Review: New Menu at Beaches and Cream in Disney’s Beach Club Resort

Recently, we told you about about a new menu at one of my very favorite spots in all of Disney World: Beaches and Cream at Disney’s Beach Club Resort.

With so many loyal fans, many of you expressed concern for the changes and wondered if the new options would measure up. I was right there with you! So does Beaches and Cream still rate as THE place to go for burgers and sundaes at Walt Disney World?

Time to find out! We headed over ASAP to try out the new menu…

Atmosphere

Walk into Beaches and Cream, and you’ll feel that you just traveled back in time to that beach side soda fountain of family vacations gone by. From the tall and frosty Orange Sunshine to the flavored cokes, this place will definitely bring back memories.

Don’t you love the beach balls decorating the booths? They’re a completely awesome pop of color and immediately make me smile every time I see them.

Seating and Beach Balls!

Seating is comfortable (snag one of the three booths if you can!). And don’t forget to check out the ice cream cone-shaped lights…

Pastel musical notes and beach towels romp alongside some of the fun dishes served at the restaurant in this colorful mural.

Mirrored glass shelves host a collection of Coca Cola in glass bottles, as well as an impressive array of glassware. This is a great reminder that you can still get your “soda pop” as a fountain drink, or in a cool “nostalgia bottle.”

Disney’s Soda Fountain: The Brave Sundae & Breakfast with Merida

Last Friday I had the pleasure of visiting the El Capitan in Hollywood to see Disney/Pixar’s latest masterpiece, Brave…

…and then to indulge in a little post-movie treat!

“Merida’s Perfect Target” Sundae

After the movie, we headed next door to Disney’s Soda Fountain to check out their newest ice cream creation inspired by Brave: Merida’s Perfect Target. The sundae features shortbread cookie crumbs topped with strawberry cheesecake ice cream, strawberry sauce, whipped cream, and a fresh strawberry.

It’s finished off with a shortbread “Target” cookie that is designed to look like the archery targets Merida aims for in the movie.

Merida's Perfect Target Sundae

I love fruity sundaes and I love cheesecake, so this combo was perfect for me. I was a little concerned about the shortbread cookie and cookie crumbles; I thought that maybe they’d be [Read more…]

Guest Review: Lunch at Everything POP Food Court in Disney’s Pop Century Resort

Welcome back guest author Catie Hiltz with a groovy review from Pop Century’s food court. Let’s join her for lunch…

My husband, parents and I were lucky enough to spend a week in Walt Disney World after Easter, and I have to say one of the best parts of the trip was the POP Century Resort. I was expecting it to be like the other Value Resorts, but I really loved the themeing and décor, the rooms were clean and not too wildly decorated, and we all especially loved the Everything POP Food Court.

The outside of the POP Century Food Court

On this particular day, we came back around 2pm from a morning at the parks and decided to grab lunch here.

Atmosphere

Everything POP is arranged in a big open food court/shopping area, where the Resort gift shop is essentially part of the food court (which I really loved, because it combined 2 of my all time favorite things — food and shopping!).

The food court was relatively quiet and laid back, something you might not expect from a food court at a busy Disney Resort during Spring Break (and it was never too crowded, even on later trips back during busier times!). It never felt crowded and we never waited more than 5 minutes for food or to check out.

Review: Ghirardelli Soda Fountain

There are lots of great spots to grab dessert in Orlando’s Downtown Disney, but a favorite of many of our readers is Ghirardelli Chocolate Shoppe and Soda Fountain.

This chocolate-lovers’ heaven has both a chocolate store and an ice cream and soda fountain, so it’s the perfect spot to grab a sweet treat.

We’ve written about Ghirardelli before, but when we stopped in to have a couple of our own custom creations, I knew I wanted to tell you about those as well!

The first thing to know is that the store and ice cream shop are separate. If you’re in the wrong one, go outside and head next door. :-) Once you get into the ice cream shop, you’re greeted with a [Read more…]

“Spaghetti” Sundae at Disney’s Soda Fountain!

For the run of Lady and the Tramp up at El Capitain Theatre in Hollywood, Disney’s Soda Fountain and Studio Store is offering another featured sundae! This time, it’s the L’amore e un Spaghetti Sundae — an adorable sundae designed to look like it came straight out of Tony’s Italian Restaurant from the movie.

L'amore e un Spaghetti Sundae Description

Strawberry & vanilla ice cream are swirled with strawberry & chocolate sauces, then topped with two “meatless” balls (aka chocolate truffles) accompanied by a serving of “spaghetti” icing. Isn’t it [Read more…]

A Valentine’s Day “Family Date” at Disney’s Soda Fountain

When I think of  Lady and the Tramp, my mind immediately goes straight to the “Spaghetti Kiss” outside of Tony’s Italian restaurant where the cute pups enjoy their first date. Well… that and the Siamese cat scene.

This year, Disney’s Soda Fountain and Studio Store in Hollywood is celebrating Valentine’s Day with a very special candlelight dinner where you can engage in your own spaghetti kiss, if you please…

Here comes the spaghetti kiss!

My family and I headed to Hollywood on a family “Valentine’s Day” date night to check it out.

The first thing I noticed was the adorable set up. The decor included red and white table cloths, candlelight, and even bread sticks. Just like the movie. Disney even added an extra touch, a [Read more…]

Disney’s Soda Fountain Review: The Beauty and The Beast Sundae

With Beauty and the Beast 3D hitting theaters this past Friday, Disney’s Soda Fountain is celebrating with a special movie themed sundae. My family and I hit the road to Hollywood to check it out.

Beauty and the Beast Sundae Table Topper

Almond Praline Ice Cream with a hint of strawberry sauce, swirls of whipped cream, and topped with a “Luscious” candy rose was the description.

However, as soon as it arrived at the table, I noticed that the sundae also had caramel in it! SCORE!

Beauty and the Beast Sundae

See? CARAMEL!

Although I’m still a bit sad about the fact that the Soda Fountain switched from Dewar’s ice cream to Dreyer’s, the Almond Praline that was used in this sundae was quite tasty!

I am normally not a big strawberry sauce fan, but it literally was just a [Read more…]

Hot Fudge Cookie Sundae On the Menu at Storybook Treats

UPDATE: Please note that as of June 2015, the Hot Fudge Cookie Sundae is no longer being served at Storybook Treats.

We told you earlier about the awesome hot fudge, and strawberry shortcake sundaes at Storybook Treats in the Magic Kingdom, but now there’s something even better — well, in my opinion anyway!

Introducing the Chocolate Chunk Cookie Hot Fudge Sundae at Storybook Treats!

Storybook Treats Sundae

This is SUPER exciting to me, since one of my favorite sundaes at Eat-n-Park back when I was in college was their massive cookie hot fudge sundae! I always put strawberry sauce on it, which gives me a great idea for how to alter this sundae as well… ;-) Anyway…

From Whence It Came

The menu has consistently offered a chocolate chunk cookie as well as a hot fudge brownie sundae, and my guess is that so many guests asked for the cookie to be substituted for the brownie that they decided to just make it a permanent addition to the menu!

Sundae

Also, remember that caramel sauce can be substituted for the hot fudge on most Storybook Treats sundaes. So on my visit last week, I asked if they could just add [Read more…]

Review: New and Old Beaches and Cream Desserts

Beaches and Cream is a hidden gem at Disney’s Beach Club resort. With it’s 1950’s ambiance and comfortable diner atmosphere, dining here is a lot like coming home for some guests!

We rarely make a trip to Disney World without going to Beaches and Cream. Even though the food is pretty basic, it’s the most wonderful kind of basic I know!

I stopped into Beaches and Cream on a whim with friends last week and was delighted to see a couple of brand new desserts on the menu: the chocolate cake, and the apple and craisin pie. We had to try them…and order a couple of old favorites, too!

Apple and Craisin Pie

I love apples. I love pie. And I love Craisins. So this order just made sense!

The pie comes cold, which I was surprised at, and there’s no ice cream accompaniment, so if you’re a pie-and-ice-cream kind of person, be sure to order a scoop on the side.

Apple and Craisin Pie

The filling was very gooey, which made me think it was [Read more…]
