News: Mobile Order Arrives at Hollywood Studios with Backlot Express

Hollywood Studios is now offering Mobile Order!

This process, which debuted at Animal Kingdom’s Satu’li Canteen in May, gives guests the opportunity to to pre-order and pre-pay for meals at select Counter Service locations around Disney World via the My Disney Experience app. Once you arrive at the restaurant? You simply notify the restaurant of your arrival on the app and go straight to pick up your food! (You can learn about how the entire process works from start to finish here.)

The process has rolled out at Counter Service restaurants across Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, and Epcot. And yesterday, the fourth and final park — Hollywood Studios — joined the lineup, starting with Backlot Express!

News: Starring Rolls Cafe in Hollywood Studios Closing February 5th

Say it ain’t so…

Actually, those are the same words that came to mind when Writer’s Stop — a unique little coffee and pastry shop that used to be open in Hollywood Studios — closed a few months ago to make way for construction of the future Toy Story and Star Wars lands.

Only this time, these words apply to yet another beloved pastry stop in Hollywood Studios: Starring Rolls Cafe, located on the intersection of Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards.

While Starring Rolls IS open today from 9:00 am – 3:00PM, we were told when we were in the shop recently that starting February 5th, 2017, the location will be shuttered.

Here are the details: Starring Rolls Cafe is, indeed, closed starting tomorrow, February 5th. The Cast Members — who will be moved to other locations — have not been informed as to whether or not the spot will reopen in the future.

Wow. While Writer’s Stop was known and loved primarily for one snack above all else, the Carrot Cake Cookie, but I don’t even know where to begin with Starring Rolls. How can I possibly narrow down from ALL the favorites that have come from Starring Rolls over the years? [Read more…]

First Look and Review! PizzeRizzo Now Open in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

PizzeRizzo is now OPEN for business in Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

This Counter Service eatery served its last pizza pie as Toy Story Pizza Planet in January of this year.

Throughout most of 2016 a HUGE makeover has been taking place, transforming this space that was once filled with visions of Little Green Men and arcade games into an establishment owned-and-operated by none other than Rizzo the Rat of Muppets fame!

Located in what is now known as the Muppets Courtyard section of the park, PizzeRizzo is at long last ready to welcome you and yours to the (literal) party! So join us for our very first visit to The Famous Original PizzeRizzo!!

Welcome to PizzeRizzo!

News: Food and Beverage Marketplace Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Okay, so there are PLENTY of changes happening in Disney’s Hollywood Studios that you probably know about already. For instance, construction is underway for the future Toy Story and Star Wars Lands, and that’s resulted in the closure of several eateries around the park (most recently, we said goodbye to Writer’s Stop).

But you may not be aware of some of the more recent changes at the park. Perhaps you missed the announcement of an all-new holiday spectacularJingle Bell, Jingle BAM! — which will debut on November 14th. [Read more…]

Remembering Writer’s Stop in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Well, we had hoped against hope that it wouldn’t happen… but it has.

Last week, we said goodbye to the Writer’s Stop in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

In order to make way for the construction of the future Star Wars and Toy Story Lands, the closure of the Streets of America section of the park began in April, resulting in the removal of several eateries in the area like Studio Catering Co., High Octane Refreshments, and Herbie’s Drive-In. The beloved little Writer’s Stop, however, escaped the first round of closures.

It wasn’t without a change of its own, though. In April, Writer’s Stop began operating as a de facto lounge for guests awaiting their Advance Dining Reservation for the neighboring Sci-Fi Dine-In Restaurant instead of as the pastry, coffee, and book store it was best known as over the years.

Through the changes, the Writer’s Stop was a small corner of peaceful respite during a very busy park day. (Since the Streets of America section of the park was an assemblage of building false fronts and film sets, many guests would pass right on by Writer’s Stop, assuming it was more of the same.) Imagineering Fun: Construction Walls in Disney’s Hollywood Studios (This Post is Not as Boring as it Sounds in the Title)

Okay, let’s face it: construction walls covering up refurbishment areas in Disney World are something we’re pretty used to seeing. They cover everything from the upcoming Frozen Ever After attraction in the former home of Epcot’s Maelstrom to Avatar Land in Animal Kingdom to the ongoing transformation of Disney Springs, and then some.

And we’re bound to spot more and more very soon as Disney’s Hollywood Studios expands to add both Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land.

Review: Black Forest Milkshake at Min and Bill’s Dockside Diner

Min and Bill’s has done it again!

We are back at Hollywood Studios’ very own Dockside Diner for this season’s specialty milkshake. You may recall a few of the milkshake gems that have made the rounds at this unassuming spot, like the scrumptious Caramel Apple, the creative Cinnamon Sweet Churro, and the festive Red Velvet Peppermint Shake in honor of the holidays.

Nowadays we can’t walk into Hollywood Studios without stopping by Min and Bill’s to check out the latest concoction, because they’ve made the hunt pretty fun by changing the seasonal shake offering on a fairly frequent basis.

Things had changed up yet again on our most recent trip with the Black Forest Milkshake.

So, who’s ready to do some seasonal shake sipping with me?

Atmosphere

Min and Bill’s Diner is located inside the “S.S. Down the Hatch” on Echo Lake in Hollywood Studios.

Review: Fried Green Tomato Sandwich at Fairfax Fare in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

EDITOR’S UPDATE: Now that Rosie’s All-American Cafe is reopen from its refurbishment, the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich is now being served there instead of Fairfax Fare. Rosie’s All-American is also located in the Sunset Ranch Market.

Welcome back to Fairfax Fare in Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

Fairfax Fare is part of Sunset Ranch Market: a string of Counter Service spots on Sunset Boulevard, which also includes Anaheim Produce, Hollywood Scoops, Catalina Eddie’s, and Rosie’s All-American Cafe.

Altogether, they serve just about the full array of typical Counter Service favorites, from pizza and burgers to ice cream and grab-and-go snacks.

Fairfax Fare in particular is known for “Smoked Specialties” such as spareribs and chicken dishes. In fact, it’s quite the carnivore’s destination, when you think about it. So it was with definite curiosity that we tried a more recent addition to the menu, which just so happens to be a vegetarian entree: the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich.

Atmosphere

Fairfax Fare, with its simple setting and ordering windows blends right in with the other Sunset Ranch Market eateries along Sunset Boulevard.

Of course, even though it blends in with the typical scene, it does stand out a bit more at the moment due to its next door neighbors — Catalina Eddie’s and Rosie’s All-American Cafe — currently undergoing refurbishments. (They’re anticipated to reopen on November 20th). [Read more…]
