Epcot Food and Wine Festival Center and More Merchandise

It’s a rainy day here at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival, so what better thing to do than shopping? We stopped at the Festival Center to see what we could find! Please excuse the smartphone pics — the rain was coming down pretty hard and I didn’t want to risk the DSLR!

Over at Tasteful Chapters, you’ll find the cookbooks from this year’s Festival presenters as well as plenty of other interesting food and beverage books. There are also some nice comfy couches and chairs for relaxing.

The Intermissions Cafe is the perfect place to grab a bite between seminars!

Over at the Festival Center merchandise area, we found some great new items.

Back again this year are bags made out of recycled banners from last year’s Food and Wine Festival! This year there are small make-up bags and large messenger bags for sale.

These always go super quick, so make sure to get them now! (The cast member told me that they’re selling through them rapidly this year as well.)

Today, let’s take an in-depth look at Portugal and Scandinavia!

Portugal

A brand new booth this year, Portugal brings some very different tastes to the Festival. We started out with the calamari salad with fennel, olive oil, and smoked paprika. The flavor here mostly comes from the fennel and olive oil, but the dish is unlike any other at the Festival!

The Pastel de Nata in Portugal is a fun and unique dessert. Basically a custard in a crust, the simple, light flavors tasted like vanilla to me! Definitely worth a try.

The Linguica Sausage with onions, peppers, and olives (mostly olives…) was outstanding. A super-spicy sausage accented with delicious flavors from the vegetables made for a hearty and savory dish. This was my [Read more…]

Today — we’re off to two brand new World Showcase booths: Hawaii and the Caribbean!

Hawaii

Hawaii delights with a delicious pork slider this year — the added sweet and sour Dole pineapple chutney and spicy mayonnaise add even more layers of flavor.

I really liked this one, and was surprised to see pineapple baked into the roll!!

Kalua Pork Slider with Sweet and Sour Dole Pineapple Chutney and Spicy Mayonnaise -- $3.00

The Tuna Poke with Seaweed Salad is less “up my alley” than the pork slider, but it was very fresh and high-quality. I’ve been hearing raves from seafood lovers!

Tuna Poke with Seaweed Salad and Lotus Root Chips -- $3.75

The Mai Tai in Hawaii was lovely!! This is a must-buy for those [Read more…]

Mexico
Mexico is a true winner this year. The booth brought out a favorite from the La Hacienda de San Angel restaurant — shrimp tacos!

Crispy Shrimp Taco -- $3.75

The rib-eye tacos were MY favorite, though. (Are you surprised? I’m pretty sure my middle name is rib-eye at this point.) Flavorful and tasty!

5 Things I’m Looking Forward To at the Epcot Food & Wine Festival

Welcome to the opening day of the 2011 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival!

If you’ve been following along, you know that we already have World Showcase booth menus and prices (and tons of brand new food photos!), special event information, low-cost event information, details about visiting chefs, Eat to the Beat concert specs, breaking news, and more, here on our 2011 Epcot Food and Wine Festival Overview Page!

I’m excited to continue to bring you coverage of the Festival; but today, I wanted to give you a little peek at what I’m looking forward to over the next 45 days…

New Food! New Drinks!

While Disney often brings back old favorites to the Food & Wine Festival, they also like to surprise us with new indulgences! A few of our favorite new food items at the Festival this year include:

Disney Launches Food & Wine Festival App

Bring your smartphones to the 2011 Epcot Food and Wine Festival! There’s a new Food and Wine App! Just scan the QR code (looks like Spaceship Earth!) found on any of the booth menus at the festival.

2011 Caribbean Menu -- see the QR Code at the upper right

This app will give menus and prices for each booth, the videos we highlighted here, and recipes. Find out what events are being offered and if the event that interests you is still available or sold out. Look for concert schedules, food locations, and social media sharing tools.

Of course, we just have to mention that the Disney Food Blog is STILL your resource for World Showcase booth food photos — these are not yet available on the Disney app as far as we can tell! ;-) We’ve updated our individual booth pages with this year’s menu photos and pricing, too!

We’ll see you at the Festival!

Tips from the Mini-Guide: World Showcase Booth Crawls

Because we want you to know everything you need to know about this year’s Food and Wine Festival, we’ve created the DFB Mini-Guide to the 2011 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival e-Book, a new guide that covers the 2011 Epcot Food and Wine Festival from…well…soup to nuts!

Included in the book are critical tools like the Daily Schedule of Events covering every single day of the 45-day festival, customized Food & Wine Festival Touring Strategies for your family, and a full list of World Showcase food booths and menus — along with photos of many of the food items you can purchase there!

World Showcase Booth Crawls

There’s much, much more included, and one of our favorite parts of the e-Book are our World Showcase Booth Crawls that we’ve invented!

Our booth crawls are the perfect enhancement to your itinerary. Choose between the Beer, Seafood, Continent, Classics, and Dessert Crawl. Or combine them for additional tasty touring!

In the Continent Crawl, you’ll sample a dish from each continent represented at the festival. Stops include Australia, Brazil, Caribbean Islands, China, Morocco, and France. It’s a culinary adventure!

More to Love

In addition to the Crawls, you’ll have over 125 pages of organized information to customize your Festival day.

The DFB Mini-Guide to the 2011 Epcot Food & Wine Festival includes even more bonus items including indexes of all the events, menu items, booths, chefs and more!

But don’t take our word for it! See an Orlando Sentinel review of the DFB Mini-Guide to the 2011 Epcot Food and Wine Festival e-Book here!

Purchase your DFB Mini-Guide to the 2011 Epcot Food & Wine Festival e-Book here! Use code “CHEF” for your $2 discount!

Epcot Food & Wine Festival Update: Cat Cora Event Canceled

It’s come to our attention that Iron Chef and Kouzzina Celebrity Chef Cat Cora will no longer be appearing at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival Kitchen Memories Event slated for October 28th, 2011.

We’ll watch for news of another celebrity chef taking over the kitchen during this 3-course lunch since the listing is now marked “To Be Determined.”

Disney should be contacting all guests with bookings; you can also call 407-WDW-DINE for options.

Also, we note that dates for Cat Cora’s Signature Dinners are no longer appearing on the official Food and Wine Festival calendar.

UPDATE: We’re hearing from readers that Chef Cora will be appearing at the signature dinners, but we haven’t found confirmation. If you have updates, please let us know.

We wish Chef Cora well. Canceling something like this at the last minute is usually not due to positive news eh? :-(

Thanks to my good friend Andrew Serio for the heads up on this news.
