Happy Holidays from Disney Food Blog!

Welp, it’s that time of year. Time for Yule Logs and fireplaces, coziness and relaxation, family and friends and fun.

And Bacon?

Yep! We found some folks who made watching the fire in the fireplace just a leeeeetle bit better this year, and I wanted to share!

We wish you the happiest and most appetizing of holidays

from all of us here at DFB!

Thanks for reading and supporting DFB! For fun holiday details from Disney World and Disneyland, check out our Holidays in Disneyland Page and our Holidays in Disney World Page! :-)

Christmas Meal Options at Walt Disney World

Dining at Walt Disney World during the holiday season offers the chance to sample special entrees, desserts, and entire menus geared to Christmas travelers.

Disney restaurants often open up extra options — from counter-service to table-service to buffets — during the holiday season, and especially on Christmas Day.

We’ve got three ways that Disney dining changes during the holidays, and a few specific suggestions for you!

Disney Specialty Holiday Meals

Many Disney restaurants announce specialty Christmas Day menus! There are three different types of “options” offered during the season…

Extra Counter Service Options Open Up

A few of Disney’s oft-shuttered restaurants like Tomorrowland Terrace in Tomorrowland, Tortuga Tavern in Adventureland, and the Diamond Horseshoe Saloon in Frontierland open their doors for counter-service eats during [Read more…]

Happy Holidays from Disney Food Blog!

To me, this time of year is all about seeing and spending time with family, and that includes my awesomely cool parents — now apparently known to many readers as “AJ’s Mom and AJ’s Dad” (yes, they actually have t-shirts that say that). ;-)

Anyway, today I wanted to share with you a couple of videos that were shot by my Dad on my parents’ trip to Disney World over the Thanksgiving holiday. Check out these fantastic close-ups of the gingerbread and holiday displays at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and Disney’s Beach Club Resort! (While the Yacht Club display isn’t gingerbread, there are several signs that remind us of the yummy restaurants at the resort — and that works for me!)

I hope you have a wonderful holiday, no matter where you are. Thank you so much for reading, supporting, eating, and laughing with us here at the DFB!

I love this Mickey Gingerbread Cookie! It was just spicy enough and had a very chewy texture. I was glad to have the sweetness of the chocolate along with it.

Mickey Gingerbread Cookie

Why not take a bite out of one of these Santa Mickey cookies? These would make a great holiday stocking stuffer. Or make a basket of them for a hostess gift!

The Earl of Sandwich Holiday Sandwich is a cult favorite this time of year! Only available during the holiday season, this sammich stuffed with turkey and cranberry sauce — among other fixin’s — is the perfect savory accompaniment to all of this sweetness!

Christmas in Disneyland: Santa’s Cabin & Storytellers Cafe Gingerbread House

Heather Sievers is the Disney Food Blog’s Dining in Disneyland columnist. See more of her columns here!

There are two awesome holiday experiences in Disneyland Resort that are not to be missed this year. Nope, I’m not talking about the homemade candy canes or the yule log (though both of those are definitely not-to-be-missed!), I’m talking about visiting Santa’s Cabin at Big Thunder Ranch in Disneyland and visiting the gingerbread house at Storytellers Cafe in Disney’s Grand Californian Resort!

Santa’s Cabin at Big Thunder Ranch

Every year my family visits Santa at his Disneyland home away from the North Pole.  His lovely cabin in Big Thunder Ranch is the perfect escape from the harsh winter back home. He even brings along Mrs. Claus and his reindeer too!

Santa's Just Around the Corner!

Santa is one lucky guy, because Mrs. Claus has been busy in the cabin’s kitchen.  All of these yummy goodies are waiting for him when he’s done listening to Christmas wishes.

Dining in Disneyland: Gingerbread House Workshop at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen

After a super successful Haunted House Building Workshop with my family in October, I knew that we’d be back in December for the Gingerbread House Workshop…

Note: If you are in the Disneyland area, you still have time to register for the December 17th & 18th (THIS WEEKEND) Gingerbread House Workshops. Call Bruno Duarte asap at 714.776.5200 from 10am-4pm Monday-Friday. These workshops WILL SELL OUT.

Gingerbread House Workshop Information

Since this was not our first gingerbread rodeo, we were overly prepared for this workshop (after being under prepared at Halloween).  I had stocked up on supplies from Michael’s Arts & Crafts as well as Target. We knew going in that we were going to be making a serious masterpiece!

Some of our "extra" supplies!

Atmosphere and Haunted House Prep

Arriving right on time, we had just a few minutes to get organized and check out the set up. The room was once again arranged with large tables and reserved seating. We also had fun jingle bell necklaces waiting for us on our chairs!

2011 Gingerbread Displays at the Grand Floridian and Contemporary Resorts

Each holiday season, magical (and edible!) gingerbread creations are made for the enjoyment of guests of many Walt Disney World resorts.

It takes thousands of hours to build the enormous gingerbread displays, along with countless cups of sugar and a whole lot of patience. And in addition to the displays, storefronts are devised (the ones at the Grand Floridian and in Epcot are inside the Gingerbread Houses) to sell holiday goodies.

Let’s take a look at the 2011 displays fashioned for the Grand Floridian and Contemporary Resorts. Thanks to my Dad who shot these photos just after Thanksgiving!
