Happy 2016!! What better way to celebrate than with a bunch of rum in a pineapple!?
The Lapu Lapu may not rank quite as high on the list as the Jumbo Turkey Leg or Dole Whip as far as iconic Disney World indulgences go. Nope — this gem is for the kids in the know, and once YOU know about it, you may just want to put it #OnTheList!
We recently visited Tambu Lounge in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to celebrate its single-serve portion of ‘Ohana Bread Pudding. And now we’re already back to sing the praises of the Lapu Lapu.
The Lapu Lapu isn’t the only specialty beverage you’ll find at Tambu Lounge. The Backscratcher, Tropical Macaw, and Island Sunset are all perfectly good tropical drinks unique to Tambu Lounge and befitting their Polynesian setting. However, the Lapu Lapu is the only drink served at Tambu Lounge — and, indeed, ALL of Disney World — IN A PINEAPPLE.
A blend of Myer’s Original Dark Rum and tropical fruit juices fill the hollow pineapple shell, and it’s all topped off with… wait for it… MORE RUM! Bacardi 151 Rum, to be precise.
Rum-topped-rum in a pineapple. Sometimes you’ll even get it with one of those teeny-tiny umbrellas and a couple of cherries for good measure. If this doesn’t scream, “VACATION”… well, then I don’t know what does.
It does it so well, in fact, that the Lapu Lapu is an integral part of my First Day Tradition for my Disney World vacations.
Oh! And if a member of your group isn’t of rum-topped-rum age yet, or if alcohol isn’t your thing right now, you can ask for a just-juice version. ‘Cuz that’s the thing with the Lapu Lapu… once other people lay their eyes on it, they get jelly and want one of their very own. Be sure to tell them to put it #OnTheList!

Kelli says
In my role of keeping the world safe, I must ask, will they make it a virgin?
Mike says
If it’s a “virgin” then it’s just juice. This is a great drink I make at home. Had a bartender give me a recipe. Do NOT drink before a run.
LizC says
Will they let you take a Lapu Lapu (pineapple and all) back to our room? My husband and I would love to have this as our first night drink on the patio or balcony, after the kids fall asleep. We are staying in the Polynesian.
Leann says
You can also have it at dinner at O’hana. It gave the fireworks extra sparkle, I swear!
Sarah says
A Lapu Lapu is always a must on our vacation. The morning of MK day we drive over to the TTC, but instead of jumping on a boat or monorail, we walk over to the Polynesian, and start the day with some Tonga Toast. Then we take the monorail from there over to MK and at the end of our day, we monorail back to the Poly for a Lapu Lapu. It always makes a great day!
Eliza says
can you get this drink non-alcoholic? is there any where to drink coconut water from an actual coconut in disney? lol
Julie says
Had Lapu Lapu. Awesomem…..Ohana dinner fabulous
Dianna says
With the Polynesian closed, where can you get a Lapu Lapu & famous bread pudding?
DFB Sarah says
Dianna, the Poly is open for DVC villas, so you can get the Lapu Lapu and the bread pudding at Tambu Lounge. The bread pudding may also be available at Kona Cafe.
