You may already be familiar with Happily Ever After in Magic Kingdom and Rivers of Light in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
But are you familiar with Epcot Forever or the Wonderful World of Animation?
If not, that’s because these are upcoming shows that are yet to debut. But Blooloop has posted an article that reveals some more details on these and other previously announced shows and spectaculars coming to enhance our evenings in Walt Disney World! Let’s take a look at what Blooloop learned from Disney and shared in their article.
Wonderful World of Animation
The Wonderful World of Animation will debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as part of the park’s 30th Anniversary Celebration on May 1, 2019.
The new 12-minute projection and laser show will also feature fireworks accents and a new soundtrack, while the “story takes viewers on a panoramic visual journey through more than 90 years of Disney animation” from both Walt Disney Animation and Pixar Animation Studios. Featured films will include Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cars, Hercules, Emperor’s New Groove, Zootopia, and Wreck-It Ralph among many others. In fact, it will “include nods to every feature animated film ever released by Disney and Pixar,” according to Ray Coble with Disney Parks Live Entertainment.
Of special note in the article is that this new production will not replace Disney Movie Magic or Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular. All three may play in one evening, depending on park hours.
Epcot Forever
It’s been previously revealed that Epcot will have two new nighttime spectaculars in the near future after the end of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth late this summer. Epcot Forever will be the interim production until 2020 brings an as-yet-unnamed spectacular to the park. Epcot Forever will celebrate the history of Epcot with beloved tunes even from the park’s opening.
The Blooloop article revealed that “the show will include special effects-enabled kites capable of airborne choreography – a first for an Epcot nighttime entertainment show. The illuminated kites will be controlled by two-man teams aboard Jet Ski-like personal watercraft. The show will employ eight of the Jet Skis, with a driver and kite performer aboard each personal watercraft. The movement of the Jet Skis will also create the wind required to keep the kites aloft.”
The as-yet-unnamed 2020 spectacular is also in progress.
In the article, Shawn Slater with Disney Parks Live Entertainment is quoted: “This next show that we’re bringing on as part of this overall transformation at Epcot that’s going on is really on a massive scale like we’ve never done… Just immense floating set pieces, fireworks, LED panels that are huge, other special effects and lasers. The big, floating set pieces will also have fountains on board that do different choreographed things. It’s amazing.”
Awakenings: Lion King
The Tree of Life Awakenings at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will receive a Simba-makeover with Awakenings: Lion King this summer as well.
An original musical score will accompany the new projections highlighting Simba’s journey on the Tree of Life. This, of course, is in conjunction with the park’s 25th Anniversary celebration of The Lion King.
The new four-minute projection show will kick off on Memorial Day Weekend and run through September 30th.
