Fun Find: Vintage Attraction Poster Mugs

When the Marketplace Co-op opened up in Downtown Disney’s Marketplace last year, it was clear that Disney had taken steps to create some kitchen and home merchandise that really spoke to Disney fans through the Disney Centerpiece shop, with much of it focused on vintage designs from the earliest days of Disneyland and Disney World.

Things only continued to get better when Memento Mori — the first shop dedicated entirely to the Haunted Mansion — opened later in the year.

The thing is, so much great stuff came out last year, that it was almost hard to take it all in! So I don’t think I realized how cool these vintage attraction poster mugs are until I got to check them out in more detail on my most recent Disney World trip. These days, you can also find them in other places outside of the Co-op, like Magic Kingdom’s Confectionery.

Each mug has four attraction posters on it, so you’re looking at different views of the same four mugs in the pictures below (just click on any of the images to enlarge).

The first blue mug on the left features absolute favorites and classics across the board, from Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, as well as the Monorail System.

Review: Cheeseburger Spring Rolls at Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland Egg Roll Wagon

I’ve strolled past the Adventureland Egg Roll Wagon lots of times.

Maybe you have, too… and possibly without even knowing it. Adventureland hosts a few carts featuring the regulars like ice cream bars, popcorn, and plenty of cold drinks for tropical, Adventureland-type days. It also has the one responsible for the irresistible fragrance of cinnamon-glazed almonds on your way to Pirates of the Caribbean. But the Egg Roll Wagon stands alone in its little area and also stands alone in its food offerings, being the only grab-and-walk egg roll location in Magic Kingdom.

You pass the little cart after the entrance to the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse (give a shout if you still love it!).

And you can see it to your left when facing the Magic Carpets of Aladdin — it’s the little red cart with the cool overhang.

By the way… a word of warning: if you ever find yourself in line for an egg roll, watch out for this guy.

He spits. How I manage to forget that every single time I’m in his general vicinity, I’ll never know.

Anyway, back to the Wagon! Here it is on a slightly less busy day ;).

But on the particular day of my recent visit, I was in Adventureland checking out the new homes for both Sunshine Tree Terrace and Aloha Isle. That’s when I noticed a little sign at the Egg Roll Wagon which made me do a double-take. You see, the Egg Roll Wagon typically offers fairly standard egg roll choices; you know, like pork and vegetable.

But there was a brand new item available for testing, which means the outcome can be anything from deciding not to feature them at all, to offering them on peak days (such as the day I was there), to adding them to the regular menu.

So, what is the test item in question (umm, if you didn’t see it in this post’s title ;)? Cheeseburger Spring Rolls!

News! Aloha Isle and Sunshine Tree Terrace Switch Places in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

Call it a little Disney Magic!

STT Aloha Isle Collage DFB

Mind blown? Yeah, mine too. You’re not seeing things…two of Magic Kingdom’s most beloved snack stops have switched places!

We’ve heard rumors, and now it seems to be happening: major changes are underway in Adventureland.

We’re still awaiting confirmation that a brand new restaurant might be coming to the area, but in the meantime, Aloha Isle and Sunshine Tree Terrace have swapped real estate.

And we have lots of brand new pictures of the change as it’s happening right now!

Here’s FIRST LOOK at the brand new Aloha Isle Sign! Clearly, the Dole sponsorship is still firmly in place.

Rumor: Saying Goodbye to Magic Kingdom’s Aloha Isle?

UPDATE: It may not be “Aloha” for Aloha Isle after all… It’s possible that Aloha Isle and Sunshine Tree Terrace may be switching locations soon. We’ll keep you posted as this story progresses!

It may be that the days of lining up at Magic Kingdom’s Aloha Isle for a Dole Whip are coming to an end…

Recently, Aloha Isle’s Adventureland neighbor, Sunshine Tree Terrace, added Aloha’s signature snack to their menu. Adding to its own specialty treat — the Citrus Swirl — now Dole Whip can be purchased at Sunshine Tree Terrace as well. Options currently include the flavors of Pineapple, Vanilla, or a Swirl of both served in your choice of cone, cup, or in Float form.

So, why the change? It seems Aloha Isle may be closing to make way for a new restaurant in Adventureland, and Sunshine Tree Terrace will become the sole spot to find Dole Whip at Magic Kingdom.

So, what’s on tap for this possible new location? Rumor has it a Tiana-themed restaurant may be in the works.

Is Aloha Isle coming to an end?

Again, we want to stress that this is currently filed solidly under “rumor” status, but [Read more…]

Spotted! Venomade at Disneyland’s Bengal Barbecue

Let’s say you’re stopping by Disneyland’s Bengal Barbecue to tame your craving for a Jungle Skewer, or maybe even a Tiger Tail.

News! Disney Food Merchandise Coming to Downtown Disney’s Marketplace Co-op

As Downtown Disney begins its transformation in earnest to Disney Springs, there are already oodles of changes taking place. Just last week, Disney announced the closing date for Pollo Campero and NYC Babycakes in the Marketplace for March 19th.

But we’re not just saying goodbye to things, thankfully. There are already some “hellos” on the way in the not-too-distant future! Specifically, the Marketplace Co-op — formerly Team Mickey — will open its doors in just a couple months (no official opening date yet!).

Disney recently provided a glimpse at some of merchandise that will make it’s debut at this location. According to Disney, the Marketplace Co-op will feature six boutiques and “serve as a testing space” for new retail shops and products. I gotta say, the first glimpse of some of the dining and kitchen merchandise coming to the Disney Centerpiece boutique has already passed the test with me…

I love the Dole Whip air fresheners that showed up at Disney World several months ago, but now it looks like we’ll be able to bring home 3-D versions of this treasured treat in a miniature ceramic! How cute would that be on a desk or shelf? (You’ll notice right next to the Dole Whips is also a ceramic Orange Bird :) .)

You know the last thing I need in my home? Another glass. Still… you know what I totally need? Those colorful Adventureland glasses… or perhaps the Aloha Isle hurricanes! What?!??!?!?!?!

Every time I look at this picture I notice something new. For instance, our friend, the Orange Bird, is perched on top of an Adventureland napkin or placemat.

I love the rest of the line inspired by Adventureland, and those nods to some of the details – and our favorite birds! – found in Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. All the plates you see in these images, by the way, are [Read more…]

Snack Series: Citrus Swirl at Magic Kingdom’s Sunshine Tree Terrace

There’s tons of awesomeness in every corner of Walt Disney World, but the Magic Kingdom is where the Florida magic got its start! And we’re headed there today!

As much as I’m loving all the new spots in New Fantasyland, it’s still a joy to come back to old favorites like Sunshine Tree Terrace.

Nestled off the beaten path in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland, this spot is home to some great menu items, like the Lemonade with Wild Berry Foam and the Pina Colada Slush.

But its real claim to fame is the snack of legendary proportions that’s recently been restored to its former glory — the Citrus Swirl! And even though we’ve talked about it before…it’s about time to revisit this classic!

Atmosphere

For all the talk about Disney history, this is the real deal. Sunshine Tree Terrace has been a staple of Magic Kingdom since the very first day the park was opened.

Originally, the spot served as a showcase for one of Adventureland’s biggest sponsors, Florida Citrus Growers (FCG). This was a great spot to get a refreshing glass of orange juice and other treats featuring the flavors of Florida.

Florida Citrus Growers’ Orange Bird

Sunshine Tree Terrace was also the home of the Orange Bird. This little guy, created by Disney, became the mascot for FCG and was used in promotions, both inside and outside the park. And guests young and old were delighted to pose for pics with the Orange Bird at a character meet and greet!

Due to a very vocal Disney fan base, the Orange Bird, who had disappeared from this spot in the mid-80s, has now come home to roost once again!

Guest Review: Tortuga Tavern in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

Ahoy me hearties! Let’s welcome back Julie B. with a review of Tortuga Tavern in the Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland. Isn’t it fun when you find this place open?! And we love that Julie found the place empty. Wow.

If you’re like me, you can never get enough pirates! You love the ride, the movies, and the hilarious, charming Jack Sparrow (pardon me… Captain Jack Sparrow). But you may not know you can eat like a pirate too!

Lunch at Bengal Barbecue

When I was planning my recent Disneyland trip, there were two counter service restaurants I knew we couldn’t miss — French Market and Bengal Barbecue. Bengal is a tiny counter-service spot — no bigger than a booth or a kiosk really — tucked into all the action of Adventureland. Located across the way from Jungle Cruise and Indiana Jones, you get the idea that you’re supposed to sense a little danger around here…

Pretty menacing tiger, eh? Once you get past the fear, just head under the little thatched roof and get in line. Speaking of lines, I can almost assure you there will be one. Bengal Barbecue is one of the most popular counter service spots in Disneyland, both for its [Read more…]

Dole Whips, Dole Whips, Everywhere…

Ladies and gentlemen, I am thrilled to announce that I have now (I think!) ordered Dole Whips or Dole Whip Floats at every possible Disney parks location, and I am now able to write the mother of all Dole Whip blog posts! ;-) For a primer on Dole Whips, check out this original Dole Whip post, and this post about where to get Dole Whips outside of Disney’s gates.

Now, let’s take a tour and see how Disney’s locations compare:

Aloha Isle: Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

When in Disney World, this spot is synonymous with Dole Whips. There’s actually not a whole lot more you can get here, so be ready for some non-dairy cold stuff just about any way you slice it!
