UPDATE: Dole Whip is no longer being served at Captain Cook’s, is no longer self-serve, and is no longer available 24 hours a day. You’ll now find Dole Whip at the Pineapple Lanai in Disney’s Polynesian Village in addition to Aloha Isle at the Magic Kingdom. You can also find Dole Whip available intermittently at Animal Kingdom’s Tamu Tamu Refreshments, and at Epcot during some special events. On the upside, you can also get a Dole Whip Float at Pineapple Lanai!
Here’s the scenario: Wishes just ended. Everyone’s streaming out of the parks. The line at the Plaza Ice Cream parlor is a million miles long. You’re starving.
I have the answer!
This gem of the Polynesian Resort, right across Seven Seas Lagoon from the Magic Kingdom, has a surprising array of delicious options for munching — even later at night. Just grab the boat or the resort monorail from the Magic Kingdom over to the Polynesian and head to this little counter service spot located right next to the Volcano Pool and the Polynesian beach.
Once you get inside, head over to one of the fancy-schmancy little ordering screens to choose your poison (I have heard great things about the Grown-Up Grilled Cheese!!):
Of course, if the TV screens don’t have anything you want to try, head over to the bakery area…
…or to the refrigerator section for some sushi…
…or get yourself a DOLE WHIP!!!
Once you have your snack of choice, find a nice, quiet spot on the beach and watch the Electric Water Pageant….or just relax in a hammock while the rest of the World scurries around you. It’s a nice way to end a Disney day.

you already had me at late-night eats & then you said DOLE WHIP! i almost fainted. 😛
Yes, this is one of the hidden Dole Whip locations. What is even better is that it is Self-Serve!
I would like to know exactly what is in this “Grown-Up Grilled Cheese” as it sounds amazing.
Relaxing in a Hammock sounds very soothing right about now and would be an excellent way to end a day at the park. I’m definitely going to have to make a stop at the Polynesian Resort next time I am in the area as I have heard nothing but wonderful things about the place.
Also, is that THE Souvenir Mug on the drinks menu?
This is awesome! You and I were just talking about what to eat after hours, and this fits the bill perfectly!!
The Polynesian Chips that come with the adult sandwiches can be purchased separately, and they’re very good! They include kettle potato chips and fried wonton wrappers, like the ones that are served in the Bread & Dip assortment at Tambu Lounge.
We LOVE Captain Cooks!! I usually get the grown-up grilled cheese cause it is amazing! And the chips that come with it are wonderful. Sometimes we like to stop there and just grab something from the bakery case or grab a dole whip.
Great post! Definitely one of our favorite quick service stops 🙂
Thank you so much for this yummy information! We’re planning on visiting WDW next year with our grandchildren and it’s great to know that there’s a wonderful selection of things that I know we will all enjoy. And the fact that we’ll be staying at the Poly makes it all the more convenient. I can just taste the Dole Whips now!!!!
Glad to hear about this. I love it when dining options are open later at night. Inevitably, I am always starving right before bedtime.
If I remember right (it’s been about a year since I ordered the grilled cheese), it’s three different types of cheese (I want to say Swiss, cheddar, and maybe brie?), tomato, and sprouts on a multigrain bread. It’s really good, and you can adjust your order if you want to remove the veggies. That, the homemade chips, and a Dole whip is a perfect lunch!
I had never thought of this as an option. Great idea.
Can you believe that I finally have my first overnight at the Poly planned for Xmas. Will definitely be taking advantage of the on-site Dole Whip – at least two or three times 🙂
If the grown-up grilled cheese is as described above, I wonder why it is not on the vegetarian menu?
I really need to get to the Poly more often.
Mark, there are different type of vegetarians and some consider cheese to not be really “true” vegetarian since it comes from an animal.
Either that or there is probably something else hidden in there.
I just looked up a couple of recipes that follow the same lines and it looks like there is primarily bacon in it and sometimes ham.
Is this open during the day as well?
I think that the Grown-Up Grilled Cheese and I could be great friends.
I am also drooling over the idea of self-serve Dole Whips!
I just want to say a woot for the Grown Up Grilled Cheese! It seriously is one of the BEST sandwiches I have ever eaten! Mix it with the Poly chips and it is indeed, heaven. If you haven’t tried it yet, you must. It’s amazing!
Thanks for this post — I had no idea there were hidden Dole Whip locations! Where are the other ones?
I’d love to try this place on our next trip where I’m on the QS dining plan—looks like a lot of bang for your buck! I love the noodle bowls and flatbreads—they look awesome!
Any idea if the sushi would count as an entree on the dining plan? And would the Dole Whip count as a dessert? Mmmmmmm
This site is great….looks as if one could just be in second heaven eating their way through Disney; can’t wait!
robin — This is definitely a great stop!
Josh — Yep! The souvenir mug is on the drinks menu. Grown-up grilled cheese has cheddar, swiss, and blue cheese, I believe. (I have a pic somewhere, but can’t find it at the moment!)
Melissa Sue — Glad to hear it!
Sarah — Thanks for the info on the chips! Those sound amazing!
Melissa — Thanks for the kudos and the tips!
Sheila — So can I!
Gray — Agreed. This is a good stop right after leaving the MK.
JulfromMD — That does sound like a perfect lunch. Just eat it outside as you watch the kids playing in the pool 🙂
GG — Thanks!
Erin — I’m pretty sure you can hit it five or more times in 24 hours!
Mark and Josh — Thanks for the question/answer. I don’t think there’s meat in the sandwich, but I’m sure if there is you could order it customized meatless.
Mike — Yep! It’s open all day.
Janna — I know! I couldn’t believe that the CM was telling me to put more in the dish!
Rikki — Thanks for the review!
Jen — You can get dole whips in Disney parks at Sunshine Tree Terrace, Aloha Isle, and Captain Cook’s in WDW and at the Tiki Terrace at DL. Click on the link above to see where you can get them elsewhere in the country.
Dana — Definitely a great visit when you’re on the QS plan. Lot’s of new and different things to try.
Patricia — Oh yes, indeedy! Glad you found us!
I know what is in the grilled cheese…..american, swiss, and Boursin cheese.
I make these at home all the time now.
My family would love the recipe for the pulled pork sandwich from Capt. Cooks?!
We stayed at the Poly for our honeymoon in ’08 and I ate one of those grilled cheese sandwiches just about every single day! Uhhhh….I still dream about them!
