Dining in Disneyland Review: The Yule Log

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… Yep, seasonal treats are already aplenty at The Disneyland Resort! And thank goodness, because I’ve been dying to try the Plaza Inn Yule Log Cake since I first learned about it on Guy Fieri’s Disney Holiday Special two years ago.

For whatever strange reason I didn’t get to it last year, so I vowed to myself that this year it would be my first treat of the season. On December 1st, just 3 days after it appeared in the parks, it was Yule Log time. I knew that Disneyland’s hot Yule Log spot was the Plaza Inn on Main Street, so on my recent visit, I went straight there.

The Yule Log cake was easy to find; you practically run into it upon entering the restaurant. It’s on display in the center of the room at the salad/dessert station. There are, however, none for the taking; you must ask for it and it is taken out of a small refrigerator behind the glass.

Now, the first thing I noticed was that the Yule Log cake this year is “Chocolate Chestnut.”  As far as I know, the last few years the Yule Log has been [Read more…]

Review: Disneyland’s Plaza Inn (Fried Chicken!)

One of Disneyland’s most coveted meals is the fantastic fried chicken at the Plaza Inn on the corner of Main Street and Tomorrowland!

While this location is a table-service character buffet (serving Breakfast With Minnie and Friends) in the morning, it switches to a counter service buffet in the afternoon and evening.

5 (New to Me) Disneyland Discoveries I Couldn’t Wait To Share

Well, I’m going to be honest with you. I’m looking through the thousands of pictures I took over my 6-day trip to Disneyland and I want to write about ALL of it RIGHT NOW!

The Hungry Bear Blueberry Pie is a Thing of Beauty

Since I obviously can’t do that, and I can’t bring all of you over to my living room to look through a slide show (we don’t have enough Doritos), I’ve decided to highlight five of my favorite discoveries here. I know that some of these are already near and dear to you lucky local Disneylanders, but they were new to me on this trip, and I loved ‘em.

Each of these will be showcased in detail in longer review posts coming up over the next few months, but I couldn’t wait to share some of my personal new favorites with you ASAP!

Red Velvet Roulade

Over at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen we found plenty of new favorites. From the beignets to the garlic cheese bread, almost everything we tried was a winner.

But I have to say we were very pleased that we switched our dessert order last minute to this Red Velvet Roulade. Moist, rich red velvet cake stuffed with incredibly creamy, tangy cream cheese frosting. The perfect ending to a great meal.

Plaza Inn Fried Chicken

I know — you’re shocked that I’ve never tried this before! I am, too! What an incredible piece of poultry this is.

Review: Disneyland Plaza Inn’s Breakfast with Minnie and Friends

The Plaza Inn in Disneyland can be found on the corner of Main Street and Tomorrowland, but there’s nothing futuristic about it! The Victorian setting features a fun buffet breakfast in the morning (with characters!), and some fantastic counter-service cafeteria-style food in the afternoon and evening (they say the fried chicken is to die for).

Front of Restaurant

The Plaza Inn Breakfast with Minnie and Friends is the only character meal inside Disneyland Park, so it’s a great one to start with if you’re planning to do the day in Disneyland and you’d like to get a hearty breakfast.

On our way inside the restaurant, you’ll pass some cute outdoor seating. It’s primarily used during the lunch and dinner meals, though; most breakfast guests will sit in the opulent indoor dining room with its [Read more…]
