Review: New Cinnamon, Caramelized Apple & Crumble Crunch Ice Cream at L’Artisan des Glaces

So, here we are on our second trip to L’Artisan des Glaces in Epcot’s France Pavilion in one week!

You may have seen our review of the new Vanilla Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich, but we just had to make it back right away to taste their brand new flavor. Take a deep breath, ‘cuz this one is a mouthful:  Cinnamon, Caramelized Apple & Crumble Crunch Ice Cream.

And it’s good to be back so soon for another visit, because let’s face it – if there’s a list of places at Disney World that merit more than one trip during your vacation, L’Artisan des Glaces deserves to be on it.

That case full of 16 homemade flavors of ice cream and sorbet just doesn’t disappoint.

There are so many words in the name “Cinnamon, Caramelized Apple & Crumble Crunch,” it barely fits on the menu!

Fortunately, the Cast Member knew exactly what I was going for when I said, “May I have one scoop in a cup of the… um, Caramel, Cinnamon… uhh, Crumble … stuff? Please?”

Smooth. As. Silk. ;)

So, with that little tongue-twister out of the way, it was time to give it a try.

The name, of course, is a full description of a very full-flavored ice cream. You can immediately see the generous amount of cinnamon spice throughout the scoop.

The amount of caramelized apple pieces is terrific – they could easily overwhelm the texture, but they’re interspersed just enough throughout.

But my favorite element was the crumble crunch. I don’t know if this was the intention, but to me the crumble pieces tasted exactly like buttery pie crust, making the whole thing taste just like apple pie a la mode… but mostly “mode.” ;)

Crumble Crunch!

Okay, so I’m pretty sure “mode” doesn’t mean “ice cream,” but you get my point. It’s delicious. In fact, I won’t hesitate to say it’s my new favorite flavor at L’artisan. And that’s saying something.

I hope Cinnamon, Caramelized Apple & Crumble Crunch stays on the menu all year round, but it would be particularly fun to enjoy it during the Fall or holiday season. After all, it’s custom-made for it: all the flavors of hot apple pie goodness in a rich, creamy ice cream that’s cool enough to enjoy in Florida’s warmer temps.

Plus, that would give me more time to get the name right :) !

Mmmmm, this sounds like everything I love!! Any thoughts on how it would be as a martini? Or would the booze ruin it?

  2. Essie says

I know when I get back there next year, it’s gonna be hard to choose. BTW, I love the Mickey heads they put on the top of the ice cream pans.

  3. Nicole says

Love the picture of the display case with all the flavors – does it look like that when it first opens? We went in the fall & I don’t remember all the Mickey heads, but I could have been distracted by the ice cream martini I was about to devour!

  4. Chris UK says

Has anyone tried the coffee ice cream? I’m obsessed with coffee flavoured desserts. Best one I had at WDW so far is the house-made cappuccino ice cream at Portobello, which turned my teeth charcoal grey whilst I was eating it! But my goodness you get a lot in the cup there! Too much! L’Artisan des Glaces wasn’t open on my last visit (October 2012) so I’m very excited to experience it on my next visit (October 2014), but there’s always soooooo much good stuff with Food and Wine going on!! Arrgghh I need a bigger belly!

Just wanted to compliment you on ALL of your food photos ~ they are spectacular! I don’t even like ice cream that much, but looking at these pics makes me want some now!

Loved your guest spot on the WDW Today podcast!! I’m really missing the DFB Podcast. Mini French lesson…Les Halles is pronounced like Al (think of Big Al from Country Bears): “Lays Al”. Cheers! :)

This makes me want to start planning a trip down in case this flavour goes away. Cinnamon is, for some reason, an excellent companion to exquisitely good, smooth ice cream. Jiko had a dessert for a while that included cinnamon ice cream and it may have been the peak dessert eating experience of my life.

    Cheers, Wendy

I read this review Saturday and headed over for a scoop that same night. It was really delicious–smooth, creamy and flavorful. I have to agree about the “crumbs”–just like pie crust.

  9. Sarah says

That’s sounds delicious. It sounds like a Ben and Jerry’s flavour that you used to make in the UK called ‘ Oh My, Apple Pie’.
