It’s beignet time (all the time, but we digress)! You know we’re always on top of the seasonal, temporary flavors at Disneyland Resort’s Mint Julep Bar, and right now, it’s strawberry season!
Who loves breakfast? Me, toooo! And if there’s anything better than breakfast, it’s vacation breakfast. Even better? DISNEY VACATION breakfast. And that’s what we’re talking about today in our latest DFB Video!
What’s your Disney breakfast favorite? Mickey Waffles and MORE Mickey Waffles? Tonga Toast? Nutella Waffle Sandwiches? How about a buffet of endless classics or all you care to enjoy skillets paired with antics or characters? [Read more…]
Editor’s Note: We’ve confirmed that all options — grab and go, the buffet, and the food truck options, are all considered to be quick service credits on the Disney Dining Plan.
Thanks to the huge brouhaha that it caused, most of us know that Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort at Walt Disney World is undergoing a massive renovation starting — well, now.
While the resort undergoes what is from all accounts going to be a gigantic, transformative makeover, dining options are obviously going to be impacted. In fact, Caribbean Beach Resort’s only bar, Banana Cabana, and its only sit-down restaurant, Shutters, are closing to make way for the overhaul.
Obviously, people still need to eat, though. So we’ve been monitoring the situation closely. As part of that, we’ve visited the resort a couple of times over the last two weeks to bring you descriptions and photos of everything, as the transitional plans shape up. [Read more…]
Hello and Happy Thursday! We have another spectacular DFB Video to share with you today. And this time, we’re bringing you a closer look at the breakfast treat that you and I both can’t get enough of — Mickey Waffles!
Whether you like the mini version, or you go for Mickey Waffles that are roughly the size of your face , nothing says “I’m on a Disney vacay!” like enjoying one of these yummo treats.
First up, we have to caution you: we could not get a definite answer about how long breakfast at Sanaa will stick around. For now, Cast Members continue to tell us that it’s in a “testing phase.” We did note, however, that breakfast had not been added to the Sanaa signs outside of the restaurant.
Basically, this is a makeshift breakfast situation. Nothing points to this being a permanent offering. But for now, here are your options for Grab and Go and Quick Service. And yes — they are accepting the Disney Dining Plan. A meal here will set you back one quick service meal credit. [Read more…]
They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so we totally think that there should be some amazing pastries #OnTheList! And we’re starting at Gaston’s Tavern in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.
You’ll find the cozy counter spot in New Fantasyland, adjacent to other attractions featuring Beauty and the Beast themeing. And if you’re a fan of that film, you have to see this area. Just like Cars Land in Disney California Adventure, Disney did an absolutely astounding job making this corner of the park an immersive experience. You expect LeFou to greet you at every turn! We’re tackling another question from the DFB Reader mailbag! And today, it’s all about breakfast.
Our reader asks:
Where can we get a good breakfast if we are NOT into characters or buffets?
There are lots of spots to enjoy a terrific breakfast at Walt Disney World — even if you prefer not to have characters, and you’d rather order a la carte.
We’ll break down a few of our favorites below, and share why these spots are tops for starting your Disney Day.
Good Counter Service Options
If you are crunched — for time, money, or both — then consider some of Disney’s best Counter Service Breakfast options.
Well, here’s a new one for ya… how about starting your day UNDER THE STARS at Sci-Fi Dine-In Restaurant?
Sci-Fi Dine-In Restaurant
Yep, the perpetual evening setting of Sci-Fi Dine-In Restaurant is now the latest breakfast stop at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! This long-time, well-loved lunch and dinner spot is now offering a limited-run meal: guests can give breakfast a try at Sci-Fi Dine-In, currently available for booking from now until January 23, 2016 with seatings from 8:00 – 10:15 am. [EDITOR’S UDPATE: Please note that the trial run of breakfast at Sci-Fi Restaurant has ended, and at this point the option has not been renewed.]
Of course, this isn’t Sci-Fi’s first time serving up the most important meal of the day. For the past two years, it has played host to the Star Wars Dine-In Galactic Breakfast, a character meal held in conjunction with Star Wars Weekends. But Darth Vader and his Dark Side cronies stayed in a galaxy far, far away this go ‘round. The current breakfast offering is a non-character meal featuring pre-fixe selections.

You’re in for a real treat today as we take in breakfast at one of my favorite spots, Kona Cafe!
You’ll find Kona Cafe in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The hotel continues to undergo vast renovations, but we’re so happy to report that Kona Cafe seems to be sticking around!
Meals at this spot are pretty consistently good. Lunch at Kona can offer a welcome respite from Magic Kingdom. And dinner is a hidden gem — many swear by Kona’s Steak. But breakfast offers some serious cult favorites for Disney veterans.
Kona Cafe is located off of the center atrium at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. It’s conveniently situated for guests of both the Polynesian, and, well, anywhere! Just steps away from the Monorail, it’s a quick ride from both the Magic Kingdom and the Ticket and Transportation Center.
You may be tempted to dismiss Kona without much thought. After all, its open atmosphere makes it seem like any plain jane hotel restaurant. And I agree — it does look like a Hilton straight out of the mid-90s.
The general feel of the space is supposed to be tropical. Bold colors abound on walls and carpet, while lighter-stained wood and wrought iron round out the space.
Because it’s located off of the atrium, Imagineers have made an effort to give it sort of a garden feel. As a result, some of the lights, like these large leaf-shaped glass fixtures, mimic nature patterns.
One of my favorite decorative features are the ceiling fans that run the length of the dining room.
The carpet is very…colorful. Big, splashy exotic blooms are scattered across it. Look closely, and you may just find a familiar shape among the flowers.
Seating is a combination of round and rectangular tables. If you’re with your whole fam, this is a nice place to settle in!
The mixed seating with banquettes on one side and chairs on the other are a good compromise.
A lot of times, we make a big deal about [Read more…]
UPDATE 6/17/2015: Be Our Guest Restaurant began testing prix-fixe quick service breakfast beginning March 20 and it’s currently extended through October 3. Advance Dining Reservations for the meal opened on March 17. Breakfast hours are scheduled 8-10AM.
Be Our Guest Restaurant -- Dinner
Be Our Guest Restaurant has proven to be extraordinarily popular. It’s incredibly difficult to get a dinner advance dining reservation (ADR) a full two years after its opening. And lunch continues to be such an attraction that Disney seems to be moving toward a FastPass+ System for the quick service meal — something unprecedented.
But it’s looking more and more like we’ll all have another shot at dining in Beast’s Castle in the very near future.
Be Our Guest Restaurant to Begin Serving Breakfast in February?
We’ve been monitoring rumors forever it seems that Be Our Guest would begin serving breakfast. And it looks like that rumor is about to become a reality.
Our team has been checking daily to see if Be Our Guest is offering a breakfast ADR option…and as of today, they are! Now, before you run over and excitedly jam up the Disney website , I should mention that, while the breakfast option is showing up, it’s not bookable yet. When we try to book a table, we’re told that we can’t at this time.
But here’s what we DO know: [Read more…]
