Review: Village Haus in Disneyland

We’re taking in a meal at a classic stop in Disneyland — The Village Haus!

Village Haus Sign

I don’t get to this corner of Disneyland nearly as much as I should. It’s waaaaaaaaay in the back corner — head into Fantasyland and hang a left.

But since a very similar restaurant exists in Walt Disney World — Pinocchio Village Haus in Fantasyland — I usually find myself skipping THIS Village Haus in lieu of one of my favorite spots, like Cafe Orleans. [Read more…]

Guest Review: Dinner at Epcot’s Biergarten at the Germany Pavilion

A favorite place to dine at Walt Disney World is Epcot’s World Showcase.

With unique restaurants featuring tastes from around the globe, Epcot offers a smorgasbord of dining locations. Today, guest author Rebecca Elliott shares her dinner experience at the Biergarten located in the Germany pavilion. Prost!

Epcot is designed to replicate a permanent World’s Fair with pavilions dedicated to innovation and international culture.

Future World highlights technology while the World Showcase, on the other side of World Showcase Lagoon, celebrates international culture.

The Charming Biergarten Entry Way

The Charming Biergarten Entry Way

There are 11 pavilions in the World Showcase, each themed and dedicated to a specific country. The décor can be old fashioned and kitschy, but the cast members, many of whom travel from their home countries to work in the World Showcase, give it an air of authenticity.

The restaurants are by far the main attraction. Many pavilions have two or more restaurants that serve food inspired by their representative countries. I say “inspired” because the food is not necessarily authentic, but it has elements of authentic dishes and is served in a fun atmosphere with incredible theming.

Instead of dining at our usual spot (Chefs de France in the France pavilion), my family and I decided to try something completely new on our most recent visit. This is how we found ourselves at Biergarten in the Germany pavilion.

Atmosphere

Biergarten is located in the back of the Germany pavilion, which is the fourth pavilion in if you enter the World Showcase from Future World and start from the left. Disney’s original plan was to feature a boat ride here, similar to the one at the Norway pavilion, but these plans fell through. The main entrance of the boat ride is now the dining area for Biergarten.

The setting for Biergarten is a quaint Bavarian village celebrating Oktoberfest. You are seated in the town square at communal tables, ready to enjoy traditional German music and food. It is dusk (no matter what time of day you eat), and the atmosphere is celebratory.

Guest Review: Biergarten in Epcot’s Germany Pavilion

A visit to Walt Disney World includes dining at some unique restaurants! In Epcot’s Germany pavilion, the Biergarten is more than a place to eat; it’s also an entertaining venue! Welcome back guest author Rebecca Dolan with a fun review.

Everyone has a restaurant or two that, for them, make a trip to Disney World complete. For me, that’s Biergarten.

This all-you-can-eat smorgasbord in Epcot’s Germany Pavilion is one of the few restaurants I insist on visiting nearly every time I’m in Orlando. Like Rose and Crown, Biergarten was one of those places my mom made me eat as a kid and I hated it. But, now it’s one of the few places where I truly relish getting my meat and potatoes on. And, if you’re a meat and carbs kind of a guy/gal, then this is definitely the place for you!

The back of the Germany Pavilion.

Atmosphere

The Biergarten can be found at the back of the Germany Pavilion, under the big bell. The hostess stand is located outside, under the stone arch to the left.

They’re a bit particular about how things are run here, and you won’t be allowed inside the restaurant until your name is called and your party is complete.

Once you’re party is called, you’ll be shown in through these doors.

Walking inside is actually like being transported back outside, as the cavernous restaurant is designed to look like an Oktoberfest celebration being held in a town square.

A semicircle of Bavarian-style buildings, draped with flags of various German locales, arches around a central stage, while a full moon oversees the action.

Inside the courtyard.

At least once during your seating, the stage will come alive with the sounds of a lederhosen-clad band that plays everything from alpine horns to polka.

The band takes the stage. Make sure to bring your dancing shoes.

Mexico

This crowd favorite had some big menu changes in 2011 – and came out a winner! Many of the items from last year are back for 2012, and there are a couple of nice additions that I loved. Let’s take a look!

With the popularity of Mexico’s La Cava del Tequila, we’re seeing the first introduction of tequila shots at the Food and Wine Festival (score!).

And while the Tequila Flight, featuring Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo Tequilas is a bit pricey, it’s a great presentation and a fun way to compare different tequilas alongside terrific eats! This was a winner for me!

Tequila Flight: Tequila Blanco, Reposado and Anejo

I absolutely loved the ribeye taco last year, and this year’s Taco de Filete, featuring beef tenderloin and a medium-spicy Cascabel Pepper Sauce does not disappoint. The wilted scallion provides a nice punch of color and taste as well.

The Crispy Shrimp Taco, back again from La Hacienda de San Angel restaurant, was a clear winner in 2011. It continues to [Read more…]

Epcot Food and Wine Festival Chefs Behind the Scenes…

Walt Disney World is gearing up for this year’s Epcot Food and Wine Festival beginning September 28 and running through November 12, 2012.

Let’s take a look at the fun ways that the Disney chefs are preparing courtesy of the Disney Parks Blog.

We’re definitely counting down to the 2012 Epcot Food and Wine Festival here at DFB! And one of the most anticipated details of the Festival every year are the World Showcase Marketplace Booth menus.

While I love to try all the new menu items, I always enjoy welcoming back old favorites as well; and we work very hard to make sure you know what to expect when you start traversing those kiosks. Check out the full menus as well as some great food photos from the booths this year, here!

German Marketplace at Epcot's Food and Wine Festival

I thought we could have a look in on the uber-popular Germany Booth. They’re changing up the menu very slightly this year with new twists on old menu items. A Roast Bratwurst will be in the Pretzel Roll this year, and I can’t wait to try the new Schinken Nudel (Pasta Gratin with Ham and Cheese) — twist on the long-standing schnitzel!

But today, we are focusing on one of the most popular desserts at the festival — [Read more…]
