So, what’s #OnTheList this week? Why, it’s a breakfast item that is worth waking up early for every single time…
… because nothing says “Good morning!” quite like a plate full of MICKEY WAFFLES!!
Happy Sunday and happy first day of Spring! We hope the sun is shining and the flowers are blooming wherever you are! Now it’s time to sit back, relax, and catch up on the latest Disney food news!
Speaking of springtime and flowers blooming, the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival is in full bloom right now and we’ve had a chance to eat our way around the festival’s Outdoor Kitchens!
There are so many delicious items on the menus but we have our favorites. Be sure to check out our Best of the Fest – we have the scoop on what you should eat at the Flower and Garden Festival.
We have a lot to share with you this week, so let’s jump right in…
Allright, Star Wars Fans! And Cupcake Fans. And Contempo Cafe Fans…
We’re back yet again this week at one of Disney World’s longtime bonafide Cupcake Capitals — the Contempo Cafe in Disney World’s Contemporary Resort — to check out one of the more recent additions to its nearly legendary bakery case. While it remains home to treats like the awesome Peanut Butter Pie (aka: heaven), it’s still a great spot to grab a good old fashioned cupcake.
As always, the cupcakes here do change with higher frequency than many spots. The featured cupcake for the month of March, for instance, is a Strawberry Shortcake Cupcake (and early April should bring a Carrot Cake Cupcake). But when I went to see it for myself, it was another batch that caught my attention.
The Star Wars Cupcakes.
Now, typically I’d insert a picture of the bakery case display to give you pricing information, descriptions, and all that. And I do have one to share in a moment. But first, I’ll show you the cupcake I grabbed.
The cupcake that you see above is topped with a Star Wars character ring; specifically, Phasma, Captain of the First Order from Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens. [Read more…]
Happy Spring! At least, it’s Spring in Disney World where temperatures are starting to rise once more with warm days leading into gorgeous nights!
No matter what the thermometer says in your neck of the woods, why not enjoy a bit of spring with us here at the DFB as we travel all over Disney World to find out What’s New!? [Read more…]
The Contempo Cafe has consistently been one of my favorite spots for better-than-average counter service meals.
What you find here is quick service, no advance dining reservation required. But the fare is anything but fast food quality.
It had been a while since I’d enjoyed a meal here, and since that last visit, they’d added a Lobster Roll that was getting rave reviews from readers!
Recently, on a very quick visit to the World, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to check out all that’s new at the Contempo — and to see if I still consider it a must-do stop.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Contempo Cafe, well, you’ve probably seen it before, and you just didn’t know it! It occupies primo Disney real estate right next to Chef Mickey’s on the Grand Canyon Concourse in Disney’s Contemporary Hotel.
That’s the area that you whizz by when you’re traveling on the Monorail en route to Magic Kingdom. See? [Read more…]
We are back with the final installment in our popular series sharing our picks for the Top Value Restaurants when it comes to using your Disney Dining Plan in Walt Disney World.
Previously, we shared our recommendations for the Recommended Disney Dining Plan Two-Credit Restaurants as well as our choices for Recommended Disney Dining Plan One-Credit Restaurant Values.
Today, we’re sharing our recommendations for Quick Service Restaurants when you’re using the Disney Dining Plan.
Remember — the name of the game here is finding the restaurants that hit the right balance: they have 1) a high average entree price, but they’re also 2) spots that we here at DFB would recommend.
Why is this important? Because we want to help you maximize those Disney Dining Plan Quick Service Credits. Note that we have plenty of our own favorites that don’t make this list because the average price didn’t put them at the top.
Here are our picks for the restaurants that give you the best overall bang for your Disney Dining Plan buck when it comes to quick service credit spots.
Wolfgang Puck Express has been around forever, it seems. But one thing doesn’t change — even after all of these years, it still represents amazing quality and value, whether you’re dining on the DDP or not.
That’s because the food here is easily on par with many table service spots. And when you consider that the average price of an entree here is just over $13, it also makes a lot of sense to spend your DDP credits here. [Read more…]
February is the month we celebrate love!
And since we LOVE few things more than checking out all the goings-on with FOOD all over Disney World, what say we take a whirlwind tour around the parks (and a few resorts) and see What’s New?! [Read more…]
Welcome back to the Contempo Cafe in Disney’s Contemporary Resort!
The last time we paid a visit to Contempo, we checked out a line-up of five new desserts that had hit the almost-famous Contempo Cafe bakery case. At the time, these included the Strawberry Blondie Banana Split, the Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwich, the Cream Horn, the Swirl Cone Cupcake, and the Peanut Butter Pie.
Yes, that fabulous Peanut Butter Pie is still there (confession: my main motivation for stopping by more recently was to make sure that it indeed was)! In fact, the only one of the five that hasn’t remained on a longer-term basis is the Swirl Cone Cupcake. Of course, that’s not altogether unexpected, seeing as Contempo Cafe has a great reputation for changing up cupcakes quite often. Which is exactly why it’s fun to stop by… you never know what you might find.
This time, my search resulted in finding the Boston Cream Cupcake.
Taking inspiration from the famous Boston Cream Pie (which, in actuality, is a cake as opposed to a traditional pie), this yellow cupcake has a pastry cream filling and is topped with chocolate buttercream icing. The garnish is a chocolate ganache, with an added touch of white and dark chocolate swirls as a bit of decoration. [Read more…]
We made it through the first full week of September, which means we’re getting closer and closer to the 2015 Epcot Food and Wine Festival!
In other exciting news, we found out that Morimoto Asia is opening at the end of this month in Disney World; and in Disneyland, guests can grab the opportunity to dine INSIDE the Jungle Cruise!
We have a lot to share, so let’s jump right in!
We’ve tasted some truly delicious treats this week — Peanut Butter Pie, anyone? — but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Details also continue to emerge about two of Fall’s hottest Disney food events — the 2015 Epcot Food and Wine Festival and the Swan and Dolphin Food and Wine Classic. The latter takes place over the course of one weekend during the Festival — which lasts more than seven weeks!
I know you’re anxious to get all the info, so let’s get to it!
