Review: Disneyland Hotel’s Steakhouse 55

I’m so excited to finally be writing this review. This is one of my very favorite restaurants in Disneyland (are you surprised that I love a steakhouse?), and in terms of history and excellent food, it’s a must-do.


Located in the Disneyland Hotel, Steakhouse 55 has been around for eons, though not always under its current moniker. Until about five years ago, the place was known as Granville’s, named for the wife of Disneyland Hotel creator Jack Wrather — who himself is a very complicated and interesting part of Disneyland history. And history has always been made here.

The Steakhouse 55 Lounge and Restaurant feel like they’re from another era — classic Hollywood glamour can be felt throughout the place. Big names and big deals could — and still can — be found here from time to time.

Review: The NEW Trader Sam’s in the Disneyland Hotel

Please welcome Drew Roberts, Disneyland expert and columnist at Daps Magic’s Geek’s Corner, who was lucky enough to get a peek at the Disneyland Hotel’s NEW Trader Sam’s and Tangaroa Terrace! Read on for his review!

For far too long, Disneyland has been inferior to Walt Disney World in terms of food. Sure, Disneyland has the amazing corn dogs, Bengal Barbeque skewers, Monte Cristo sandwiches and the Blue Bayou, but until recently, the rest of the food offerings have been the largely homogeneous selection of burgers, hot dogs and chicken nuggets that are often referred to as “theme park food.”

Thankfully, the tides have seemed to be changing for those of us who love the eclectic selection of food found within Walt Disney World. The menus at the Hungry Bear and Village Haus restaurants have been updated to reflect a more food savvy palate, and most recently, the openings of Tangaroa Terrace and Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar have added even more fun and delicious dining options for the Disneyland foodie.


Walking up to Trader Sam’s you are greeted by a huge run barrel welcoming you inside — through a large, wooden tiki-inspired carved door. Upon entering, you are often welcomed by the bartenders yelling at you to shut the door, and doing so, you enter the small, dimly lit bar. But this is like no bar you have ever been to before.

The story is that Trader Sam, the “head salesman” of the Jungle has decided to collect all of the artifacts that he has collected through his 55 years of world traveling, put them in one place, and invite all of his friends in for a snack and a drink.

First and foremost, the décor and atmosphere of the bar is out of this world. If you have ever loved the Jungle Cruise, original Tiki Room or the Adventurer’s Club, you will feel like you are coming home. The walls are covered in [Read more…]

Opening very soon in the Disneyland Hotel, Trader Sam’s plans to offer tropical bar fare. Menu items will include sweet and spicy Asian wings, chicken lettuce wraps, panko-crusted Chinese long beans with Sriracha mayo, tamarind-glazed pork shanks with green papaya slaw and ahi poke (sushi-grade tuna) with avocado, green onion and crispy wontons.

Did someone say Tiki Bar? Trader Sam’s – Enchanted Tiki Bar will quench your thirst with vintage island cocktails. Served in campy glasses, the Krakatoa Punch (reserve aged rum, light rum, tropical juice, almond syrup and hibiscus grenadine) will have you enjoying “island time” before you reach the bottom. News: Tangaroa Terrace and Trader Sam’s to Open in Disneyland Hotel

Tangaroa Terrace Restaurant and Trader Sam’s Bar will open in Spring 2011 as part of the Disneyland Hotel renovation. As the Disneyland Hotel keeps its nostalgic atmosphere, the new restaurant is a tribute to the Tahitian Terrace that resided in Adventureland from 1962-1993.

Interestingly, Disney World’s Polynesian Resort once had a flourishing restaurant called Tangaroa Terrace; and you’ll remember Trader Sam as the name of the Jungle Cruise’s “head salesman.”
