Review: Apple Turnover and White Chocolate Eclair at Epcot’s France

Just when you think you’ve eaten everything there is to eat at Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie in France’s Epcot Pavilion…you find a couple more pastries hiding out in the case. It’s a tough life. ;-D

This bakery and pastry shop in Epcot’s France is your one stop for everything for a petite dejeuner in the morning. And their soups, sandwiches, quiches, and cheese plates make for a delicious light meal anytime of the day.

But their decadent pastries are still my favorite things to enjoy here. Today, we try two that are new to us — Chaussons aux Pommes and the Vanilla White Chocolate Éclair.

Chaussons aux Pommes

There’s tons to choose from here, but I couldn’t believe I hadn’t tried the updated version of the Apple Tart. During a recent Orlando rainstorm (deluge…it was a deluge), I took refuge at Les Halles with everyone else and made lemonade out of those lemons!

No lie — I’ve passed over the Chaussons aux Pommes, or Apple Turnover, at Les Halles time and again for flashier stuff and old favorites (Oh, Frangipane). But it was time to try one of these sweet little apple empanadas.  [Read more…]

Disney Dining Tip: Fruity Snacks in the Disney Parks

Over the past few years, Disney has introduced some great fruity options in the parks. Some super healthy…and some not so much. But even when our selection isn’t necessarily a low-calorie treat, the added fruit at least makes us feel less guilty. ;-)

So for those looking to make their five servings a day, let’s take a look at a few of those sweet treats!

Fresh Fruit at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Fruit Snacks

I love to reach for a piece of fresh fruit, especially on a hot Florida day, and especially for breakfast. And these days you’ll find some really appetizing (as opposed to a few years ago) fresh-cut and whole fruits in each park. (I usually find the best stuff in Disneyland, but Disney World’s selection has gotten better and better.)

If you find yourself in between a Dole Whip and Mickey Ice Cream Bar at the Magic Kingdom, practicing some moderation with fruit from Liberty Square Market is a guilt-free option.

One of our favorite fresh fruit menu items is found at the Animal Kingdom’s Bradley Falls and Tamu Tamu Refreshments. Doesn’t this fruit salad (pineapple, mango, grapes, blueberries, kiwi, and lychee) look amazing?!

Breakfast at the Bakery…the Main Street Bakery

As you know, I think that anything cinnamon roll related in Disney parks and resorts is a breakfast of champions. So when I was headed to the Magic Kingdom to meet a friend at the Main Street Bakery for breakfast recently, I decided I’d get a cinnamon roll.

When I arrived a bit early, I took my time scoping out the goodies available, which included these beauties:

Main Street Bakery Pastries

…and realized that I haven’t really done a review of the Bakery, per say. It was part of the bakery throw down (speaking of, head over to that post to see lots of pics of atmosphere at the Bakery), of course, but as for really digging into the food options there, it’s been a while! So I took advantage of the situation.

I suppose it should have been a warning when the cast member at the check-out counter started pulling out the take-out containers, but when I got over to my table, I had this:

I got some pretty weird looks from folks, but I’m pretty used to that by now. ;-) And don’t worry, I took the food I didn’t eat back to the hotel room. And I subsequently found out that a cinnamon roll from the Bakery tastes surprisingly good even [Read more…]

Fresh Look at Disney World: A Disney Dining Trip Report

Mark Weaver and his family had never been to Disney World together before their March 2010 trip, and that was Mark’s first time back to the “World” in 10 years! As I’m sure you’re getting used to my “frequent visitor” perspective on these restaurants, I’m honored to share with you this dining trip report from a foodie who’s looking at WDW with fresh eyes. Thanks, Mark! (When Mark’s not dining in Disney World, you can find him contributing awesome news articles and features over at

Our dining experiences at WDW were amazing. Sadly we missed 2 of our ADRs (and went home early) thanks to everyone getting sick on the last 2 days of our trip; however, we still had a great time and ate a lot of great food. Here’s an overall review of where and what we ate!:

Disney’s Pop Century Food Court:
After we checked in, we headed here to get some food that didn’t come from the cooler in the back seat of our car (YAY!). Overall, it was pretty good. I had the Parmesan Chicken which was very well done. The chicken was fully cooked — very crunchy, and the pasta with alfredo sauce was pretty good as well. I was able to get extra sauce at no extra cost which went very well with the breadstick. Speaking of the breadstick, I was actually surprised that it was not just a plain breadstick. It was seasoned with herbs and matched well with the entire dish.
