Snack Series: Banana Pudding in Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Every once in a while I come across a truly unique item at a Disney counter-service location. Today, so many of the desserts and snacks are homogenous across Disney World and Disneyland, that it’s always great to find a one-of-a-kind!

Today, we’re headed to Yak and Yeti Counter Service — also known as Anandapur Local Food Cafes — in Disney’s Animal Kingdom to check out the Banana Pudding!

Yak and Yeti Counter Service Menu

Banana Pudding

OK, I totally understand your concern. Pudding can be boring. I’d skipped over this dessert many, many times before actually ordering it, too. But in this case…it’s pretty awesome!

Banana Pudding at Disney's Animal Kingdom

This dessert is not only unique to this counter service spot — it’s also delicious! Truly rich and creamy, the pudding is thick — not soupy at all.

PLUS…here’s the best part — it’s full of real bananas and built on a crust of crushed [Read more…]

Disney Snack Series: Chocolate-Covered Banana!

So, we’ve all seen (and probably eaten) those frozen chocolate-covered nanners that you can get at the Disney ice cream carts, right? But have you ever seen an unfrozen version? I hadn’t! Until I scoped out the snack cases at Big Top Treats in the Magic Kingdom last week!

Chocolate and Peanut Covered Unfrozen Banana at Big Top Treats in Magic Kingdom

Here I found a new-to-me treat — a regular old unfrozen banana covered in chocolate and peanuts! Rock on! Of course, they have a version that skips the peanuts as well if you’re just a straight banana-and-chocolate kind of person.

The no-nuts version is $3.79 and the peanuts version is $4.29. Both are available for a Disney Dining Plan snack credit.

Two versions of the unfrozen banana available at Big Top Treats

I chose the version with peanuts (extra protein, you know!) and couldn’t wait to try it.

The frozen bananas are so hard to break into, but with this you get all of the great flavors without cracking your teeth! (Plus, it takes forever to eat those frozen bananas…the unfrozen ones mean instant gratification for us Disney snack fiends.)

Chocolate and Peanut Covered Banana

The chocolate was fresh and had great flavor — it didn’t taste or feel plastic-y or artificial at all. And the banana was ripe and sweet, so no worries about starchy, “green” fruit here. In fact, I was worried that the softness of the banana might make it fall right off the stick; so if you buy this for your kiddo, it might make sense to [Read more…]

Snack Series: Monkey Cupcake at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

It is a happy day when we can tell you about a brand new cupcake! (Or at least one that’s new to us!)

HUGE thanks to DFB readers Matt and Lenore for telling me about this — and making it imperative that I head over to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort on my last Disney World Visit!

Monkey Cupcake!

One of the treats that I couldn’t wait to sample on my recent trip to Walt Disney World was the Monkey Cupcake at Old Port Royale Food Court within Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. I’d heard it had peanut butter buttercream icing (hubba hubba!!) and a surprise inside!

You might be asking at this point: so, what makes this a “monkey cupcake?” I mean, there are no little chocolate monkeys or faces on it, like you’d find on the Elephant Cupcake at Animal Kingdom’s Kusafiri Bakery and Coffee Shop

But when you cut into the moist cake, you begin to get the picture. The proof is in the pudding — or filling as it were. And the filling just happens to be chock full of bananas!

Dining in Disneyland: Making English Toffee at the Candy Palace

The candy kitchen windows are one of my favorite places to hang out. On every single Disney trip, whether it be to Disney California Adventure, Disneyland, or even just a stroll through Downtown Disney passing by Marceline’s I HAVE to peek in the window and see what the candy makers are up to.

Candy Palace in Disneyland

On a recent trip to Disneyland, I passed by Candy Palace on Main Street and noticed some adorable candy makers having way too much fun making English Toffee.

Making English Toffee

The process is a three person job. It all starts with a little rectangular piece of toffee.

Next, it’s dipped in to a bath of melted milk chocolate.

After it has a perfect coating of milk chocolate, the toffee is rolled in chopped almonds.

And for the grand finale, 12 ounces of English Toffee are

Snack Series and Recipe!: The Magic Cookie Bar at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

I have to apologize to you guys.

I have been horribly remiss in not telling you about this incredible snack yet…but I didn’t even know about it! Just goes to show there’s ALWAYS something exciting to find when it comes to Disney food!! :-)

OK, here we go! Recently, an awesome DFB reader tipped me off to an amazing find at Roaring Fork in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge — the Magic Cookie Bar.

As a big fan of Roaring Fork, I wondered how could I have missed such a thing. So on my recent trip to the World, I made it my mission to get to Wilderness Lodge and try it before any more time passed!

I have to be honest — with everything I eat when I’m in Disney World, it’s hard to completely finish everything. But this? THIS was one of the things on my recent trip that I ate in its entirety! It’s THAT good.

First off, it’s big. I mean, it may not look that big in the picture, but this is a super rich bar, chock-full of deliciousness.

Magic Cookie Bar -- Wrapped and Ready

Unwrapped, you start to get a sense of just what went into this. There’s a ton of flavor going on here, with chocolate and butterscotch chips, condensed milk, coconuts, and nuts.

And to put it over the top for me, the whole thing is [Read more…]
