First Disney World Starbucks Locations Announced!

The news is finally here! Disney has officially announced that Starbucks will take over the Main Street Bakery in Magic Kingdom and Fountain View Cafe in Epcot in 2013.

Main Street Bakery and Fountain View Cafe to become Starbucks

We’ve been wondering for nearly a year now where the Starbucks would be located at the Magic Kingdom. And as it turns out, the Main Street Bakery will be completely revamped to hold the new java shop.

According to Disney, the Bakery will close in January 2013 with Starbucks opening in early summer. At Epcot, Fountain View will close in March 2013 and reopen as a Starbucks location in midsummer.

As we saw with Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe in Disney California Adventure, the Starbucks locations will adhere as much as possible to the theme of the parks where they’re located.

For example, Magic Kingdom’s Starbucks will have an early 20th century theme to fit in with Main Street USA. Baristas will be costumed in period wear. In Epcot, the look and feel will represent the modern feel of Future World.

Also as we saw at Fiddler in DCA, the locations will offer Starbucks signature beverages along with sandwiches and baked goods.

Guest Review: Intermission Food Court Lunch/Dinner at Disney’s All Star Music Resort

Please welcome guest author Sarah Gurung with a review of the Intermission Food Court, at the All-Star Music Resort! This review will cover lunch and dinner; but stay tuned for Sarah’s breakfast review coming soon!

As a longtime reader of the Disney Food Blog, I am excited to contribute my review of a place I have visited many times: Intermission Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort. My family started visiting the World before the value resorts existed, but when they were built, All-Star Music was the first that we called “home.”

During this visit, I traveled with my mother and my one-year-old daughter. We also met up with my sister and her two-year-old daughter, so I was able to try a variety of dishes.

In my “real” (non-Disney) life, I eat vegetarian. While on vacation, I considerably loosened my self-imposed food restrictions and ate what sounded good. I will add details about vegetarian options where appropriate because many are delicious.

Atmosphere

Intermission Food Court is located in Melody Hall, the resort’s main building for check-in, concierge, check-out, shopping, and dining. The food court is open from 7 am to midnight (breakfast ends at 11am), and food is counter service or grab-and-go.

Intermission Food Court Entrance

As one might expect from a kid-friendly value resort, Intermission Food Court is a colorful and boisterous place. Upon entering, the food court counter and grab-and-go stations are to your left. The cashiers are straight ahead and serve as a buffer to the seating area and beverage/utensil/topping bars on the right.

The seating area extends the full length of the right side and is abundant. Even during busy times, we had no trouble locating a table.

Seating, featuring a mixture of both booths and tables (large and small to accommodate different size parties), is a wash of peach, purple, and turquoise. The carpet is dark and dotted with resort-appropriate stars.

Intermission Food Court Seating Area

One long wall in the seating area features a mural of semi-recognizable singers in a variety of poses. Lighting is bright, and maneuvering around the space is relatively easy. On rare occasions, I [Read more…]

UPDATED With Wine and Beer Menus: News! Be Our Guest Restaurant to Serve Beer and Wine in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

Interesting news coming out of the Magic Kingdom today about Be Our Guest Restaurant!

Sadly, I’m on vacation (yay!) and couldn’t be at the Be Our Guest Restaurant Media Event happening right now (boo!); but thanks to social media we’re getting great info to share with you!

Magic Kingdom Park No Longer “Dry”

According to several of our friends at the event, the big news is that Disney’s Magic Kingdom will now be serving alcohol for the first time ever.

Located in a *formerly* “dry” park where no alcohol was served (based on Walt’s wishes for Disneyland Park, where alcohol is only served at the private Club 33), Be Our Guest Restaurant will be serving alcoholic beer and wine for their guests.

According to Stuart McGuire, Beverage Director, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, “As part of the overall theming, we wanted to offer wine that enhances the guest experience and complements the French-inspired cuisine.”

Be Our Guest Restaurant Wine Menu

“The wines focus primarily on France’s famous wine-growing regions, including Champagne, Alsace, Loire, Rhone, Burgundy and Bordeaux,” says McGuire. Check out the full Be Our Guest Restaurant Wine and Beer Menu.

Review: NEW Tipsy Duck Drink in Epcot’s China Pavilion

There’s a new drink at the Joy of Tea stand in Epcot’s China Pavilion – Tipsy Ducks in Love!

Joy of Tea

The cast members at Joy of Tea were selling this VERY enthusiastically. It’s basically iced coffee and tea, plus whipped cream, plus a generous pour of Jim Beam, plus chocolate.

I don’t normally drink bourbon, but the cast members were so, well, enthusiastic about it, that I decided to give it a [Read more…]

It’s Official: Starbucks Lands at Disney Parks

Update: Check out the discreet integration of Starbucks into Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe!

We speculated about a Starbucks-Disney collaboration a few months ago, and it turns out the rumors are true!

For decades, one of the biggest food-related complaints about Disney parks was the lack of decent coffee (Disney for many years relied on instant NesCafe and only recently brought in a few spots where Joffrey’s Coffee was sold). Now that Starbucks is planning to join forces with the Happiest Places on Earth, coffee addicts can finally ditch the jitters. ;-)

The coffee king will show up first in Disney California Adventure this June, at the brand new Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Café. Locations will serve coffee, espresso, frappuccino, and more, and guests will also be able to nosh on signature Starbucks sandwiches, pastries, and desserts.

Other locations will be popping up soon in all four Disney World parks and Disneyland Park. Note that the Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts have served Starbucks for quite a while.

One question I have: How do you “Disney-fy” something as highly-branded as Starbucks? Starbucks locations all seem pretty consistent to me…what would a Disney version be like? The Fiddler location will be themed to the 1920’s vision of Buena Vista Street — including Spanish/Mexican architecture and baristas in 1920s-inspired attire. Other locations will be themed as well.

Are you excited? Concerned? Don’t care as long as you can finally get good coffee? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Storybook Circus as soft-opened in Disney World, and we were there to check out if there were any new eats to “write home about!”

Welcome to Storybook Circus!

We got a peek at the ONLY food being sold in this newest area of the Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland — popcorn, ice cream novelties, and cotton candy! These are being sold from an adorable circus cart very close to the entrance of the new area.

Sneak Peek! Disney’s Be Our Guest Restaurant Ballroom!

UPDATE: Read about the Opening Date for Be Our Guest Restaurant and Reservations Info!

In a great video by Disney Parks Blog, we get to see a little bit of the Imagineering that’s going into the most anticipated restaurant in the Disney World Fantasyland expansion — Be Our Guest Restaurant!

According to Disney Parks Blog, “Imagineers recently put the finishing touches on one of its major elements: a massive mural that will serve as the restaurant’s backdrop. Here, Ted shows how WDI combined digital technology with traditional artistry to create a sweeping landscape that gives guests the feeling that they really are walking into a part of the film.”

Disney World’s Be Our Guest Restaurant is scheduled to open in “Late 2012.” While we currently don’t know when reservations will be available, we do know a few great secrets about the restaurant — like what [Read more…]

Snack Review x 2: Cake Pops

Disney has had cake pops in their candy stores and bakeries for several months now, and they seem to have stuck!

Disney Food for Families columnist Erin Foster wrote an in-depth review for DFB last year on this sweet phenomenon done Disney-style.

Disney Cake Pops

But since I went ahead and tried one on a recent Disneyland visit, I figured I’d weigh in as well! Unfortunately, I was too eager to try it and cut the cake pop before taking my first pic! Sorry about that!

Slightly Marred Cake Pop

I’m pretty positive on the general look of the cake pop. I love the [Read more…]
