the way, Go Pats!

I concur! Doesn’t look like any clam chowders I’ve eaten up here, but looks delish! Appears to be flour-less and lighter. Now I am thinking for my already PACKED dining schedule in May, we should stop here for breakfast or lunch. Staying at the Yacht club, so it makes sense!

We ate dinner at Captains Grille in November, our first time here and the food was DELICIOUS and the service was amazing! There were only 2 other tables in the restaurant with customers having dinner, very quiet and relaxing. We will definitely go back on our next trip.

It sure doesn’t look like any Chowdah that I’m used to but I’m up to the task of giving it a go:)

The highlighted menu items sound fabulous! A bit out of the way but I would love to visit to try it someday!

I’ve just discovered this Y&B area on my last trip and loved it (Cape May Cafe). On future trips I intend to explore and try every square inch of all of the restaurants here and at the Boardwalk area. Thanks for the report.

They served the thick chowder in a carved bread bowl but upon request would make this lighter version! We love it!

Have have the lobster sliders for lunch and the lobster omelet for breakfast
We visit at least once each trip!

This place is amazing. I had the hand rolled tortellini last time I was there and it was so light and so delicious! It’s never been a problem getting in, either, which is great given the reservation requirements that are sweeping the world.

We stayed at the Beach Club in November and had one of the best meals ever at the Captain’s Grille. The Cabernet Braised Shory Ribs were recimmended by our waitress and were delicious! I’d love to have the recipe!
