Review: Frozen Ever After Dessert Party at Epcot!

These days, if there’s a Nighttime Spectacular at a Disney World park, there’s bound to be a Dessert Party to go with it! These extra-ticket events have become a popular splurge option for guests who want some sweets to go along with the fabulous nighttime shows (not to mention the ease of reserving a prime viewing spot without waiting an hour before the fireworks begin).

Recently I reviewed the Happily Ever After Dessert Party at Magic Kingdom; but the Frozen Ever After Dessert Party kicked off in Epcot in July, so I wanted to get in on that action to relax and unwind after my VERY full day covering the Best of the Fest at the 2017 Epcot Food and Wine Festival.

‘Cuz that’s how I roll. Check it out with me!

You may recall that for the past few years, guests could reserve the Sparkling IllumiNations Dessert Party, which also featured a dessert buffet and a reserved area for IllumiNations viewing.

But in July, Epcot replaced the Sparkling Party with the current Frozen theme. Now, look: we know some of you are completely Frozen-ed out. We hear you. But your kid may not be just yet. And this new party includes one neat perk. It still features plenty of desserts, and it still offers a great view of the show. But now, an after-hours ride on Frozen Ever After is included once the smoke clears from IllumiNations! Review: Happily Ever After Fireworks Dessert Party in Magic Kingdom

Who doesn’t love capping off a night at Disney World with a Fireworks spectacular? I know I do, whether I’m standing shoulder-to-shoulder with literally thousands of other guests in the Hub of Magic Kingdom or taking it all in from the balcony at California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

But there is one thing that can make a nighttime show even better…

Desserts at the Happily Ever After fireworks dessert party

And that’s DESSERT. Better yet, make that plural: DESSERTS.

That’s where Fireworks Viewing Parties come in! At present Disney is offering the Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party at Hollywood Studios, and the Frozen Ever After Dessert Party at Epcot, which pairs desserts and a ride on the Frozen Ever After attraction with a showing of IllumiNations.

But on my last trip, I booked what might be the highest in demand of them all: the Happily Ever After Dessert Party (technically named the Fireworks Dessert Party) at Magic Kingdom. [Read more…]

Must-Eat Snacks at The Mara in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge (Now Including JUNGLE JUICE SLUSH!)

Boy, do I have a fun list for you today!

We’re taking on a few Must-Eat Snacks at The Mara in Animal Kingdom Lodge! This counter service restaurant serves up several classic dishes as you might expect (like Chicken Breast Nuggets and Burgers). But in keeping with the wonderfully immersive theming of the Lodge, you’ll also find unique African-inspired dishes like the tasty African Potjie Stew and Soups of the Day (I love it when the Coconut Curry Chicken Soup comes up on the rotation!).

Even in addition to some of those items, though, there are still a few nearly-unique-to-Mara finds (you’ll see what I mean by that soon) that aren’t necessarily African-inspired, but equally as tasty. And those land on our Mara Must-Eat Snacks list! Plus, they are all available for a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan!

So let’s start with with a VERY special item that just made its Mara debut!

Frozen Jungle Juice

Oh, joy!! We feared we’d lost the Jungle Juice Slushy for good when it disappeared from the menu at Animal Kingdom’s Mahindi, but a few weeks ago it made a surprise return. Better yet, it’s now available in TWO spots, since it’s at The Mara now, too!

The Mara Frozen Beverages

The Mara Frozen Beverages

Even though it’s called the Jungle Juice Frozen Beverage, it’s still that same awesome mix of Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava juices that is also known as POG Juice or Liliko’i Juice for breakfast in the Polynesian’s ‘Ohana and Kona Cafe.

Review: Chip N’ Dale’s Harvest Feast Breakfast at Garden Grill Restaurant in Epcot

We are headed into The Land Pavilion in Walt Disney World’s Epcot today for one of our favorite character meals at Garden Grill Restaurant!

This spot may feel a little dated in a way…but we prefer to think of it as retro. ;-) Disney’s (Orlando’s!!) only rotating restaurant is still tops for the coolness factor of the, you know, rotation. I can remember going to this restaurant when I was a little kid — it was fancy-pants back then (with sculpted Mickey butter!), but the nostalgia factor is high here for Epcot babies. Add in some pretty delicious food, and you’re doing even better. AND then — characters! Even Mickey! So it’s probably sort of easy to see why we like it.

Recently, our Dining in Disneyland expert and friend of DFB Heather Sievers travelled to Walt Disney World for a visit. Among their many culinary adventures, her family opted to visit Garden Grill Restaurant for breakfast one morning.

Let’s tag along and see how it went!

Atmosphere

Garden Grill Restaurant is located within The Land Pavilion in Epcot’s Future World West.

This building is a serious multitasker. You’ll find three different attractions housed here: Soarin, Living with the Land, and The Circle of Life. All have different entrances, which are accessible as you travel down ramps circling either side of the round building’s perimeter. [Read more…]

New DFB Video: Jungle Juice Slushy at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Looking for a seriously refreshing drink in Disney’s Animal Kingdom? Look no further than the Jungle Juice Slushy at Mahindi! It’s the next delicious stop on the DFB YouTube Channel train!

Jungle Juice (aka Lilikoi Juice at the Polynesian, aka POG Juice at other spots) has long been a breakfast favorite of mine. And I was over-the-moon excited when I first found it in slushy form a while back at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It’s the perfect refreshing treat as you’re taking in the exotic sights, sounds, and flavors of this special park.

Dining in Disneyland: Jungle Cruise Sunrise Safari Breakfast

When I first heard about the new Disneyland Resort Premium Experiences, I thought, “Hmmmm… These could be very interesting and VERY fun!”  So far there have been two offerings, The Mystical Spirits of the Blue Bayou Dinner and The Jungle Cruise Sunrise Safari Breakfast.

My friend and I recently treated ourselves to the Jungle Cruise Sunrise Safari Breakfast and it was an amazing experience.  My visit took place during the Disney Holidays Season, so the Jungle Cruise was transformed into the Jingle Cruise. Hence, my festive outfit, which you’ll see later.

#OnTheList: ‘Ohana Character Breakfast at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

DisneyFoodBucketList 8-018
This post is part of the DFB #OnTheList series, where we feature eats you’ve GOT to have while you’re at Disney! Let us know what’s on YOUR Disney Food Bucket List @DisneyFoodBlog #OnTheList!

Writing about Disney Food — all of it — well, it’s kinda the point of this blog. But I am never happier than when I can share one of my truly favorite meals with you.

And ‘Ohana’s Best Friends Character Breakfast definitely qualifies! Let’s take a closer look at this experience as we head into the Great Ceremonial House and see why ‘Ohana Breakfast is definitely #OnTheList!

Atmosphere

Recently, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort underwent a lengthy refurbishment. If you haven’t visited the resort in a while, you’ll definitely notice some changes to the lobby and other public areas.

With the Resort’s name change (the Polynesian resumed its original, opening day name), we also welcomed a couple of exciting new additions — the Pineapple Lanai and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto. [Read more…]
