Guest Review: Aulani Eats and Off-Site Treats

in front of the Lava Shack

Join us in welcoming guest author Beth Osborn with a tour of Eats at Disney’s Aulani Resort and Spa in Oahu. We’ve also got some great tips about eating at non-Disney spots around the resort! Brace yourselves — there’s Dole Whip, Shave Ice, Plate Lunch, and more — ahead! Don’t forget to check out Aulani restaurant info and menus here.

Arriving to Aulani on October 15, my husband Kev and I selected familiar WDW items — refillable mugs! We purchased purple and blue refillable mugs, which have an Aulani design that matches the beige wallpaper in the halls of the hotel. Red and green options were also available.

Even though the mugs are more expensive at Aulani, we felt we got our money’s worth at $18.99 each over the week we were there.

We had dinner at Ama Ama — Kev’s salt crusted fish was like nothing we’d ever seen before, with a completely removable crust. He said it was very moist.

Disney Food Pics of the Week: “Don’t Eat That Yet!”

Every amateur food photographer (and their families and loved ones) are very familiar with the phrase, “Wait! Don’t eat that yet!” :) Our meals get cold, we get odd looks as we position our food as close to the natural light as possible (not a comfortable task when your table isn’t by the window…), and our family and friends roll their eyes more often than not, but that’s the price we pay for a hobby!

Here are a few fun pics that show that art and style can follow an eager first bite or use a family member anticipating their dish as a fun background!

First, we begin with a favorite warm weather treat — the Mickey Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Sandwich! Photographer: JLovely

This gorgeous shot offers an inside peek into a cult favorite — the sweet cream cheese pretzels found in Disney parks! Photographer: Chrissy Field

I love this pic, as Kristen’s husband is anxiously awaiting his first bite of dessert at Rose and Crown Pub and Dining Room in Disney World! Photographer: Kristen Kirk VanTassle

As always, thank you to the photographers who have submitted these photos to the Disney Food Blog Photo Extravaganza on Flickr! Come join us!

Ice Cream Double Take

You might think that all of the Disney parks sell the same ice cream treats — Mickey Premium Bars, Strawberry Bars, Itzakadoozie Pops, etc. But, would you believe, it looks like not all of the ice cream stands sell the same products!

I did a little experiment and took photos of ice cream stand menus in each park. Here are the results:
