Recipe: S’mores Bake from Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue in Disneyland

There’s an iconic dessert in Disneyland that everyone’s got to try at least once. Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue offers giant cookie bakes for dessert, which are amazing; but they also offer a S’mores Bake built for a crowd!

We had a chance to sample this dessert firsthand a while back.

Isn't it gorgeous?

What makes this version of s’mores so fantastic? It takes your indulgence to the next level by making it on a base of Brownies. Brownies.

For ease, this recipe calls for a Brownie Mix to get you started. But you should absolutely feel free to substitute your favorite brownie recipe if you’d like to make the brownies from scratch. Either way, it’s pretty much guaranteed to be awesome.

Enjoy!

Dining in TOKYO Disneyland: Pre-Packaged Souvenir Snacks

One of my very favorite things about my visit to the Tokyo Disney Resort was browsing the shops there.  The packaged souvenir snacks were aplenty; shelves, shelves and more shelves filled with unique treats.  I was totally obsessed with the adorable packaging.  Another plus?  There were plastic displays showing you exactly what was inside of that adorable packaging.

Plastic displays of candy "purses"

Even with the plastic displays though, I still had no idea what some of the things were!  Below is a photo tour of some of the items I found adorable and interesting, and a few that were just plain bizarre.

Let’s start over at the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel.  There is a great little convenience store there that carries a wide variety of Disney themed food, snacks, drinks, candy, etc.  Below are some of the adorable drinks that they had. The Snow White bottle is an apple & mango drink, the Tsum Tsum bottles are tea, and the Frozen ones are bottled water.

I actually tried Mickey and Minnie “Potato” crackers below.  They are sort of a cracker/potato chip hybrid.  Each puffy piece is Mickey shaped!

YOU MUST EAT THIS: Warm Peanut Butter Brownie at Epcot’s Sunshine Seasons

This past Sunday was National Peanut Butter Day!! But, you guys know that around here, every day is peanut butter day, so… I couldn’t wait to tell you about this ah-mazing snack I tried last week!

It’s at Sunshine Seasons, which is one of the best counter-service joints in Epcot. It’s home to yummy breakfasts (including their Croissant Berry Bread Pudding), healthy grab and go eats, and dinners that rival many table service meals.

It’s also THE place for some fabulous snacks in Epcot, including Strawberry Shortcake, the Red Velvet Whoopie Pie, and one of my favorite carrot cake cupcakes on property.

But, now, I’ve found something that puts all of that to shame. I’d heard rumors about this awesomeness, and — FYI — they’re TRUE.

Check out the Warm Peanut Butter Brownie.

Honestly, it doesn’t look like much at first glance. But, you can see that the Brownie Batter is swirled with Peanut Butter. So that’s awesome. A thin Caramel Glaze adds another element to the top.

Snack Series: Chocolate Dipped Chocolate Chip Meringue from Epcot’s Les Halles Boulangerie & Patisserie

We are back to take another look into the tempting pastry cases at Les Halles Boulangerie & Patisserie in Epcot’s France Pavilion!

You know that we love Les Halles. I never pass up a chance to stop in here for a breakfast pastry. The Frangipane Triangle is my favorite!

At lunch, I often enjoy one of their deliciously authentic sandwiches, like the Jambon Beurre. It never fails to transport me straight back to France!

But you will never guess what I decided to try on this visit…

Chocolate Dipped Chocolate Chip Meringue

On my last trip to Walt Disney World I, of course, had to stop by Les Halles. And I finally took the opportunity to try the — I can’t believe I’m going to say this — Chocolate Dipped Chocolate Chip Meringues.

Wait. No. You have no idea how HUGE this thing is from the picture of it in the case. So, being the very helpful AJ I am, I knew I had to get one for you guys! If for no other reason, so you could see it on a plate.

Okay, here we are, out in the light at one of those great little cafe tables, tucked back into the France Pavilion. And now, you can appreciate the enormity of this meringue for yourself.

Still not getting it? That’s a fork on the plate beside it, for scale.

Maybe I was a little bowled over here. But I have never seen a meringue this big in my life!

Holiday Snack Series: Bûche de Noël from Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie in Epcot’s France Pavilion

It’s time for another stop of the season on our Holidays Around the World Tour of Epcot!

This is such an exciting time of the year to visit Walt Disney World. With the beautiful decorations and incredible gingerbread displays, there’s so much to take in! But be sure to carve out some time in your busy holiday schedule for a day at Epcot during your trip.

We recently enjoyed a few days in the midst of the magic, and today we’ve got a review of a classic holiday treat.

Bûche de Noël from Epcot’s Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie

It’s hard to resist Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie in Epcot’s France Pavilion on any given day. But there’s no way I’m passing up this delicious spot when holiday treats are on the menu!

Bûche de Noël at Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie — Part of Holidays Around the World

The bakery pays homage to French Christmas tradition with the inclusion of a Bûche de Noël for a limited time. And this year’s version is completely different than last year’s — a great reason to try it in 2014!

Bûche de Noël — In the Case

If you’re familiar with the traditional dessert, then you know it’s usually a simple roulade, made with sponge cake spread with buttercream and frosted with more buttercream. The whole thing is decorated to look like a bûche de Noël, or Yule log.

But of course, Les Halles had to take it to the next level.

To begin, the Bûche de Noël you’ll find here is an individual portion — and I don’t mean a slab of cake. :-)

Top 7 Must-Try Disneyland Frozen Treats

Summer is right around the corner!!

Top 7 Disney Frozen Treats

And when the mercury climbs, there’s no better way to cool off at Disney than with one of their top-notch frozen treats!

But how do you choose just one??? Well, let’s be honest. We don’t. We choose, you know, seven.

Today, we’re taking a look at a few of our favorites, all in the name of helping you decide! Aren’t we nice like that? I don’t know about you, but I’m already feeling refreshed!

Hand-Dipped Ice Cream Bars at Clarabelle’s

One of my favorite frozen treat genres is the ice cream bar. After all, there are several foods with sticks on this list!

But one of the best, hands down, is the Make Your Own Ice Cream Bar at Clarabelle’s in Disney California Adventure.

Choose your Bar — Vanilla, Chocolate, or Mixed Berry Sorbet. And then choose your Dip from Milk or Dark Chocolate. After that, play with toppings by adding one, or all of them! And you walk out with the ice cream bar of your dreams.

Top 4 Disney Chocolate Goodies to Share With Your Valentine!

Happy Valentine’s Day, Everyone!

We can’t let this day go by without thinking dreamily of all the ways we’d be celebrating if we were lucky enough to be in Walt Disney World Today! Like chocolate ganache, maybe? Here’s a fun holiday cupcake found at many Disney’s Hollywood Studios restaurants right now!

Share a Chocolate Milkshake at the Plaza Inn Restaurant

One of my favorite under-the-radar dining spots in Disney World is the Plaza Restaurant in Magic Kingdom. Affordable by Disney standards, they have some delicious dishes. AND your view as you dine if you’re lucky? Cinderella Castle! So how could you go wrong for a hassle-free romantic date night?

While I’ve enjoyed most everything I’ve ordered here, hands down my favorite menu items are the Hand Dipped Cookies and Cream Milkshakes. They’re incredible! They come served in those heavy, old-fashioned, footed glasses that you can only get in soda shops of our childhood!

Top it with Whipped Cream and a Cherry, ask for two straws, and sip away with your Honey Pie while you take in the castle views. Sounds like a pretty awesome date to me. :-)

Nibble on a Salted Caramel Chocolate in Epcot

Or maybe you think there’s no better date night than a stroll around World Showcase in Epcot. With stunning views, charming shops, fun attractions, and delicious eats, I couldn’t agree more!

But after you’ve shared a bowl of Spaghetti e Polpettine at Via Napoli, or perhaps a luxurious French dinner at Monsieur Paul, save a little room for dessert. And my suggestion is a walk over to the Germany Pavilion for a stop at Karamell-Küche.

This little German-inspired sweets shop is home to some of my favorite Epcot indulgences. Snag a bag or two of their caramel popcorn for the road. But for sharing with your special guy or gal, try the Chocolate Covered Sea Salt Caramel.

Spotted: Food Finds in Epcot’s France Pavilion

You might think “seen one Disney gift shop, you’ve seen ‘em all.” And, honestly, that’s often true. But when it comes to shops in the World Showcase pavilions of Epcot, you really never know what you’re going to find!

I love that the little shops which are situated throughout the pavilions have continued to offer items from the countries they represent. But seeing that I (and you, since you’re reading this) have a fascination with food, it’s the food finds that I prize above all!

Wooden Spoon Display in Epcot's France

Remember a while back when we started amassing yummy finds in the UK and Canada Pavilions for a tasty international picnic? Well, today, we’re crossing the Channel into the France Pavilion to showcase some new food items that I’d never found before!

Fun Food Finds From France!

Since France is the country of, well, food…among other things…I was especially excited to stumble across a bunch of new food treasures when I was there recently.

Perfect for taking souvenirs home (especially for the Francophile in your life), the shops are a great stop for feeling like you’re in France without having to mess with customs and hunting up your passport.

French Pantry Items

The first display I found was of some fun items to French up your pantry a bit. Chocolate Fondue, anyone? (Seriously…is this making it home with you? Because I’m reasonably sure it would never make it to my suitcase. We’re talking picking up a plastic spoon in the food court on the way back to my hotel room.)

Chocolate Fondue

But there is also a nice selection of kitchen essentials here as well, including a variety or Mustards, Salts, and Herbs de Provence.

The beautiful containers also make lovely decorations, I think. Some of these little pots are totally reusable in your kitchen.

Disney Recipe: Peanut Butter, Banana, and Candied Bacon Pie From the Boardwalk Bakery

And now…a recipe for a super-interesting new dessert in Disney World!

When the brand new BoardWalk Bakery reopened earlier this year, we were there bright and early on the very first morning to bring you a full account of what was new, and what was returning.

And while we found many brand new things to love, like the Lemon Meringue Tart (sigh), one of our top pics was the Peanut Butter, Banana, and Candied Bacon Pie!

Sounds pretty keen, doesn’t it?

2013 Epcot Food and Wine Festival Review: The Chocolate Dinner!

How many times have you said to yourself, “I wish I could eat CHOCOLATE for dinner!!!!” I know. TONS, right? Well the dream has finally come true! And it happened at the 2013 Epcot Food and Wine Festival!

This year, a brand new signature dining experience kicked off the festival during opening weekend. The Chocolate Dinner, hosted by Ghirardelli Chocolate, promised to be a sumptuous experience for the discriminating chocolate lover.

The dinner consisted of a reception, followed by six plated courses, presented by the Disney chefs who created them.

Let’s head over to Epcot’s World Showplace Event Pavilion for a look at this decadent event!

Reception

Ever wonder what’s behind those enormous brown doors between the Canada and UK Pavilions within Epcot’s World Showcase? You might, if you’ve never attended an event at the World Showplace Pavilion. But if you look closely at your Epcot map, you’ll see it there.

That was the setting for the evening’s event, and the sign above the beautiful awning announced it in style.

Chocolate Dinner Sign

Pan back a bit, and you can see the main entrance to the building. A reception preceding the plated dinner took place in the World Showplace courtyard, to the left of the main entrance.

World Showplace Entrance to the Chocolate Dinner

As we entered through the massive brown wooden doors, a team of servers greeted us with beverages. Guests could choose from Young’s Double Chocolate Stout, Chocolate Martinis, or Sparkling Wine. The drinks disappeared quickly every time the staff came out with another tray of them!
