Disney Food For Families: Steal This Idea — Mini Disney Cupcakes at Home

The next post from our Disney Food for Families Columnist, Erin Foster, focuses on one of my favorite things: cupcakes! Erin and her daughters did some experimenting to answer a question asked by a reader in a recent comment… . Here we go!

My daughters and I have been long fascinated not only with the taste of the food at Disney restaurants (yum), but also with the incredible presentation of many of the dishes — particularly the desserts. Over the years, we’ve borrowed stolen several Disney dessert presentations and adapted them for our own parties and celebrations. When we saw the recent post here about the new mini cupcakes being sold at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we knew that this was an idea just begging to be tried at home.

This is the Disney version of the mini cupcake; our goal was to see if we could make these as a sweet treat to bring to some upcoming holiday parties or perhaps give them as a little personal add-on to some [Read more…]

Snack Series: Contempo Cafe’s Black Forest Cupcake

A couple of months ago I got an email from a reader — Callie Shrekengost — urging me to try the Black Forest Cupcake at Contemporary Resort’s Contempo Cafe in Disney World. I’d seen the cupcake before, but hadn’t ever had the stomach space at the time to try it; so I was grateful to get her reminder and put it on my To-Do list for the October trip!

So, here we have a chocolate cupcake topped with swirls of vanilla buttercream frosting. The thing is simply massive — ginormous — and could easily be shared! On the very tippy top of the cupcake is a [Read more…]

Guest Review: Babycakes NYC Cupcakes at Disney World

Thanks to Leigh Caldwell for putting together this great review of Babycakes NYC, Disney World’s newest cupcake shop, which opened in Downtown Disney this weekend. Leigh writes about Walt Disney World and theme parks in general on her site, ThemeParkMom.com, and for AOL’s travel blog, Gadling.com.

My love of all things cupcake is pretty well documented online and on Twitter, so of course I was excited to hear that a branch of Babycakes NYC had opened at the Downtown Disney Marketplace.

Babycakes NYC is a vegan bakery on New York’s Lower East Side. A downtown L.A. outpost opened recently, and now a third outpost has appeared at Walt Disney World.

It occupies a corner of the former McDonald’s building, sharing space with [Read more…]

What Disney Foods Do YOU Crave?

Well, I’ve been home from Walt Disney World for two weeks now, and I’m already craving some dishes and snacks I know I’m going to have on my next trip (um…Karamell Kuche, anyone?).

So, a while back, I asked over on the Disney Food Blog Facebook Page: What Disney Dish Are You Craving Today? I got some fantastic answers! Let’s take a trip down a delicious road of favorite dishes and menu items in Walt Disney World… (Note: You’ll see some sad news about the Jiko Filet with Mac and Cheese about halfway down the page. I’m just warning you.)

A Few of the Classics…

With all the changes in Disney World’s menus lately, it’s nice to know these favorites have been around for a good long time:

This classic, simple dish has been on the menu at 50’s Prime Time Cafe in Disney’s Hollywood Studios for ages, and we’re glad it’s not going away!

Deconstructing a Karamell-Küche Cupcake

One big question I kept getting asked after posting the photos from Epcot’s new Karamell-Küche caramel store last week was: how was the cupcake?

I figured I needed a few illustrations, so here we go:

The cupcake itself is pretty large. It comes in vanilla and chocolate flavors, and the frosting [Read more…]
