Top Five Must-Eat Chocolate Covered Disney Snacks

If you’re of the opinion that dunking something in chocolate makes everything better, I’ve got a few snacks that you really need to sample!

Here are my top five chocolate-covered snacks in Disney World and Disneyland (not necessarily in order of beloved-ness ;-)). And I can’t wait to hear yours (mostly because then I get to go find them and chomp them)!

Chocolate-Covered Sea Salt Caramel

I found this treat on one of my many Karamell-Küche visits in Epcot’s Germany! One of several chocolate-y and caramel-y treats, it’s got the benefit of three distinct tastes and textures.

Chocolate-Covered Sea Salt Caramel

The chewy, super-sweet caramel is the central feature and taste, and it’s complemented by that creamy milk or dark chocolate (the dark chocolate will give a slight bitterness to the taste, which gives even more depth to the flavor!). The sea salt on the top gives a slight crunch and a solid kapow to your taste buds, making the sweet even sweeter! If you’ve been avoiding the salty-sweet trend that’s become so popular, this might be the best way to take your first step into that taste juxtaposition! You can always brush some of the salt off if you don’t like it. :-)

Peanut Butter Sandwich

This gorgeous confection, which I simply refer to as the peanut butter sandwich, used to be sold at Disney Parks on both coasts, but lately we’ve only found it in Disneyland. (It IS in Disneyland, though…I promise!)

Just to whet your whistle for the Chocolate, Wine, and Romance weekends at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando throughout February, I wanted to share this review of the hand-made chocolates I had the chance to sample when I was given a box by a friend last Fall!

Boxed Waldorf Chocolates

But first, here’s a little peek at how they make those incredible treats.

Guest Review: Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Treats

I’m excited to welcome Guest Reviewer Holly Burtchaell from Random Cravings Blog with a fun review of treats found at this year’s Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Walt Disney World! Warning: This read is sugar-sweet!

Party signage

Although Mr. Random and I have clocked too many trips to Disney World to count, somehow, neither of us has ever experienced Christmas at the Happiest Place on Earth. Luckily, that all changed last week, when we spent an entire week immersed in Disney Christmas happiness. In fact, this year’s very first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (MVMCP) was also our very first time at that event!

I quickly learned that in addition to being about the Christmas parade, the special fireworks, and the rare character appearances, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is also filled with yummy holiday treats!

Free Eats at MVMCP

Included with your ticket to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party are complimentary cookies and hot cocoa, along with healthier options of apple slices and apple juice. These treats were handed out at several locations around the Magic Kingdom…just follow the signs!

Battle of the Disney Chocolate-Covered Sandwiches

It was over a year ago that I first shared my chocolate-covered peanut butter sandwich experience here on the Disney Food Blog.

And since enjoying that one-of-a-kind snack, I’ve found that it’s rarely available in Walt Disney World anymore — even though you can find it regularly in Disneyland (when it’s not selling out in the span of a few hours) at Pooh Corner in Critter Country and at the Candy Palace on Main Street. It’s also at the Candy Shop in Disney California Adventure.

What you can still find regularly in Walt Disney World (and in Disneyland) are the the chocolate-covered s’mores, the sister candy to the peanut butter sandwich. They look exactly the same, but inside they’re oh-so-different!

I figured we should highlight both of these and see which one you guys prefer (be sure to vote in the poll at the end of the post!).

Major points to this option since it’s so regularly available on both coasts! The s’more is made up of [Read more…]

2011 Epcot Food and Wine Festival to Debut Chocolate Seminars

I had the (very much appreciated) opportunity to speak this evening with Marianne Hunnel, Area Manager, Event Content Development for the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. In addition to learning lots of fun facts about the Festival — including how much year-round hard work goes into making it happen — I heard a few fun tidbits about the 2011 Epcot Food and Wine Festival that I can’t wait to share with you!

I’ll be writing up the interview to post tomorrow, but this particular detail was too much fun to keep to myself! On three select Sundays during the festival, guests will have the opportunity to attend a Chocolate Discoveries Seminar!

Patterned after the popular Food and Wine Festival Cheese Seminars, Chocolate Discoveries will allow guests to first sample four different chocolates in their natural bar form while a presenter discusses the flavor variations.

Then, guests will have the opportunity to taste a savory dish made with chocolate, desserts made with chocolate, and even chocolate-inspired wine and cocktails!

Sounds like this seminar was made for me! We’ll keep you updated on the details. Booking is available on August 16th, online and by calling 407-WDW-FEST.

As always, all events are subject to change (especially when they haven’t been officially announced yet!)

For more information on the festival, keep an eye on our continuously updated 2011 Epcot Food and Wine Festival page.
