There is a MAJOR nostalgia factor for me with this week’s #OnTheList item, and many west coast Disney park visitors can’t call it a day at Disneyland until they’ve had one of these: a Disneyland Churro!

Now, you may have noticed something interesting about this #OnTheList item. Much like Dole Whip, Churros are indeed available at both Disneyland AND Walt Disney World. However, we’re giving Disneyland Churros the #OnTheList treatment because they’re more prominent there, and are nothing short of a must-eat treat on the west coast. [Read more…]

Are you ready for one huge hunka-hunka cupcake? Because THAT’S what you’ll get with the King Cupcake, our latest #OnTheList item found at Disney’s Pop Century Resort!

This week’s #OnTheList item is approaching cult classic status when it comes to Disney food: Zebra Domes! You can find these beauties at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom Lodge at both Boma and The Mara.

Zebra Domes are #OnTheList

At Boma, Animal Kingdom Lodge’s buffet restaurant, you can eat as many as you want any night of the week. Just high-tail it over to the dessert table!

The Mara, AKL’s counter-service location, usually has Zebra Domes in their refrigerated grab-and-go section. They’re sold in sets of four.

So what’s a Zebra Dome? An Amarula Cream Liquor mousse is enrobed in panna cotta-esque white chocolate and drizzled with chocolate and chocolate shavings. The whole thing sits atop a thin cake base.

While this is, indeed, #OnTheList, this is the kind of dessert that you either love or hate. Because of the flavors included, this is often a favorite for those who also enjoy Tiramisu.

The flavors that really jump out for me are caramel from the Amarula and the white chocolate.

Dining in Tokyo Disneyland: Park Snacks, Plus a Few Meals, Too!

There are so many unique eats at the Tokyo Disney Resort.  In this post, I’ve complied most of the items my family tried on our recent trip. Rather than do individual posts on each thing, here’s a mega post featuring them all! Ready, let’s go to Tokyo!

I’m going to start with my very first snack stop at Tokyo Disney Sea. We stopped at Refrescos’ in the Mediterranean Harbor area for a little bit of everything: A Gyoza Sausage Bun, a Maple Mickey Churro, and Cream of Corn Soup.  Basically one of every thing on the menu.  We were really excited because there was absolutely zero line.  I’m told that the Gyoza Sausage Bun is one of the most popular items at Disney Sea and sometimes people wait over an hour for one.  We lucked out because apparently this was an area that just recently started selling them.  Normally they are only at the stand in Mysterious Island.

I was most excited about the Maple Mickey Churro, but unfortunately, it fell way short of the churros we have at the Disneyland Resort.  Although it scored major points for being Mickey shaped, the churro itself was hard, dry and had very little flavor.  Really cute, but not at all worth it.

The Corn Soup was fabulous.  It’s not creamy like a chowder you’d find in the states, but it is still flavorful and hits the spot on a chilly day.  I love that it’s served in [Read more…]

Review: Banana Parfait and Vanilla Cake with Chocolate Custard at Hollywood Studios

If you’ve visited any Quick Service restaurants in Hollywood Studios, you’ve likely encountered a few standard dessert options, in addition to some pretty spectacular cupcakes.

Regular options include Chocolate Mousse and No-Sugar-Added Strawberry Parfait, or Vanilla Cake with Chocolate Custard and Banana Parfait. These are often part of the dessert options to include with your Quick Service Meal on the Disney Dining Plan (and, of course, can be purchased on their own as well).

I stopped by Studio Catering Co. where the desserts include the Banana Parfait and Vanilla Cake with Chocolate Custard. You can also find these at Rosie’s All-American Cafe, Catalina Eddie’s, and Fairfax Fare. Let’s dig in so you can decide how you’d most prefer to use that dessert option! (Note that these are also available at Fairfax Fare!)

News! ‘Ohana Bread Pudding Now Available at Tambu Lounge in Walt Disney World’s Polynesian Resort

Well, we know that a lot of guests will be unhappy in the coming weeks and months as Disney’s Polynesian Resort undergoes some serious refurb and renovation — closing several of the dining locations on property.

Tambu Sign

But THIS is a welcome “benefit” of the whole situation!

We’re excited to let you know that everyone’s favorite Disney dessert (OK — my favorite dessert, but I know you guys like it, too!) from ‘Ohana is now available to any Tom, Dick, or Harry who strolls into Tambu Lounge!

'Ohana Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce

‘Ohana Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce

Yep — this better-than-anything pineapple bread pudding topped with ice cream and covered in caramel sauce is more than the sum of its parts…and you can get your own personal serving at the Poly’s popular resort lounge. No more need to buy the whole dinner at ‘Ohana to get the very best part!

(You can see a review of other great Tambu Lounge goodies here!)

Tambu Lounge

Tambu Lounge

We’ve been asking for years if we can get this must-have dessert at the Lounge, and while it’s happened a few times, the answer is more than often “no.” We’re thrilled that — at least for a little while — the answer will be a resounding “YES!!” Note that the serving will just be for one…you do NOT get that lovely all-you-care-to-eat bowl of the stuff here. ;-)

We’re not sure how long this will be available, but it’s going to become a new Disney World First Day Tradition for me until it’s gone!

Can’t make it to WDW right now? Make this at home with our Bread Pudding Recipe!

Will Tambu Lounge be a stop on your Disney destination list now that the famous bread pudding is on the menu? Let us know in the comments below!

Guest Review: Royal Tea at Waldorf Astoria Orlando

Join me in welcoming guest author Kimberly Button with a review of the Royal Tea at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando Resort.

Tea time seems to be a vanishing indulgence in today’s modern world. So when I found out that the Waldorf Astoria Orlando is bringing back the culinary experience steeped (pardon the pun!) in tradition, I was happy to check it out.

You have got to make plans ahead of time for The Royal Tea at Waldorf Astoria Orlando. It’s not a “just pop in” kind of dining experience. The Royal Tea is served only on Sundays, and only from 3 – 5 p.m. The culinary staff needs advance notice to prepare platters of sandwiches and treats to be available for those choosing The Royal Tea experience.

Peacock Alley

The Royal Tea is held in the Waldorf’s beautiful Peacock Alley lounge. The lounge, with its vibrant carpet of royal blue and deep greens in peacock feather motif, is regal and welcoming at the same time.

Peacock Alley has plenty of seating options, and it is also where you’ll find the main bar. A variety of guests were seated in the lounge during our visit, including those just sitting around and talking, guests with luggage waiting to depart, and a family ordering quick snacks from the bar. There are plenty of cozy couches and seats surrounding large tables.

Piano Player

A piano player starts to perform in the lounge at the time tea service begins, which is a welcome treat to listen to live music from across the lounge.

Tea for Two

For our tea reservations, we were shown to a small table on the outskirts of the lounge that had been set up for tea. It appeared that there were only two parties with tea reservations on this day (each of us had a party of two), and both of us were sat in opposite corners of the lounge.

After we were seated, our waiter came by and asked us for our tea selection. It would be wise to check out the menu on the kiosk outside of Peacock Alley before sitting down, to choose which type of tea you want, since a formal menu is not presented at the table. Our server was able to make recommendations, though, and suggested the most popular tea, a white ginger pear.

The six teas come from Tea Forte, and are served for your selection upon a silver platter. Teas include English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Decaf English Breakfast, Jasmine Green Tea, Chamomile, and White Ginger Pear.

The teas are in a triangle tea bag, with a cute little leaf attached by a wire at the top. The leaf serves up two purposes – not only is it super cute, but it can be bent over the top of your cup to keep the tea bag from floating around.

Tea bag

The White Ginger Pear was exceptionally good, with a smoother flavor than many teas. The black teas tend to have a stronger flavor, but this white tea was delicate with just a hint of caffeine.

After the tea was served and allowed to steep for a few minutes, the first platter of food was brought out.

Sandwich Platter

The first serving was an assortment of tea sandwiches, one of each for both of us. The selections include cucumber, roasted turkey, black forest ham, classic egg salad, and smoked salmon.

Sandwich menu

The sandwiches were flavorful and really great. Often, tea sandwiches can be bland, but these sandwiches were real standouts. Forget just plain cucumber sandwiches. The Waldorf Astoria Orlando bumps it up a notch by adding shaved Asian pear, which was a crisp and refreshing combination paired with dill cream cheese.

The most impressive, I thought, was the [Read more…]

The Story of Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port in Disneyland

For those who are new to Disney parks, everything here has a backstory. Rides, shows, and, yes, even restaurants!

Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port

Recently, one of my good friends, Eric Chu, shared the backstory of Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port with us.

For those who haven’t been there, this counter-service restaurant is located in Tomorrowland at the Disneyland resort. Basically, you climb off of Space Mountain and there you are!

But do you know WHY there’s a pizza joint in the middle of the Milky Way? Let’s find out!

The History Behind Redd Rocket’s Pizza Port in Disneyland

“The only real problem with long-term space travel is that you can’t get a decent pizza.” — Dr. Tyrone Mantanio, INSA Sector 5

A-GREED! Can you imagine traveling through space without the ability to order pizza?! I know, right? ;-D And according to the always-creative Disney imagineers, solving the problem of finding must-have food in the cosmos became a goal for scientists!

Snack Series: Beignets at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen Express

I have been promising myself — and you guys! — that I’d get back to Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen Express for a while now. And today is the day!

Sign at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen Express

Located adjacent to the main Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen table service restaurant in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District, this counter service spot serves up some great, quick options.

We showed you the icy Sno-Balls last year, and now it’s time to share the most prized (in my opinion) option on the menu!

The Express location of Ralph Brennan’s offers the same New Orleans vintage vibe as the table service restaurant, but with no indoor seating. This is strictly and “order it to-go” kinda place, though there are several tables outside.

One cool feature, though: see that area behind the glass? It’s actually an “on stage” area where employees are making beignets!

Inside Jazz Kitchen Express

After you taste a beignet from here, you’re pretty much guaranteed to want to duplicate the magic at home (or at least try). For the adventurous, Cafe Du Monde Beignet Mix is sold here as well.
