Photo Tour! Re-Imagined Restaurants and Lounges on the Disney Magic Cruise Ship!

Remember when we told you that the Disney Magic cruise ship was about to get a full makeover?? Well, today we have an awesome photo tour for you!!

The Re-Imagined Disney Magic

The Disney Magic – The original cruise ship of the Disney Cruise Line – first set sail in 1998. Fifteen years later, she has just launched again after a lengthy stay in dry-dock where she spent her time being “re-imagined.”

Re-imagining is more than simply being refurbished or refreshed. Some spaces around the ship were entirely redesigned while others were enhanced. She sure is a beauty!

Since the re-imagined areas are primarily public spaces, this, of course, means that some of the dining areas and adult lounges were re-imagined or refreshed as well! Though some spaces, already timeless, remained unchanged or just refreshed.

Let’s have a look inside this amazing vessel and see what’s new!

The biggest update to the dining scene on the Disney Magic is the addition of Carioca’s.

Coming Soon! New Dining Options and Nightlife on the Disney Magic Cruise Ship!

Fun news from the Walt Disney World Monstrous Summer event this week!

New dining and entertainment options are being introduced to the Disney Magic Cruise Ship during a dry dock refub, which will take place in Spain this Fall 2013! We’re super excited about a special surprise that we mention at the bottom of this post!

More Magic Coming to Disney Magic!

The Magic was launched in 1998 with the latest in technology and imagineering at the time. But since the Disney Dream and Fantasy have taken to the seas, Disney’s decided it’s time to do some upgrades on the oldest ship! Let’s take a look…

Re-Imagined Dining on the Disney Magic

We love that the dining and restaurants on the ship will get a refresher!

NEW! Carioca’s
The Brazilian-themed Carioca’s will replace Parrot Cay on the Magic, and will bring an energetic atmosphere reminiscent of Rio de Janiero.

Adding to the dining experience, the concept will change from day to night with vibrant colors. Savor the Latin-infused flavors from the menu during day time buffet meals and table-service dinners.

At night, windows will reveal “city” scapes and flickering lanterns will illuminate the room.

Animator’s Palate
The ever-popular Animator’s Palate will get a slight makeover bringing in new technology (larger, high-def flat screens). The “Drawn to the Magic” black-and-white-to-color show will continue throughout the meal, but new friends like Rapunzel from “Tangled” and Remy from “Ratatouille” will join the ranks of Disney characters represented.

Animator's Palate transformation!

The popular “animation magic” show from the Fantasy will be added here as well — where guests draw their own characters that come to life on the screens!

New! Cabanas
Many guests rely on the come-as-you-are Topsider Buffet on the Magic for casual eats during the day. During the Magic’s refurbishment, this restaurant will be upgraded and expanded into Cabanas! This casual spot will be treated with an Australian and Finding Nemo theme, similar to [Read more…]

Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship Menus

If you’re anticipating a cruise on the brand new Disney Fantasy soon, you’re in luck when it comes to food! Some of the Disney Fantasy menus for the table-service restaurants have already been revealed!! These are always subject to change, so we’re excited to see what might be added as the boat continues to sail!

Here are some fun sneak peeks at the menus — along with some photos of our favorites! Bon Appetit!

Animator’s Palate

Entrees on the Animator’s Palate Menu include dishes for landlubbers, seafood lovers, and vegetarians!

One popular dish is the Animator’s Trio of Veal. It’s a Grilled Tenderloin, pulled Shank, with Tortellacci Pasta. For seafood, the Grilled Pacific Black Cod, or White Shrimp Pennette Pasta, are great choices. Vegetarians can choose from Stir-fry Vegetables or Black Bean Chipotle Cakes.

Aboard the ship, go ahead and order one (or two ;-)) appetizers! The Black Truffle Pasta Purseittes are your must-order app. Trust me!

There are plenty of options on the Cabanas Menu to curb your hunger at sea aboard the Fantasy.

While options rotate, you may find Jerk Chicken Salad, Caribbean-style Conch Chowder, Fettuccine with [Read more…]

Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship Restaurants and Dining Options

We had a great time sailing on the Disney Dream and doing a thorough Dine Around in January 2011. During that sailing, DFB researched (um, okay, ate) our way through the bountiful offerings on this all-you-can-eat cruise.

Disney’s next cruise ship, the Fantasy, is set to sail its maiden voyage in March of 2012. The 2,500 passenger ship will be identical in size and layout to the Disney Dream, although the two will not be exactly the same. Let’s review the venues for food and beverages on the Fantasy!

Main Dining

On board the Disney Fantasy guests will have many options when it comes to dining. They can of course choose to follow the rotational dining schedule that is set before departure, or opt out on certain nights to enjoy restaurants like Cabanas, Palo, and Remy.

The main dining options on the Disney Fantasy will be similar to those offered on the Disney Dream; the main changes will include a new show that will be offered at Animator’s Palate, a entirely new them for the adults-only district on the ship, and design changes for some of the other restaurants.

Animator’s Palate
Animator’s Palate is one of the main dining experiences on all three existing Disney ships, and the Fantasy will be no exception. However on the Fantasy, guests will experience the all new “Animation Magic” show starring none other than Mickey Mouse.

Diners will be treated to a truly magical experience led by Sorcerer Mickey. Watch as the characters on the wall move from black and white to color, and experience the Beauty and the Beast classic “Be Our Guest” in a whole new [Read more…]

Review: Cabanas on the Disney Dream Cruise Ship

On the Disney Dream Cruise Ship, Disney Cruise Line’s newest vessel, Cabanas is the breezy buffet that’s accessible to guests all day long. Stop here for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack no matter what schedule you’re on!

Guests enter the restaurant through a striped canvas bedecked foyer — just like you’re entering your very own cabana!

You might even see a few of your favorite friends from Finding Nemo here! Check out these gorgeous mosaic tile murals that decorate the space. And watch out for these guys…

Guest Review: Special Diets Dining Aboard the Disney Dream

Join us in welcoming Cheryl Perlmutter with a review of dining aboard the Disney Dream with special diets.

Recently, I went on the Disney Dream as part of the WDW Radio Cruise group. As you may know from prior posts by my husband, Todd, when I dine out, I request vegan meals and I am also gluten intolerant. Before the cruise, I contacted my travel agency and Disney Special Services. I noted my allergies, dietary needs and made special requests.

Day 1

When I boarded the ship, I did forget to check in at D-Lounge to meet the restaurant manager, as my travel agent recommended. Instead, I headed to Enchanted Garden for my first meal. The server introduced me to the chef. I noted my dietary needs and inquired about dessert which I had specifically requested in my letter to special services. The chef said [Read more…]

Disney Dream Dining: Attention to Detail at Cabanas

You’d think I’d be used to Disney’s attention to detail by now, but every once in a while I’ll see piece of imagineering awesomeness and think to myself, “Well, heck. Will you look at that?!”

This morning, I was having breakfast at Cabanas, the Disney Dream cruise ship’s all-day dining area. While scurrying around to get my oatmeal and juice, a flash of color caught my eye. Mind you, I’d been to Cabanas many times at this point, but I’d never noticed this special addition…

Exclusive: First Look at Menus and Details from the Swan & Dolphin Food and Wine Classic

I recently had the incredible opportunity to speak with Anthony “Tony” Porcellini, the Director of Food and Beverage at the Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort and the brains behind the brand new annual Swan and Dolphin Food and Wine Classic!

Tony was kind enough to share with me a few more details on the upcoming event, including menus for the tasting booths, specifics on the seminars, and a few surprises for next year’s event! I also received fantastic photos of some of the menu items that will be available in the tasting booths! You can see a few of them below, and a few more will be highlighted over the upcoming weeks.

What We’ll Be Tasting at the Food and Wine Classic

Six Swan and Dolphin restaurants will be featured at the Causeway tasting stations on Friday and Saturday nights (October 8th and 9th, 2010). The offerings will change each night, so be sure to check out the menus below before deciding your dates (or just head over both nights — that’s what I’d do!)

Todd English’s bluezoo
The first night of the festival will feature one of the restaurant’s trendiest dishes: Shrimp Steamrollers! According Tony Porcellini, to make the steamrollers, bluezoo Executive Chef Chris Windus basically “deconstructs a shrimp cocktail in a tube.” Eating them is an even bigger adventure! Chef Windus will be on hand at the tasting booth to demonstrate.

Another trendy dish takes the stage at the bluezoo booth on Saturday. Pipettes filled with buerre blanc sauce will spear small pieces of scallop and bacon. To eat, simply pull the scallop and bacon from
