Food Ingredient Lists at the Beach Club Marketplace!

Erin Foster is the Disney Food for Families columnist and a behind-the-scenes guru here at Disney Food Blog! Check out more of her posts here.

Eating in Disney World with a special diet just got a little easier!

I was at Walt Disney World last weekend participating in the marathon festivities. I completed the 1/2 marathon, my first distance race ever. Whoooooot!

We stayed at the Beach Club resort. As a little post race reward, I stopped in at the Marketplace for something sweet. It’s OK to carbo load after the race too, right? :-) While checking out the offerings in the bakery case, I noticed a little booklet hanging on a hook attached to the case.

Beach Club bakery case. Note the hook on the middle right of the case.

This turned out to be a collection of laminated cards listing the ingredients found in every Disney-baked item in the store, both those in the regular bakery case and those in the refrigerator case.

Close up of the cards.

Items with ingredient cards included muffins, brownies, cupcakes, cannolis, carrot cake, caramel pretzels, cheesecake, cookies, bagels, croissants, and much more — over [Read more…]

Guest Review: Vegan and Gluten-Free Meal at Remy on the Disney Dream

Let’s welcome back guest reviewer, Cheryl Perlmutter, with another restaurant review from the Disney Dream. This time, she dines at Remy and shares her vegan meal with our readers. Thanks, Cheryl!

In February, I went on the Disney Dream as part of the WDW Radio Cruise group. When I dine out, I request vegan meals and I am also gluten intolerant. Before boarding the ship, I contacted my travel agency and Disney Special Services. I noted my allergies and dietary needs and made requests.

Since I was planning an anniversary dinner on my May 2011 cruise, I decided to do a test run dinner at Remy with my friend Dana. At dinner the previous night, I contacted the restaurant manager who had been assigned to help with my special diet. I alerted him that I had dinner planned at Remy, and he notified Remy that I would be dining there the following night.

That night, dinner at Remy was excellent – the staff was very accommodating. The cheese course felt awkward as I was not eating, and my suggestion would be for them to get vegan cheeses for the cheese course portion of the meal.

The best dish was the Garlic Potato Puree, while the worst dish was the spaghetti squash as the flavor just wasn’t there.

Guest Review: Special Diets Dining Aboard the Disney Dream

Join us in welcoming Cheryl Perlmutter with a review of dining aboard the Disney Dream with special diets.

Recently, I went on the Disney Dream as part of the WDW Radio Cruise group. As you may know from prior posts by my husband, Todd, when I dine out, I request vegan meals and I am also gluten intolerant. Before the cruise, I contacted my travel agency and Disney Special Services. I noted my allergies, dietary needs and made special requests.

Disney Dream docked at Castaway Cay

Day 1

When I boarded the ship, I did forget to check in at D-Lounge to meet the restaurant manager, as my travel agent recommended. Instead, I headed to Enchanted Garden for my first meal. The server introduced me to the chef. I noted my dietary needs and inquired about dessert which I had specifically requested in my letter to special services. The chef said [Read more…]

Walt Disney World Recognized for Providing Options to Guests With Special Diets

Babycakes NYC Cupcakes in Downtown Disney are perfect for many special diets

Guests traveling to Walt Disney World with special diets rave about the exemplary attention that they received while dining at WDW restaurants. We often hear that WDW listened to their concerns and responded with menu choices that were not only safe but also delicious.

So, it’s not surprising that Walt Disney Parks and Resorts have been recognized for their dedication to providing options for guests dining with food allergies by the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network. Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resort accepted the FAAN Corporate Leadership award.

In 2009 alone, WDW accommodated [Read more…]
