Spotted! Olaf’s Perfect Sundae Day at Disney World’s Beaches and Cream

So, remember a few weeks ago when we announced that some new treats celebrating the “Frozen Fever” film short would be hitting the scene at BOTH Disneyland and Disney World?

Frozen fans on both coasts were given a few new sweet snacks to look forward to, including Anna’s Happy Birthday Cupcake and even a slice of Anna’s Birthday Ice Cream Cake at a few select Table Service restaurants.

Well, with many thanks to awesome DFB Reader Jessie J., we can share a picture and mini review for you today of another of the Frozen Fever Treats: Olaf’s Perfect Sundae Day! She grabbed it at Beaches and Cream Soda Shop — the favorite ice cream stop for many a guest at Disney World :) .

News: “Frozen Fever” Sweet Treats at Disneyland and Disney World

So… Frozen Fun ends in Disneyland on May 15th, and Frozen Summer Fun LIVE won’t return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios until June 17th. That’s one full Frozen-free month… What’s an Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf fan to do?!?

What will we do when there's no Frozen Fun?!

What will we do when there’s no Frozen Fun?!

Fret not, Frozen fans! In the downtime between the two events, Disney is releasing a few treats in honor of “Frozen Fever,” the film short that can currently be seen on the big screen prior to showings of the live-action “Cinderella” film.

As in the film short, these treats go about the task of celebrating Anna’s birthday… and what’s a birthday celebration without a little cake? Anna’s Happy Birthday Cupcake is a vanilla cupcake with blue buttercream frosting, topped with marshmallows, snowflake candies, and a white chocolate Olaf.

At Disneyland, you’ll want to check spots like the Jolly Holiday Bakery, Market House, Pacific Wharf Cafe, Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe, and The Coffee House.

While the cupcakes are already available at Disneyland, starting April 8th, Disney World guests can check various eateries scattered across property, in parks and resorts alike. Altogether, twelve restaurants will carry the cupcakes in WDW, including Main Street Bakery and Gaston’s Tavern in the Magic Kingdom, Starring Rolls Cafe and ABC Commissary in Hollywood Studios, and Sunshine Seasons and Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe in Epcot.

Resort restaurants  that will carry the cupcake include BoardWalk Bakery, Beach Club Marketplace, Contempo Cafe, Gasparilla Island Grill, Landscape of Flavors and The Mara.

Looking for something a little more frozen to celebrate the cast of Frozen? Olaf’s Perfect Sundae Day features birthday-cake flavored ice cream topped with hot fudge, mint marshmallows, brownie pieces (!), whipped cream, and sprinkles.

Those mint marshmallows look a lot like the ones currently available to enjoy with your Warm Hugs Hot White Hot Cocoa over at Olaf’s Snow Fest in Disneyland!

At Disneyland, the Sundae is available at Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor and Clarabelle’s.

And again, starting April 8th, Disney World guests will find it at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, Hollywood Scoops, and Beaches & Cream.

Review: Frozen Summer Fun and Food at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

UPDATE: Originally slated to run until September 1st, Frozen Summer Fun has been extended through September 28, 2014!

Perhaps you’ve heard of a moderately successful Disney film called Frozen? ;)

Frozen at DHSWell, it’s time to celebrate with some Frozen Summer Fun at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

Frozen Summer Fun!

Frozen Summer Fun!

And there is so much to do! Your first stop might be belting out “Let It Go” with Anna and Elsa at For the First Time In Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration!

Elsa and Anna Letting It Go!

Elsa and Anna Letting It Go!

Or maybe you’ll head straight over to Frozen Funland, where you can try your hand (or, umm, feet?) at skating on the indoor ice rink. Or you can do what I did and enjoy watching other people skate in your place ;) .

You’ll want to make sure your Take-Along Olaf is snapping plenty of selfies!

Or maybe just take some time to gaze at the gently falling snow covering the pine– I mean, palm trees.

Let it SNOW!!

Let it SNOW!!

No matter which way you turn, there’s all sorts of Frozen Fun to be had, so you might need to refuel with a snack or two!

Several classic Disney Park snacks – such as Krispy Treats and Frosted Cookies, as well as a newcomer, Brownie Pops — have been spruced up for the occasion in hues of “Frozen” white and blue at the Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post (special for the event, you’ll find it in the Streets of America section), and Sweet Spells.

The Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post is the neighbor to Frozen Funland, the already-famous spot that includes the ice skating rink as well as the Sweet Treat Bar.

I know the choice of Hot Cocoa in July might not top your list, but they do keep it fairly chilly in there for the rink. Plus, the addition of Toasted Marshmallow flavor makes it a bit more enticing, no?

The Sweet Treat Bar is one of several spots around Hollywood Studios where you can grab the specialty cupcakes for Frozen Summer Fun: the Elsa Vanilla Cupcake with Buttercream Icing, the Anna Chocolate Cupcake with Buttercream Icing, and the Olaf Carrot Cake Cupcake with Cream Cheese Icing.

New! “Frozen” Food Comes to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the Summer!

We have more Frozen food news for you out of Disney’s Hollywood Studios! (Frozen food! Get it? Ha!) Last week, we told you about the Frozen Summer Fun Package — complete with Dessert Party!

Frozen at DHS

Today, we’re back with our very first look at some of the Frozen-themed treats that you can find throughout the Park!

The Studios bunch continues to delight guests with all kinds of ways to celebrate the epic success of the Disney animated film Frozen this summer. Perfect, right? Who doesn’t love a cool breeze on a HOT Florida day?

And in addition to super cool ;-) attractions like ice skating, guests can also snack and drink their way through Arendelle!

Let’s start with a few refreshing drinks! The one that we’re most excited about is the “Let It Glow”! This non-alcoholic cocktail will be perfect for the whole family! A refreshing concoction of Pineapple Juice, Grenadine, and Ginger Ale — it comes with a fun souvenir Glow Cube. I can’t wait to try this one!

"Let It Glow" Non-Alcoholic Cocktail

“Let It Glow” Non-Alcoholic Cocktail

For grownups, there are two fruity options that come with an extra kick — the Summer Berry Margarita and the Blue Dream. While the Margarita features the fruits of summer, the Blue Dream is a magical mix of Citrus Vodka, Blue Curacao, Peach Schnapps, Sweet-and-Sour Mix, and Pineapple Juice. And since both of the adult beverages come with a Glow Cube as well, everybody’s happy!

You’ll find all three daily from 4-10 p.m. at Animation Bar and Idol Bar.

But WAIT until you see the snacks!!! They clearly have my number with this one. Over at

You Know You’re Eating in Disney World If… (Part Three!)

We had a lot of fun with our first two sets of “You Know You’re Eating in Disney World if…” posts, and we couldn’t help putting together one more! (Check out “You Know You’re Eating in Disney World When… Part I“, and “You Know You’re Eating in Disney World When… Part 2!”)

Read on to find out how dining in Disney World might be a little bit different than your typical mealtime!

Are any of the items on our list ringing your bell? Let us know in the comments how you know that –

You Know You’re Eating in Disney World If…

1. You buy the popcorn just to get the container.

Because Everybody needs a little Dumbo purse. Right?

DUMBO!!!!

Style with Dumbo

2. You see a rat in the restaurant…and you want to take a picture with it.

Everybody say, “Cheeeeeeze!” (What? Too much?)

Review: Hollywood Scoops at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

OK, let’s be totally honest here (this is just between you and me, of course…). I’ve never ordered a hand-scooped ice cream cone in Disney World. NO KIDDING! (What can I say, I always prefer that ice cream cookie sandwich!)

Yep — until my last visit to Hollywood Scoops in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I was ice-cream-cone-less. But this is no longer the case, my friends… Hollywood Scoops to the rescue!

Hollywood Scoops

Atmosphere

Nestled between the Hollywood Tower Hotel and Sunset Ranch Market, both themed to the late 1930’s, this brightly-colored stand fits perfectly into the World War II-era style of the Boulevard. You just want to stop here, right?

Hollywood Scoops from Second Angle

Even Scoops’ saucer-shaped light fixtures feature a scalloped edge, which was popular with early mid-century designers during the late 1930s and early 1940s. I love these!

Hollywood Scoops Light

And how cute is this little guy?? So many random “mascots” for restaurants in Disney World…

Hollywood Scoops Mascot

SO — because it’s got a fun theme and is located right on the corner of Awesome Ride and Awesomer Ride (Rock n Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror), lines for this spot are [Read more…]

Review: Unexpected Sundaes at Hollywood Scoops

Beneath the Tower of Terror’s ominous shadow at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, you’ll find the fun blue and pink sign for Hollywood Scoops Ice Cream!

Now, after seeing the menu recently, I could NOT believe I’d never tried the APPLE CRISP SUNDAE!! Did you know that was there and not tell me?!? ;-)

I love all things apple crisp, so I couldn’t wait to high-tail it over there and snag this snack on my next trip!

Atmosphere

This little ice cream stand at the corner of Sunset Ranch Market channels art deco retro Hollywood in style and decor.

The lines here are often long, but since it’s one of the only places around where you can get your hand-scooped ice cream fix, it’s usually worth the wait.

Eats

I begged Matt from Studios Central to meet me in DHS (what better way to explore Hollywood Studios food than with the expert?), and we decided to sample both the Brownie Sundae and that Apple Crisp treasure.

At least I was [Read more…]

Disney Ice Cream Gallery

July is National Ice Cream Month!!!

And since Sunday was National Ice Cream Day, we’ve put together a gallery of some of our favorite chilly treats from Disney parks and resorts! (Yes, you have permission to have ice cream for breakfast.)

We know we’re not covering everything, and we’d love it if you would leave us a comment mentioning your favorite ice cream-based dessert in a Disney restaurant. Can’t wait to find out what your choices are! :-)

So now, without further ado, here’s where to go to get some of our favorite sweet-cold treats in our favorite theme parks!

The Plaza Ice Cream Sundae

Scoops of vanilla ice cream drizzled with hot fudge is then covered in whipped cream when you order this Plaza Ice Cream Sundae. There’s not just one, but many crowning cherries on this divine treat.  And that’s all before you get to the crunch of a delicious waffle bowl (if you even make it that far…we didn’t)!

Okay, it’s served in a plastic bowl, which makes it a little less decadent but the crispy waffle bowl will make up for the lack of glassware. Got spare time while waiting curb-side for the parade? Grab one of these little beauties before staking out your piece of pavement! (Or, better yet, let someone else stake it out for you, then head over to the Main Street Ice Cream Parlor to snag one of your own.)

Location: Main Street Ice Cream Parlor

And don’t forget to pick up this little favorite at the Plaza, too! A Mickey Ear ice cream cone!

Dole Whip Float

This is practically a food staple at WDW. Hey, it’s a daily fruit serving, right?! The Dole Whip float is soft serve treat with pineapple juice and should be on your Magic Kingdom touring plan.

No visit to Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom is complete without a Dole Whip. Before your flight on Aladdin’s Magic Carpets, sit for a spell and give your taste buds a sensational journey!
