Guest Review: Eats and Treats at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea

Welcome guest author Audrey B. with a review from Tokyo Disneyland!

When I recently had the opportunity to spend the day at the Tokyo Disney Resort, I was ecstatic but a bit apprehensive about the food situation.

Tokyo Disneyland

Although I had originally planned to spend the entire day at the DisneySea park, thanks to meticulous tour planning and FastPass I was able to enjoy all of the attractions by 2pm.

I could not resist jumping on the monorail and heading over to Disneyland Park, and here’s where you’ll find one of the most popular food items in Tokyo Disney!

Souvenir Popcorn Buckets

One thing you will notice if you ever make it to this park is that nearly everyone carries a souvenir popcorn bucket!

Popcorn in Tokyo Disneyland!

The popcorn is quite a big deal and a popular snack in Tokyo Disneyland. Carts can be found throughout the park, each offering unique flavors such as Black Pepper, Sea Salt, Curry, Milk Tea, Cranberry, and Soy Sauce & Butter.

After riding Pooh’s Hunny Hunt (arguably the most advanced, whimsical, and unique dark ride ever in the entire world!), I followed my tummy for a little smackerel of Honey Popcorn! It was undoubtedly my favorite out of everything I ate on the trip!

Tokyo DisneySea

Because I spent most of my time at DisneySea, a remarkably beautiful and unique counterpart to Disneyland, we’ve got a lot to talk about here.

Maple Balls

In the Agrabah Marketplace, I found a stand called Sultan’s Oasis, which served juice, ice cream, and something called Maple Balls, which I had to try!

Maple Balls.

Not quite like doughnuts, but not quite like cake, either, these scrumptious little nuggets had a slightly chewy texture, complimented with the crunch of the walnut topping.

New York Deli

For my full meal, I headed over to New York Deli! I’ve spent lots of time in Japan, and while the warmth of the people always makes it an enjoyable experience, the cuisine is quite exotic. And most [Read more…]

Yep! Vader’s helmet has officially made its way to being a popcorn vessel!

I know you guys are with me in being big fans of the fun new popcorn buckets Disney has been introducing for holidays and special events, and I figured this one would quickly be a MUST-HAVE on many of your “bucket lists.” (Ha ha ha!!)

So even if you’re a rebel, consider crossing to the Dark Side to grab your own Vader popcorn bucket…we won’t tell! ;-)

Guest Review: Snacks at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea

Welcome back guest author Zachary Ott with a photo review of the snacks found at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea!

Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea offer some fun and unexpected eats for guests! Check out what we uncovered!

This is one of the many Disney-branded vending machines selling an assortment of soda, tea, and juice drinks.

Numerous popcorn carts dot the landscape of both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. This particular cart, found outside the Winnie the Pooh themed attraction, sells popcorn flavored with honey and matching popcorn buckets.

Other popcorn flavors included: Curry, Sea Salt, Strawberry, and Maple.

Review: Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Treats

The Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has returned to the Magic Kingdom. On select nights through November 1, 2013, this fall event at Walt Disney World offers exclusive fun to ticketed guests. DFB Author Wendy takes us on a tour of this year’s party treats…

Trick or Treat?! As fellow Disney Food Fans, I’m guessing you are definitely after the TREATS! And guests at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party have an extra assortment to choose from, exclusive to the Party!

Welcome sign!

Upon entering the Magic Kingdom, Party guests are presented with a Trick-or-Treat bag and a park map detailing special events of the evening, including designated Treat spots to put those bags to use.

This park map is your key to finding the exclusive goodies! You’ll find the list of stops on the back.

Food and Beverages

Let’s have a taste!

First stop: Storybook Treats in Fantasyland!

This little spot specializes in soft serve ice cream concoctions, so it makes sense that this is the home of Candy Corn Soft Serve.

Candy Corn Cone Sign

Your choice of cup or cone of blended orange and vanilla soft serve comes sprinkled with crushed pieces of (what else?) Candy Corn!

Candy Corn Cone

The sign says “Vanilla Soft Serve,” but the orange ice cream definitely lends a subtle creamsicle taste that was really enjoyable!

People typically fall into one of two camps: there are Candy Corn People, and there are Non-Candy Corn people. I am a Non-Candy Corn person (just not a fan of the texture), so I wasn’t especially excited by this offering. However, the ice cream itself was so yummy, and the candy corn lent it such festivity that I gave this one a thumbs-up!

Next stop: Gaston’s Tavern in New Fantasyland!

Gaston's Tavern

A word of caution: you may want to hold off before scrolling down your screen and brace yourself, because what you’re about to see is VERY. SCARY.

Ghosts on display

Okay, not really… it’s just cute! Gaston’s is serving up Ghost Cupcakes!

Disney Popcorn Gallery

We always love adding to our Disney food galleries!

From Margaritas to Ice Cream to Creme Brulee and more, we’re always collecting options and photos to share with you. And we quickly realized that there was one salty snack missing from our gallery list! What’s a trip to Disney without at least one bucket of Popcorn?

I think Disney popcorn is some of the best popcorn anywhere, and while newfangled snacks and treats will come and go, the classics will never go away.

You’ll find carts selling popcorn all over Walt Disney World and Disneyland, as well as in some of the resorts that also draw visitors, like Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. But there’s even more variety to it than that, so we’ve put together this handy gallery to showcase all the great popcorny options available!

You Never Get Tired of Disney Popcorn!

We’re going to share with you some of our favorite popcorn and popcorn-related goodness, but be sure to let us know your favorites or anything we don’t mention in comments below! Also, please keep in mind, especially in regard to menu items that include popcorn, that menus are constantly changing, so you may not always see these items when you visit a restaurant.

Disney Popcorn: A Classic

In need of some popcorn at Disney? You never have far to look. In fact, if your first stop is Magic Kingdom, you encounter a popcorn stand as soon as you set foot onto Main Street USA! Some of our readers say that Disney popcorn is the best-tasting in the world — and who am I to disagree?

Disney Popcorn!

And another great bit of news — Disney popcorn is vegan and gluten-free! Popcorn is naturally devoid of gluten. But the kernels are popped in a combination of coconut, corn, and canola oil, and are seasoned with kosher salt, so there are no animal products used. (Disney cautions that because the popcorn is prepared in outdoor locations, there is potential for cross-contamination. When in doubt of a food’s ingredients, be sure to ask for an ingredient list.)

Souvenir Buckets

If you think the fun stops with the snack, well…then let me show you something completely awesome. In addition to the crunchy goodness, you can also amass a completely fabulous collection of souvenir buckets should you be so inclined.

Collect different ones from each Disney park! Here’s one from Animal Kingdom, [Read more…]

New! Souvenir Dumbo Popcorn Container in Disney World

We starting hearing from our DFB Readers about these brand new Dumbo themed souvenir popcorn buckets in Disney World’s New Fantasyland last week, and I couldn’t wait to see them!

DUMBO!!!!

New Souvenir Dumbo Popcorn Container in Disney World's Magic Kingdom

Found in Magic Kingdom’s Storybook Circus, these are unlike any other souvenir containers we’ve ever seen.

Usually, souvenir containers are, themselves, filled with popcorn. But it looks like these are just “carrying cases” for a regular box of Disney popcorn.

Top 12 Salty Snacks in Walt Disney World — What’s Your Favorite?

We talk a lot around here about Disney’s sweet snacks, and with good reason: nothing says indulgence like a bit of Disney ice cream or a monster cupcake.

But everyone knows that sweet snacks are even better with a salty chaser! ;-)

Salty indulgences abound at Disney World, too! And we think it’s time to give them their day in the spotlight!

So without further adieu, we’d like to take a brief look at some of our favorites in our salute to the Top 12 Salty Snacks in Walt Disney World!

Disney Popcorn

Alrighty, folks, we have to start with the obvious one: Popcorn.

How can you discuss Disney World salty snacks and not mention it? In fact, how can you go to a Disney park and not end up munching on this snack favorite?

We love popcorn in all its personalities — from the standard bucket you buy as soon as you walk into Magic Kingdom, to caramel corn at Big Top Treats or Karamell-Küche. And when popcorn started popping up on Disney menus a while back, we were all for it!

NEW Disney Parks Popcorn Boxes!

But the best version remains that classic Disney popcorn box full of buttery (flavored) yellow kernels of fluffy goodness. Do yourself a favor and don’t leave without trying a box.

Chicken Waffle Sandwich

Over at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments, you’ll find a lovely little assortment of waffles to satisfy your salt craving.

What? You ask. Waffles = salt? When they’re in the form of waffle sandwiches — they sure can be!

Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich in Disney World

And my favorite when I’m satisfying a savory craving is the Spicy Chicken Sandwich. Sweet/spicy chicken with a touch of coleslaw offers a treat with complicated flavors, but a sure comfort food factor.

The perfect combo of sweet, salty, and slightly spicy, this sandwich will leave you full, happy, and ready to tackle the rest of those Disney miles! Just know that this thing can be uber messy, so bring lots of napkins!

Nachos

I dearly love a plate of nachos, don’t you? And when I’m in the mood for this Tex-Mex treat, I head to La Cantina de San Angel in the Mexico Pavilion at Epcot.

Nachos with Cheese, Beef, and Jalapenos at Cantina de San Angel

The salty trifecta of chips, plastic cheese, and seasoned ground beef is perfection! And if you’re looking to add to it — try washing them down with a margarita, of course!

Want some less-fussy nachos? Head over to Casey’s Corner for an awesome version with just nacho cheese — or with chili and cheese! We’re also fans of the versions at Big River Grill and ESPN Club on the Boadwalk. Where do you find your favorite nachos in Disney World?

Tomato Basil Soup

If you’re in the mood for a good bowl of soup (fitting during the relatively cold Orlando days this past weekend), then head to Pinocchio Village Haus for their [Read more…]

Woo-hoo!!!! More awesomeness from New Fantasyland!

This time — we get to see the MENU for Gaston’s Tavern, a brand new counter-service location in the Magic Kingdom! And — bonus — we get a peek INSIDE as well! Let’s go beyond the New Fantasyland Castle Wall for a look…

First up, let’s take a little tour of what you’ll experience when you head into Gaston’s Tavern in Disney World’s New Fantasyland. Thanks to the Disney Parks Blog for some wonderful pics!

Review: House-Made Caramel Corn and More at Big Top Treats in the New Fantasyland

We’ve waited for months (sometimes it seems like years!) for the debut of the first sections of the New Fantasyland in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, and now we can finally say…

Welcome to Storybook Circus!

Sections of Storybook Circus have been open for a while — we even scoped it out a bit here!

But today we’re taking a more in-depth tour of Storybook Circus in the New Fantasyland — with a special emphasis on all the fantastic new FOOD, including the house-made caramel corn! But more about that later…

Welcome Area Outside

Occupying the area that was once Mickey’s Toontown Fair, Storybook Circus is themed as an old-fashioned circus straight out of the picture books that I loved as a kid.

Here, you’ll see plenty of touches that recall beloved scenes and a fun retro vibe from the classic film Dumbo, with lots of other Disney characters thrown in for good measure!

Big Top Souvenirs and Big Top Treats Show Kitchen

Big Top Souvenirs takes center stage in Storybook Circus. Inside the huge tent structure, you’ll also find Big Top Treats right in the middle, complete with a show kitchen.

Review: Frozen Lemonade Flavor Shots in Disneyland

Happy 4th of July, everyone!! Today I wanted to share some wonderful Summertime treats in Disneyland. These are the perfect compliment to those hot, hot days…

Frozen Lemonade…and Then Some!

First up, I had to document for you one of my favorite Summer treats. We all love frozen lemonade — and you’ve probably seen it in pre-mixed strawberry or raspberry versions.

But what makes it awesome here is the option to add flavor shots while pouring the icy snack!

Shot of Cherry

Recently, as I was wandering around Disneyland, I made my way back to Fantasyland and noticed a sign for frozen lemonade. Score!

Lemonade Kiosk

But this wasn’t just any frozen lemonade. These lemonades were available with made-to-order flavor shots in either cherry or raspberry! The awesome Cast Member (shhh!) let me go behind the counter to get some great shots of her flavor shot technique.
