I have been known to post an ode or two to extinct Disney foods. And one of my most missed dishes are the Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes that used to be a fixture at ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Resort.
These potatoes — in all of their creamy, cheesy goodness — are no longer served at ‘Ohana. In their place, you’ll find a perfectly, well…fine…bowl of Lo Mein, noodle-y tangle.
Fine. But they’re no cheesy potatoes.
So imagine how the skies opened and the heavens sang when I recently ran across this recipe for the potatoes that we all knew and loved!
Now, I don’t see any shortening here, but everything else looks pretty fantastic. So I’m going out on a limb and am planning to give them a try.
You should, too.
Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes
Yield: 4 servings
Ingredients:
1 lb potatoes
1 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup cheddar cheese, grated
2 tablespoons parmesan cheese, grated
1/4 cup sweet onion, chopped
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Method:
1. Place a layer of potato slices and onion in a buttered shallow dish.
2. Sprinkle with some of the cheeses and salt and pepper.
3. Repeat layers and then pour cream over the potatoes.
4. Bake at 350 for 1 hour and then let stand 5 minutes.
I can’t wait to give these a try! It may just take some of the sting out of the fact that, years and years later, I am still missing those potatoes!
Will you be trying this version of Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes for dinner sometime soon? Leave a comment and let us know how they turn out for you!

I hope they turn out good for you, AJ. It’s so disappointing when a favorite disappears from a menu. 🙁 I think I will try this will some extra cheese; I think that we’ll really enjoy it. Thanks!
Being that we don’t eat wheat, we REALLY miss these potatoes (and don’t like those cheap noodles)! And being that we do eat heavy cream and cheese, this recipe looks AWESOME! I will be trying it soon. Thanks for the reminder!
From my experience with “potato gratin” (which basically this is) you should add some cream to each layer instead of just pouring it on top… It’ll cook the potatoes more evenly and make it even creamier…
I, too, miss this from the menu at O’hana’s…..so much so that I no longer eat there.
I’ve had this recipe for years now and I LOVE it. I’ve always made sure to use the sweet onions as other ones don’t produce the same taste.
These were so good that I requested the recipe and made them many times over (for special occasions) to rave reviews from my family and friends. No really that difficult to make.
I made these last night. Excellent!! Thank you and thanks to Disney as well. Dan Anderson
Daniel — Hooray! Thanks for letting us know!
You can still get these at Disney… go to The Wave at the Contemporary…. they are there is all their glory!
