Fun Find: Japanese Food Cards in Epcot

We just had an awesome review of some of the Epcot Japan pavilion’s more unique snacks, but today we’ve got something a bit different for you from the Mitsukoshi Department Store!

A while back, Heather and I were exploring the Japan pavilion when the idea struck that we must compile a portfolio of these fun, food-centric greeting cards and postcards!

Fruit Cards

First up, a few fruit-focused cards… the watermelon and pineapple ones have a little move-able, pull-out feature and wish the recipient “Happy Summer”! (Ah… seems so far away right now, doesn’t it?!)

Disney Food for Families: Getting Kids to Try New Foods at Walt Disney World

It’s no secret that my daughter Louisa is more than a little produce averse. There was a period of about four years when NO fruit or vegetable crossed her lips, and even now at age 12 she still has to be cajoled into having more than a bite or two of something as innocuous as sweet potato or banana.

So you can imagine my surprise when, on a recent trip to the Animal Kingdom’s Yak & Yeti restaurant, she consumed nearly the entire plate of wok-fried green beans we had ordered for the table. It was one of those parenting moments where you hold your breath and move slowly so as to avoid breaking the spell.

Those Yak & Yeti yummies didn’t turn Louisa into an inveterate bean eater, but she is now occasionally willing to nibble on a tempura string bean if we’re out for Japanese. Based on our prior track record with legumes, I’m going to count that solidly in the win column.

The Theme Park Food Effect

What was it about the Yak & Yeti beans that made Louisa such a fan? Yes, they were quite tasty, and yes, the green part was handily obfuscated by a crunchy, yumtastic fried breading coating; but we had tried similar ploys in the past to no avail. My theory is that the Yak & Yeti beans were flavored by the spice of (cue the orchestra) The Theme Park Food Effect.

Cars Land Restaurants: What We Know So Far

As we get closer to the June 15, 2012 opening of the new Cars Land in Disney California Adventure, we wanted to take a look at what we know so far about the Radiator Springs’ restaurants.

After all, we’ve come along way in gathering details about these venues since our earlier reports. And while we’re not holding our collective breath, we’re still crossing our fingers that someday we’ll see an announcement for a drive-in type restaurant similar to the Sci-Fi Dine-In at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World.

For now… let’s take a look at what we DO know is coming in just under two months.

Flo’s V8 Cafe

This is the hot-spot when traveling along historic Route 66! Guest Review: Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory Breakfast

Join us in welcoming guest author Catie Hiltz with a review of the food court at Port Orleans Resort French Quarter in Disney World! Yep — this is where you can get those one-of-a-kind beignets!! But Catie’s got some other treats in mind…start your morning with one of these yummy eats!

My husband and I loved staying at Port Orleans French Quarter, and found Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory (the resort’s counter-service food court) to be a great place to grab a bite to eat before or after spending some time at the parks. They carry all the standards for breakfast, from the always delicious Mickey waffles, to omelets, platters, and pancakes.

Atmosphere

The resort itself is New Orleans themed, and has a relaxed, romantic feeling. The Food Factory fits right in with the theme — it’s large and open, and even during the breakfast rush, it’s loud but not deafening. It didn’t feel crowded at all.

2011 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival Foodie Events

It’s not quite time for that other Festival that foodies mark on their calendars ;). While we wait (and wait) for October, there are some other fun exhibits to explore in Walt Disney World!

For the 18th year, Epcot will be hosting the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival from March 2-May 15, 2011, and you can find the festival guide here. Foodies will find some delightful exhibits, which we’ve detailed below.

Managing Your Diet Plan in Disney World: Low-Carb Diets

One thing I haven’t been able to master is staying on a specialized diet plan in Disney World. Luckily, I have a few friends who have been able to be diet plan superstars while on vacation, and they’ve agreed to share some of their secrets with you!
