Ready for an emotional roller coaster? Because we have some good news and some bad news regarding Wolfgang Puck Grand Cafe and Dining Room.
I always think it’s best to get the bad news out of the way first, don’t you? So, here goes…
The bad news is that Wolfgang Puck Grand Cafe will be closing up shop on August 1st.
And now, for the good news! Wolfgang Puck is not leaving Disney Springs entirely! In case you missed the news, he’ll be opening a brand new, modern restaurant in the Town Center of Disney Springs. Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill will open in 2018, and it will still feature some of the world famous chef’s most popular dishes. PLUS, the West Side location will be revamped into Jaleo, a Spanish tapas-style restaurant by Celebrity Chef Jose Andres, which will open in 2018. So two restaurants for the price of one!
So even after that announcement, I kept my recent Advance Dining Reservation at the Grand Cafe, since there will still be plenty more where this came from. AND I wanted to point out which items I most hope to see on the menu at the new digs!
First, though, let’s check out the old haunt before saying good-bye to the West Side space.
Wolfgang Puck Grand Cafe and The Dining Room are in the same general building, but there’s a cafe and a sushi bar downstairs, and a formal dining room upstairs. Plus, we can’t forget the Counter Service option with The Wolfgang Puck Express. (And don’t you worry, Express fans… the Marketplace Express location isn’t going anywhere!)
The decor is… umm, how do I say this?

Disney Springs is home to quite a few great restaurants including Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ Florida Kitchen and Morimoto Asia. And by the end of 2018 it’ll be home to five new dining concepts! AAAH!
Two new restaurants will be opening in 2018, including Jaleo, a Spanish restaurant from Chef José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup. Jaleo will “feature an extensive menu of tapas that reflect the rich regional diversity of traditional and contemporary Spanish cuisine, such as paella cooked over a wood fire, hand-carved Jamon Iberico de Bellota, and wood-grilled Iberico pork.”
Calling all artists… who also love cocktails!
On Saturday, January 23, 2016, from 12:00 – 3:00 pm, Wolfgang Puck Café in Disney Springs is hosting the Orlando branch of Wine & Canvas: a company that offers painting lessons within a party setting at bars and restaurants.
Aspiring painters attending the event at Wolfgang Puck Café will work on a piece entitled “Moon Sail,” and the price per seat to attend is $25.00.
According the to the Wine & Canvas website, upon your arrival “All of your supplies are waiting to create your masterpiece, including an apron to keep your clothes clean. Our talented local artists will instruct the featured artwork step-by-step while you relax, sip and paint along!”
By the way, though the company’s tagline is “The Painting Class with Cocktails,” consuming alcohol is by no means a requirement ;). Though guests are welcome to purchase cocktails off the Wolfgang Puck Cafe menu (not included within the admission fee for the event), anyone looking to try their hand at painting can join in, even if your beverage of choice is non-alcoholic. We’re overwhelmed with Disney news this week, so be expecting some news posts soon! Here’s the latest…
- Great (potential) news coming from Epcot’s France pavilion. Walt Disney World has filed paperwork to indicate a France Bakery expansion at Boulangerie et Patisserie!
- Disneyland is hosting a Midnight Snack at the February 29th “One More Disney Day” event. Yummy treats and hot beverages are included! Plus special menu items at select restaurants!
- And here’s the list of Walt Disney World restaurants that will be open during One More Disney Day on February 29th!
- The Hollywood Brown Derby at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is testing an interactive menu to enhance the dining experience for guests with special diets.
- The James Beard Foundation has announced semi-finalists for the 2012 Restaurant and Chef Awards, including Disney World and Orlando-area Chefs. Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Wolfgang Puck at the May Awards Reception. Congrats to the chefs!
- Tables in Wonderland has released info on its March culinary events, including an Illuminations Dessert Party!

I am FINALLY getting to review this wonderful counter service location — can you believe it’s taken this long? Well, let’s make up for lost time!
Wolfgang Puck Express is the counter-service version of the famous Chef Puck’s quintessential California cuisine. There are two locations in Disney World’s Downtown Disney — one in the Marketplace and one in the West End area (right next to the Wolfgang Puck Cafe and Dining Room).
Focusing on table-service quality food with the taglines “Simple is Delicious” and “Live, Love, Eat”, WPE strives to offer organic and locally grown ingredients whenever possible. I’m pretty sure it’s one of the best counter-service eateries on Disney property. Let’s take a look…

By now you’ve seen countless harbingers of the Walt Disney Family Museum’s historic October 2009 opening. Tickets are on sale, and sneak peeks of gallery items have been floating around the web for a while now. (Here’s an interesting introductory article by WDWforGrownups.com.)
And while I can’t wait to see Walt’s father’s fiddle, the first Dopey model figure from Snow White, Walt and Lillian’s marriage certificate, and everything else in those galleries, you KNOW what I’m most excited about in this brand new Disney establishment… .
All we know right now is that the Museum Cafe will be run exclusively by Wolfgang Puck, which you know is nothing to sneeze at if you’ve ever experienced his incredible restaurants. We’re hoping for more info about potential dishes soon, but in the meantime, the website lets us know that the cafe, “offers a menu inspired by fresh, local ingredients including healthy, organic items and many child friendly selections.” Sounds very San Francisco-y and yummy, don’t you think?
I probably won’t be able to get there for the museum’s opening, so should any of you D23ers or San Francisco-ans be willing to take photos or share a review of the cafe, let me know!
