Guest Review: Kona Cafe Breakfast

Aloha! Let’s travel with Bill Iadonisi to the South Seas at Disney’s Polynesian Resort where we start our day in the Kona Cafe. Take it away, Bill!

As many times a month as we dine here at Walt Disney World, we are still astounded by the culinary choices offered. Where else can you sample the cuisines of eleven different countries, chow down on home country barbecue at a hoe-down show, savor the finest steaks and chops, or just sit down at a counter-service restaurant and enjoy simple fare? Nowhere but at the World!

And all diets and concerns are covered. Allergies, vegan, or just plain picky eaters can have their way at any of the eateries here. But few restaurants can cover the three dining fronts, i.e.… Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, with aplomb as well as the Kona Café at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. The restaurant has much going for it… convenient location, wonderful atmosphere, fine food and good value for your money. So today’s review is on the breakfast front!

I have found that even if the fare is just “OK,” service and atmosphere can still save the meal. In fact even the best food just doesn’t cut it in a noisy, crowded dining room, especially if the décor is bland or just too loud.

Guest Review: Breakfast at Pollo Campero

Thanks again to our roving reporter, Sarah Holodick, we get to find out all about breakfast at one of Disney World’s newest dining locations! Chorizo and cheese… I’m getting hungry!

Over the holiday weekend, I took the opportunity to try out Pollo Campero‘s breakfast menu. When I arrived Saturday at 8:30 am, the building was a ghost town. I only saw one other family dining in the entire restaurant.

Immediately, I was greeted with a very rehearsed spiel by a manager mentioning the various options under the roof, including Babycakes NYC (which was still closed at this early hour).

Review: Cinderella’s Royal Table Breakfast

Lords and Ladies of the Kingdom, we welcome you to…Cinderella Castle!!!

Admittedly, I couldn’t wait to go back to the castle — in the middle of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom — to dine. I’d never had breakfast here (not since I was a small fry, at least), and I was downright giddy! I don’t care how old you are, it’s just plain rad to go inside the castle where nobody else (unless they have a reservation, too, of course) gets to go. Seriously. Rad.

So I made the reservation the minute our 180-day Advanced Dining Reservation Window opened up (yep — this is one of the toughest reservations to get, so book early), gave them my credit card number (need to lock this one in with a card number — call in advance to cancel, or you’ll be charged), and started counting down the days…


There are several magical things that happen when you book an early breakfast reservation at Cinderella’s Royal Table:

  1. You get into the Magic Kingdom early. That’s right. Book your reservation for 8:00am on a day when the park doesn’t open until 9 and you get the wonderful experience of entering the park before anybody else and walking down an empty Main Street USA. You feel like a VIP. THEN, when you’re finished with your meal, you’ve already bypassed the huge crowds that gather at the entrance turnstyles at opening time, and you get first crack at Fantasyland. Fresh Introduces New Signature Cocktail Menu

The Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort‘s mixology lab has come up with another new menu of delicious drinks.

This time, Fresh — located in the Dolphin section of the resort — unveils a colorful array of cocktails ranging from the classic Mimosa and Bloody Mary to the more extravagant Istanbul Coffee, Egyptian Honey Bourbon Tea, and Barcelona White Sangria. While the former selections are guest favorites, the latter options offer guests a taste of the restaurant’s signature Mediterranean flavors.

I have a new favorite breakfast.

These — four of them — were delivered to our room on a recent PR trip to the Waldorf Astoria Orlando. My husband and I just stared at them; we rarely eat pastry for breakfast, and there was no way we could down four of them. But there was warm cream cheese icing dripping off the rolls, so we had to at least split one.

Disney Food Post Round Up: September 5, 2010

Welcome to the Disney Food Post Round-Up! Our favorite piece of news this week is that the tarps have come down from around La Hacienda de San Angel in Epcot’s Mexico!

Carnation Cafe: The Best Breakfast in All the ‘Land

Fellow Disney food fans, I want you to close your eyes for a moment and picture the best Disney breakfast you’ve ever had. How did it smell? Taste? How did it make you feel?

Well, here’s my version of that incredible breakfast that you wish you could repeat over and over again…

Basic. Red and white, soda shop tables and chairs, umbrella’d outdoor seating, pretty much squashed between the buildings on either side.
