It’s Independence Week in Disney World!

In honor of the celebrations, we’re highlighting the special “Limited Time Magic” treats you can find around the World this week.

These snacks are available only until July 7th; so grab one while you can! Included are an incredible Apple Pie Cupcake; a red, white, and blue Baked Alaska; and even a patriotic Strawberry Shortcake, complete with rich red strawberries and sweet blueberries!

DFB guest photographer Kara B. is there now, reporting live! Let’s dive in…

Apple Pie Cupcake at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

If you’re visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios this week, look for the Apple Pie Cupcake for an all-American treat!

Stop by ABC Commissary, Pizza Planet, Backlot Express, Studio Catering Co., Starring Rolls Cafe, Rosie’s All-American Café, and Fairfax Fare for this limited edition cupcake priced at $4.99 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit.

Red, white, and blue sprinkles and a festive white chocolate Mickey Mouse add to the charm of this holiday cupcake. We love all of that caramel buttercream frosting with the extra apple crisp topping!

Mixed in with the vanilla cake is an apple pie filling!

The cake gets great reviews, while the frosting is super-sweet. The apple pie streusel on top is the best part according to our reviewers!

The Magic Kingdom is celebrating the holiday with the addition of a colorful strawberry blueberry shortcake sundae at Storybook Treats for $4.99.

We’re so excited to say that this sundae — pictured below — was the FIRST one to be ordered, served, and enjoyed by a Disney World guest!

Guest Review: Royal Court Aboard the Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

It’s time to step aboard the Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship! Today, guest author Rachel Gardner brings us a wonderful review from the princess-themed Royal Court — one of the rotational dining restaurants on this gorgeous Disney Cruise Line ship.

The Royal Court Restaurant on Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Fantasy, is a princess haven!

The restaurant has the princess concept refined to its most basic elegance. This sophisticated restaurant located on Deck 3, adjacent to the lobby, reflects each princess through unique and breathtaking mosaics!

The stroke of midnight!

There are two rooms set off from the main dining hall with even more princess décor including beautiful (they look hand-painted!) plates.

Beauty and the Beast Plates.

One of the two rooms is dedicated to The Princess and the Frog, with large tiled mosaics on the walls.

The Princess and the Frog!

Princess motifs adorn the restaurant as well. They are so subtle, yet I made it my personal mission to try to spot the unexpected.

Chandelier in lobby area - notice the crowns on top!

Carriage lamps - I want one!

The music that plays throughout the restaurants includes songs from classic [Read more…]

Disney Strawberry Shortcake Desserts

STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE! Anyone who’s been to Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue at Fort Wilderness knows how historic this dessert is at Walt Disney World!

And, luckily, there are several versions to sample around the parks and resorts! Let’s take a peek at a few that we enjoy…

Strawberry Shortcake at Sunshine Seasons

Nestled on the lower level of the Land pavilion in Epcot, Sunshine Seasons is known for market-fresh eats.

One of the best desserts at Epcot (and also a great value) is the strawberry shortcake. Fresh strawberries, smooth whipped cream and gorgeous vanilla shortcake are layered together for a fresh and decadent treat.

Snack Series: Fudge Brownie and Strawberry Shortcake Sundaes at Storybook Treats

UPDATE: Please note that as of June 2015, the Fudge Brownie and Strawberry Shortcake Sundaes are no longer being served at Storybook Treats.

I’d been hearing from far and wide about the yummy sundaes at Storybook Treats (formerly Mrs. Potts’ Cupboard) in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland, and while doing research for our DFB Mini-Guide to Magic Kingdom Snacks I finally got to try them!

There are plenty of sweet options at this little stand, sandwiched between Friar’s Nook and The Many Adventure’s of Winnie the Pooh. But some of the best known are the Strawberry Shortcake Sundae and the Fudge Brownie Sundae.

What makes these stand out in the Magic Kingdom? Well, at many stands this size you’ll find the option to purchase soft service ice cream and cookies, but this is one of the only spots that offers unique dessert options like the sundaes (you really can’t get these at other [Read more…]
