New!: Fruits of Mo’ara Fruit Bar in Animal Kingdom’s Pandora — The World of AVATAR

By now we’ve all seen images (or been in the thick!) of the massive crowds at Pandora — The World of AVATAR in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

We’ve braved those crowds to give you the skinny on eats at Satu’li Canteen (including breakfast!) and the drinks at Pongu Pongu. Oh, and let’s not forget the fun pre-packaged snacks exclusive to Pandora! (VEIN POD!!!!)

But as it turns out, folks have still gotta figure out a way to beat the crazy heat even in picturesque Pandora. So today we’re checking out what is thus far the only bottled drink and ice cream cart in the World’s newest land.

Just like everything else in Pandora, the cart is themed its new home. As opposed to your typical Ice Cream Novelties Cart, you’re instead visiting ACE Mobile Treats (the “ACE,” of course, referring to Alpha Centauri Expeditions, the interplanetary travel company that helps humans like us explore Pandora today).

Beverage offerings include standard bottled hydration options you’ll find elsewhere: bottles of Dasani, smartwater, and Powerade, along with Zico Coconut Water (here in Watermelon Raspberry) and vitaminwater (Dragonfruit flavored!). [Read more…]

Review: Mochi Ice Cream and Hello Kitty Mochi in Epcot’s Japan Pavilion

We recently we dug our spoons once more into Kaki Gori, the Japanese Shaved Ice served at Kabuki Cafe. For years now, it’s been THE go-to treat as far as frozen options in the Japan Pavilion go, perfect for the cooling down in the current summer heat.

But did you know that Japan has got another — perhaps more authentic — frozen snack to keep your temperature down? It’s called Mochi. And though it’s been hanging around at the carts in the pavilion on-and-off for years, this additional cart we spotted recently seems to be mostly Mochi-centric. [Read more…]

Review: New Giant Sundaes Debut at Taste Track in Epcot

What do you need after taking a speedy spin on everyone’s favorite design-your-own-vehicle attraction, Test Track? A snack, y’all! (FYI: Most questions can be answered with “a snack.”) And we’re thrilled to tell you that the Test Track-adjacent Taste Track beverage and snack kiosk is open — again — for business!

Review: Kaki Gori Treats at the Japan Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase

Let’s be real: the temperatures in central Florida can be downright stultifying. But thankfully, Disney has provided many, many, many options for ice cold refreshment. And if you’re in the World Showcase at Epcot, tons of these awesome options are just a short walk away.

One of our favorites is located in the Japan Pavilion. Die-hards know it well — it’s Kaki Gori, and it’s a winner! Kabuki Cafe itself is super cool, featuring architectural details in keeping with its pavilion. You’ll find clay tile shingles on the roof, and paper lanterns hanging from the eaves.

Review: Lemon Berry Mousse Cake at Epcot’s Sunshine Seasons

Sunshine Seasons sure is putting the emphasis on seasons these days.

We took major notice two years ago when the Warm Peanut Butter Brownie came straight from nowhere to completely wow us. In the time it took us to fall smack dab in love, we also found out it was a “seasonal” item, which may or may not be there on the next visit.

Of course, we’ve seen plenty of seasonally rotating options in the practically famous Sunshine Seasons bakery case. Now, here’s why you need to keep an eye out: some seasonal items are labeled as such. Take, for instance, the Warm Apple Crisp, which was simply labeled “Seasonal Dessert” in the case. Others, though, just seem to appear with the change of… well, the seasons!

And the Lemon Berry Mousse Cake, which we’re sharing with you today, heralds the fruity flavors of spring and summer in a somewhat unexpected fashion.

Even tucked in among longtime crowd favorites like the Carrot Cake Cupcake, Key Lime Tart, and the Mickey Whoopie Pie, the Lemon Berry Mousse Cake still manages to stand out thanks to its unique appearance comprised of deep purple mousse and yellow cake with a whipped cream garnish.

Review: Beauty and the Beast-themed Twists and Treats at Disneyland’s Maurice’s Treats

If you’ve been keeping tabs on the latest offerings in both Disney World and Disneyland, it will come as no surprise that there is no shortage of specialty themed snacks on both coasts in honor of the Beauty and the Beast live action film that is currently tearing up the box office.

Fittingly, one of the spots in Disneyland carrying special treats for the occasion is Maurice’s Treats, located near the entrance to Fantasy Faire. As always, our Disneyland correspondent Heather Sievers was on hand to get us the scoop on the latest themed eats at Maurice’s Treats! [Read more…]

Review: Strawberry Cheesecake at Restaurantosaurus

You’re gonna hear us saying this a lot over the next several months: there’s a TON of stuff going on in the Disney food world at Animal Kingdom.

First we’ve got quality bites at Tiffins and Nomad Lounge. Second we will soon have two brand new dining options in Pandora — The World of AVATAR: Pongu Pongu and Satu’li Canteen. And third, old standbys like Yak and Yeti and Flame Tree Barbecue are still killin’ the food game. Animal Kingdom has stepped up the food game yet again.

But should you find yourself way over in Dinoland digging on something sweet and indulgent, adventure your way right over to Restaurantosaurus. It’s just past the spinning triceratops and across the way from the dig site. You can’t miss it.

While I LOVE Restaurantosaurus, we have had a bit of a hit or miss relationship with Animal Kingdom’s desserts-in-a-glass, and we’re happy to see them being replaced by better options. The Warm Turtle Brownie we tried recently was a big hit! And since we’re always open to try new things, on this visit we ordered the Strawberry Cheesecake.

Let’s just start by saying this ain’t a dessert in a glass. Look at that crust! It’s all graham crackers and buttery-ness! It’s just the right thickness to add texture without overwhelming the contents of its shell.

Review: Ice Cream Float from Main Street Plaza Ice Cream Parlor

With all the incredible new items popping up on menus around Disney World, sometimes a food fan’s just gotta go back to her roots.

In this case we are referring to a good old fashioned Ice Cream Float.  Of course, when you’re talking ice cream in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, you have to talk about the Main Street Plaza Ice Cream Parlor.

There are plenty of reasons why we love this joint. When we grab an ice cream treat here, we have a front row seat to Cinderella Castle. And then there’s the variety of ice cream on the menu, including options for vegans, the lactose intolerant, and those who avoid sugar.

And recently the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor introduced a new breakfast menu featuring a Donut Sundae. Seriously, y’all, this place just gets better and better.

But if you’re an ice cream treat traditionalist and the Donut Sundae is a little too busy for you (it takes all kinds), Plaza Ice Cream Parlor has you covered too.  And on a recent visit, we went for an old standard: the Hard-Scooped Ice Cream Float. [Read more…]

Review: Shangri-La Berry Freeze at Animal Kingdom’s Upcountry Beverages

How often do you find yourself in the shade of the mammoth Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and think: “Gosh, a tasty beverage would sure hit the spot right now.”

Upcountry’s Shangri-La Berry Freeze at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

If you’re anything like me, that happens pretty often, actually! Ever on my quest to try everything in all the parks, today I’m heading back to Upcountry Beverages in search of refreshment. [Editor’s Note: Since the writing of this post, the name of Upcountry Beverages has been changed to Warung Outpost.]

Atmosphere

Haven’t heard of Upcountry Beverages? It’s on that trek between Harambe Village in Africa and Anandapur in Asia. You’ll find Upcountry situated just outside of the Flights of Wonder attraction.

The cute little kiosk has a sort of rustic Asian theme happening, so it’s the perfect decor for blending into this area — the Africa-Asia crossroads.

Disney Recipe: Strawberry Soup from Disney World’s 1900 Park Fare

Some dishes are the stuff of Disney legends.

If friends tell you they’re dining in at ‘Ohana, for instance, the first words out of my mouth are “save room for dessert! You’ve gotta try the bread pudding!”

The same certainly goes for 1900 Park Fare at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.

While our experiences here have been varied, many readers love the place! And one dish I agree is outstanding is the cold Strawberry Soup.

Creamy, sweet, and beautifully bright pink, the soup beckons to you, and you just know you must try it. Of course, it’s hard to describe this. I’m usually not a fan of cold soup, but I couldn’t get enough of this one!

The enormous bowl of bright red strawberries, to be used as a garnish, sweetens the deal.
