Specialty Halloween Dishes Now Available in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure

Earlier this week we shared a few fun Disney Halloween Treats that had been popping up in the parks!

Today, we’ve got a few seasonal dishes that will be showing up at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks through November 4th! You’ll want to order these fun entrees and treats soon!

In the Disneyland park, Blue Bayou is serving a pan-roasted wild boar chop with a blood orange fruit reduction, accompanied by a tri-color layered potato stack and veggies.

Desserts include the Midnight Chocolate Tart Temptation, a sweet and salty treat with milk chocolate filling, caramel popcorn ice cream, olive oil, and Down Under flake salt.

Just around the corner, Café Orleans is featuring a Haunted Chicken dish. Try the pan-seared chicken breast dressed with chili cream sauce, served with purple garlic mash and sautéed carrots, before it vanishes into thin air.

Review: D23’s “Off the Map” Event with Dinner at Club 33

When I heard about D23’s Off the Map event, I made sure to be home when tickets went on sale. A visit to the Disneyland Dream Suite, touring Walt’s Apartment, a ride on the Lilly Belle, and a super surprise dinner at one of the resort’s most unique restaurants (hmmmm, wonder where that could be)? Sign. Me. Up. 

I sat down at my computer at about 9:50am, tickets would be available starting at 10:00am. I literally sat and refreshed for 10 minutes straight. Yes, I’m that nerdy.  It paid off, because at exactly 10:01 (according to my computer’s clock) I had two tickets in my shopping cart and was checking out, credit card in hand.  By the time I finished checking out, the event had sold out. I was surprised that they went so fast, but I then realized that it must be a very small and obviously sought after event.

NOTE: This review is long and has lots of pictures of awesome things. There’s a whole meal and a snack in the write-up (of course, this is the Disney Food Blog), but we couldn’t help including pics of the rest of the tour as well! I hope you enjoy!

Checking In

We checked in at 9:00am on a Tuesday morning and were put into groups. We soon met with our uber fabulous D23 guide, Jeffrey (you may know him as the Disney Geek)!

Guess Who???

This is where we learned that there were only 72 tickets sold for the event and that it sold out in 30 seconds. Wow, so lucky to have scored two!  The crowd was very mixed, the age range spanned from teen to senior and some people traveled from across the country to be here.  We had 11 people in our group; most were southern California Disneyland locals, others were from Las Vegas, and there was one all the way from Georgia (Hi Andy!).

Off the Map Check In

Our group was scheduled to go to Walt’s Apartment at 10:30, so we had a bit of time to kill. Disneyland had just opened at 10:00, so it was fun to watch the park “wake up” as the horse drawn carriages emerged, characters came running from backstage, and the Disneyland Band marched right in front of us.  We met our apartment tour guide outside of the Disneyland Fire Department promptly at 10:30.

Disneyland Dining Options for “One More Disney Day” Event

According to the DisneyParks Blog, Disneyland is serving up fun, a midnight snack, and special eats for the One More Disney Day event!

Disneyland Park is gearing up for One More Disney Day with the announcement of the “Midnight Snack” at Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue.

Stop in 11:45 p.m. – 12:45 a.m. on February 29 (to March 1st) for yummy treats, hot beverages, Disney character meet ‘n greets, live music by Denny Moynahan, and other surprises.

No need to RSVP. Guests will be admitted from 11:45 p.m. until capacity is reached. This event is extremely limited to approximately 200 guests. You’ll need park admission, and lining up for the event can be no earlier than 10 p.m.

News! Valentine’s Day Menus at Disneyland Resort

Disneyland Resort restaurants will be offering unique items and special menus to share with your loved one on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2012.

The Plaza Inn will feature a Strawberry Cream Puff ($4.99), and a Valentine’s Day sugar cookie topped with red, pink, and white sprinkles will be offered at Pacific Wharf ($2.99).

Steakhouse 55‘s dinner package will cost $55 (natch!). Enjoy Strawberry and goat Cheese Spinach Salad with Candied Pecans, Rosebud Champagne Sorbet, and a Surf & Turf entree of Filet and Scallops with Lobster Mashed Potatoes and Broccolini.

For dessert, dig into a Chocolate Raspberry Tart.

At Blue Bayou, savor Roasted Muscovy duck breast, apricot pine nut stuffing, grand Marnier orange sauce, and roasted parsnip potato puree for $33.99.

While you dine in this twilit restaurant, consider the Valentine’s special dessert — Caramelized pear galette, mascarpone frangelico foam, and espresso crème anglase for $7.99.

Toast your sweetheart at Wine Country Trattoria, Alfresco Bar, or the Cove Bar in Disney California Adventure with a romantic dessert package. For $25, you’ll get two glasses of Magicale (Disney sparkling wine), 4 chocolate covered strawberries, and a single rose.

Disneyland Resort Restaurants and Chefs Win Awards

Traveling to Disneyland soon? You’ll want to add these resort restaurants to your dining list! We give a foodie shout-out to the winners of the Southern California Restaurant Writers awards!!

With a 36 year history, the Southern California Restaurant Writers, Inc. selects winners from south Santa Barbara to the border of Mexico. With such a large region, it’s a testament to the food quality at Disneyland that so many awards were presented to Disneyland restaurants at the annual banquet Sunday night.

Disneyland’s Mint Julep Recipe

This post was promised in the Disney Food Blog July Newsletter, and I’m excited to finally be publishing it!

If you’ve ever been to Disneyland, you know all about the famous alcohol-free (natch!) Mint Julep that can be found at Blue Bayou, Cafe Orleans, and the French Market. This refreshing, mint-y, lime-y, ice-y treat is a love-it-or-hate-it kind of cult favorite, but no matter what, you’ve gotta at least try it!

Disneyland’s Blue Bayou

Ye come seekin’ adventure with salty ol’ pirates, eh? Sure you’ve come to the proper place. But keep a weather eye open mates, and hold on tight. With both hands, if you please.

Ah, yes. We’re headed to the Blue Bayou. All jazzy New Orleans Square on the outside and dreaded pirates on the inside, these are some of the most coveted tables in Disneyland.

Atmosphere

Coming in from the busy New Orleans Square Royal Street outside (those little winding alleyways make it seriously congested in NOS!), Blue Bayou is like a hushed hive of activity. From the lobby, you can only catch a glimpse of shadows scurrying everywhere underneath the Chinese lanterns of the restaurant. The rest looks like sheer blackness — pitch dark.

After giving your name to the reservations CM (hopefully you made an ADR — Blue Bayou is one of the only Disneyland restaurants for which a reservation is practically a necessity), take some time to peek around the lobby. Disney Food Post Round-Up: January 3, 2010

Eat hereWelcome to 2010! I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend. And I know a bunch of you are gearing up for January and February Disney trips, so get that laundry folded and in the suitcase, already!

Now, everyone’s posting some really fun things about Disney food in the past couple of weeks, so I can’t wait to share the latest with you.

First, however, I need to share some news — one of my favorite counter-service offerings, Animal Kingdom’s Picnic in the Park, will become a “seasonal” offering after January 2, 2010. “Seasonal” in Disney-speak can mean anything from open once a decade to open all the time except when it rains, so we’re not really sure what it means in this case.

Now, on to the Round-Up!

Samland’s Disney Adventures shares a fun imagineering detail about Tony’s Town Square, which includes information about Le Chapeau next door, Walt Disney, Lillian Disney, and a puppy… .

The Disney Blog has an awesome story about a giant Wall-e made of donated food cans, which will eventually benefit local food banks.

Cake Wrecks reminds us that even though a lot of us are getting fatter, our character cakes are getting fatter, too!
