Disney Food Pics of the Week: Soft Serve Treats!

Summer’s coming! And we know that you’ll be looking to stay cool at Disney. And I can’t think of a much better way than by enjoying some terrific soft serve treats!

And when it comes to soft serve at Disney, you certainly have options! From Dole Whip to Root Beer Floats made with the creamy stuff, there’s no end to the variety you’ll find.

So we weren’t too surprised when we checked out pics that our members have posted on Disney Food Blog Photo Extravaganza, our Flickr group. We came away with all sorts of soft serve inspiration!

If you haven’t had a chance to check it out, head over there! But before you do, let’s take a look at some of the goodies we found while we were surfin’.

What makes a Soft Serve Ice Cream Cone even more delish? How about enjoying it with an awesome background, like Paradise Pier! I can almost feel that beautiful California sunshine coming through the pic, can’t you??

We love that Pineapple Soft Serve has become a mainstay at the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival. We expect to see the popular treat back again at the 2015 Epcot Food and Wine Festival as well!

This great pic features treats from Pineapple Promenade at this year’s Flower and Garden Festival. It really captures the contrast between the soft serve and the Sammy’s Beach Bar Red Head Macadamia Nut Flavored Rum!

First Look! 2015 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival MUST-EAT Treats!

It’s HERE!! Spring has sprung and the 2015 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival has officially begun, bringing all the topiaries, musical fun, and FOOD along with it!

Epcot Flower and Garden Must Eat Treats
We’ve been spending the day taking in the sights, and — more importantly ;) — all the tastes at every single one of the Food Booths! You can see the full menus for this year’s booths here!

For the third year running, the Flower and Garden Festival is offering Outdoor Kitchens (food booths similar to the Food & Wine Festival Marketplace booths), with a springtime focus on fresh-from-the-garden flavors.

Now, we’d like to show you some of the best of this year’s best! So, grab your passport and LET’S GO!

Botanas Botanico

Botanas Botanico has made its debut! This Outdoor Kitchen is brand new to the Festival this year, featuring South American dishes, with an emphasis on Venezuelan classics. You can find it between the France and Morocco Pavilions.

We’ve got two standouts here that we want to let you know about right away! Cachapas con Queso is a sweet yellow corn pancake topped with Farmer’s Cheese. This just-sweet-enough dish is pleasantly rich, too.

The White Corn Arepa doesn’t disappoint, either, with the tasty braised beef providing lots of bang for the buck.

That said, we’re happy to say that everything at this new booth was fresh and delicious!

Quinoa “Naanwich” and Kale Salad

Head to Urban Farm Eats for the Quinoa “Naanwich,” a nice vegetarian surprise packed with flavor, thanks to the arugula pesto and sun-dried tomatoes.

A salad as a DFB favorite? Who woulda thunk ;) ? We were pleasantly surprised by the full range of flavors presented in the Kale Salad with the dried cherries and goat cheese, along with a nice crunch from the hearty helping of almonds.

We also reeeeeeally enjoyed the Crispin Blackberry Pear Cider here, finding it fresh, and fairly dry.

It was love at first sight — and taste! — with the Ice Pop cocktail-on-a-stick at Fleur de Lys! A cold and delicious mix of Grand Marnier Peach Raspberry Liqueur, Vodka, and Iced Tea — all wrapped up in a nostalgic package!

But this year, Disney will do things a little differently.

For the first time ever, the cookbook that’s released in time for the Epcot Food and Wine Festival will feature all three Festivals that now call Epcot home.

The 2014 version of the book will combine recipes from the Epcot Food and Wine Festival, the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival, and Epcot’s latest celebration of food, Holidays Around the World.

Piggylicious Cupcake at The Smokehouse

If you woke up this morning thinking you should really have bacon AND cupcakes for breakfast, well, we’ve got the ticket! Just head over to the Smokehouse booth!

This Piggylicious cupcake gives you a bacon cupcake topped with maple frosting AND pretzels! Where do the pretzels come from? Who cares? Yum. Our team says the cake has lots of salty, smoky bacon; and the cake base is less sweet than normal yellow cake.

The maple frosting is much better than we expected, and altogether, this treat really works! Pancakes and bacon in a cupcake? Shore!!

DIY Disney Recipe: Elderflower Cocktail

If you spend any time checking out the menus of Disney restaurants, you’ll notice that St. Germain Liqueur is popping up a lot these days!

And with good reason! St. Germain is a French liqueur that’s made from elderflowers. The delicate, sweet taste is very unique and seems to be taking Disney World by storm.

Elderflower Cocktail with Pansy Garnish at Raglan Road

We’ve recently had Elderflower Cocktails at the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival (where it’s made with elderflower syrup) as well as for brunch at Raglan Road.

With flavors that remind me of grapefruit and honey, this liqueur makes for a lovely warm weather cocktail. So for a recent family gathering, we decided to give it a try!

St. Germain Cocktail, Three Ways

We opted for the small, 50 ml bottles of liqueur. Actually, the store was out of the larger bottles, or that’s the way that we would have gone! A little pricey, but sooo worth it.

The bottles [Read more…]
