Review: Caramel Sticks at Disneyland’s Candy Palace

So, last month I headed out west for the 24-Hour Kickoff of the Disneyland Resort Diamond Anniversary Celebration …and pretty much ate my way through Disneyland in three days. SO, I have LOTS to share with you here on the blog of my epic Diamond eating adventure.

But, today I’m going to highlight one of the best things I ate, hands down, during those three days. And that’s saying something, because I had a Bacon Mac & Cheese Cone, brunch at Club 33, all five Jungle Skewers at the Bengal Barbecue and so much more.

Are you ready? Then allow me to set the scene…you wander into the Candy Palace to check the candy cases to see what’s new…

2014 Disneyland Candy Cane Dates Announced!

Tis the season! As the holiday decor goes up around the parks and resorts, the Disneyland bakeries are busy mixing up traditional recipes! The highly-anticipated Hand-Crafted Candy Canes from the Disneyland Resort can soon be yours! That’s right; we’ve got the dates.

Haven’t heard about the candy canes? Check out this post that showcases our awesome Disneyland candy cane adventure.

Hand Made Candy Canes from The Candy Palace

Just like last year, Candy Cane making will alternate between Candy Palace on Main Street USA in Disneyland and Trolley Treats over on Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure.

HOW IT WORKS

Technically you are not supposed to line up before park opening, but guess what people do? We recommend arriving 30-45 minutes prior to park opening and your best bet is likely to line up for a morning extra magic hour.

Wristbands may be picked up at park opening.

During the 2012 and 2013 holidays, there were 40 wristbands per batch and three batches per day. This means that 120 wristbands were given out at park opening.

The earlier you are there, the earlier your batch. PLEASE NOTE that [Read more…]

The adorable Easter Bunny Caramel Apples have made a comeback, along with some fun new yummies that include Mickey Easter Egg Cake Pops and Mickey Easter Grass & “Egg” themed treats.

Adorable as can be, these Easter Eggs are as tasty as they are cute.

The moist cake is dipped in white chocolate, then decorated with sanding sugar, and topped with chocolate Mickey ears.  They come in chocolate, vanilla & red velvet.

We went with chocolate, because it was the only flavor they had left in these ones.

Snack Series: The Mickey Marshmallow Wand

There are several stops around both Disney World and Disneyland with bakery cases that are full-to-overflowing with eye-catching goodies. In Disney World, these spots include Magic Kingdom’s Main Street Confectionery, Prairie Outpost and Supply, and Big Top Treats; Hollywood Studios’ Sweet Spells; and Downtown Disney’s Goofy’s Candy Company and the Candy Cauldron.

In Disneyland, they include Marceline’s Confectionery, Pooh Corner, Trolley Treats, and the Candy Palace.

A snack often found in these cases is the Marshmallow Wand. And we mention them on DFB fairly often because they change with the seasons.

Gourmet Caramel and Candy Apples are legendary at Disney. And come January, guests at Disneyland (and possibly Disney World, too!) are going to have a brand new apple to add to the list!

But seriously, this is one of the most gargantuan caramel apples I’ve ever seen!

Dining in Disneyland: 2013 Disneyland Candy Cane Dates!!

It’s about that time of the year! The Christmas decor is being put up around the resort and seasonal treats are starting to surface! Are you craving Hand Made Candy Canes from the Disneyland Resort yet?  Yes? Good! ‘Cause we’ve got the dates!

Not sure what we’re talking about? Check out this post that showcases our first candy cane adventure.

Just like last year, Candy Cane making will be alternating between Candy Palace on Main Street USA in Disneyland and Trolley Treats over on Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure.

HOW IT WORKS

Technically you are not supposed to line up before park opening, but guess what people do? When I went for the first time, I was lucky and got there just 30 minutes before park opening. But I talked to someone who was there by 4:00am, which to me is nuts. So basically, it’s your call. Last year, the crush wasn’t quite so bad, but you never know what’s going to happen this year.

Wristbands may be picked up at park opening.

I HAVE NOT confirmed this info, but this is how it went down last year:
There will be 40 wristbands per batch and three batches per day.  This means that 120 wristbands will be given out at park opening.

The earlier you are there, the earlier your batch. I HAVE CONFIRMED that [Read more…]

Dining in Disneyland: A Quick Peek at Halloween Treats

Halloween time has arrived at the Disneyland Resort, and the treats (especially the pumpkin ones) are calling my name!

Familiar Pumpkin Faces at Halloween Time!

I found a handful of fun items that I felt needed to be shared immediately so that your Halloween snacking could be planned accordingly.

Please note that we will be posting some in depth reviews of some of these treats, but for now, here’s a mini sampling…

Let’s not save the best for last.

Pumpkin Fritters, Gingerbread Cookies, and Pumpkin Latte

These gems can be found in Disneyland at the Royal Street Veranda. They have REAL pumpkin chunks in them and are fried to perfection.  They come with a creamy custard dipping sauce.

The Royal Street Veranda also features a Pumpkin Latte
The Pumpkin Latte is flavorful but not at all artificial tasting.

A perfect treat to keep you warm, if it ever cools down here in Southern California!

AND Spooky Kooky Gingerbread Cookies
Soft, chewy and ginger-bready, with a Halloween twist!

Dining in Disneyland: New Cake Pops Spotted at the Disneyland Resort

I never miss an opportunity to see what Marceline’s in Downtown Disney is up to.  Even if I’m just quickly walking by, I always pop in to see if there is anything new.

On a recent visit, two fun cake pops caught my eye.  The Goofy and Cheshire Cat inspired cake pops appear to be close relatives to their caramel apple counterparts.  (You can read about the delicious Cheshire Cat Caramel apple here and the disastrous Goofy Caramel Apple here.)

This post though, is all about their mini lookalikes, which were introduced to the resort at the beginning of August.

New Cheshire Cat and Goofy Cake Pops Join Mike Wazowski!

Since I had already tried a Mike Wazowski cake pop (on more than one occasion) during the Monstrous Summer season, I purchased a Cheshire Cat and Goofy cake pop to go.  We were staying on property for the weekend, so I walked them back to the Disneyland Hotel for a little in-room review.

First up, we’ll take a look at the Cheshire Cat.

Dining in Disneyland: NEW! Handmade Candy Sticks from Candy Palace

The Candy Palace is always one of my favorite stops when visiting Main Street USA at Disneyland.

Candy Palace

On a recent walk through, I noticed an exciting new addition to the check out counter; Candy Sticks!

I immediately gravitated toward them because they reminded me of a very special holiday treat. Yep, Disneyland’s famous handmade candy canes.  Same width, same patterns, and same packaging, but less than 1/2 the price!

Candy Sticks from Candy Palace

Candy Sticks

New for Summer, the candy sticks are made in the Candy Palace kitchen using the same process as the Disneyland candy canes.  Each stick is generous in size, basically one of the giant candy canes minus the hook!

They are $4.99 each, and come in three flavors: orange, lemon lime, and cinnamon.  Unfortunately, because they are handmade, you may not use your annual pass for a discount on these puppies. There is however no limit on how many you can buy.

Orange, Cinnamon & Lemon-Lime

Of course I had to buy one of each flavor and take them home for experimental research!  When I got them out of their packages, I noticed that they had the same light and airy feel to them as the holiday Candy Canes.

Because they are handmade, you will notice that [Read more…]
