Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery
is a simple , unassuming window-only bakery in Animal Kingdom’s Africa that boasts a LOT of cupcake goodness.
So, do you remember a few months ago, when we talked about some cupcake shake-ups at Kusafiri? To refresh your memory, a new (at that time) cupcake had joined the line-up: the Lion Cub Cupcake, featuring none other than Simba himself with a mane made of frosting.
At the same time, though, we found out that two other stars in the Disney cupcake realm had received a bit of a makeover, which left us slightly underwhelmed (the Zebra Cupcake and the White Chocolate Elephant Cupcake).
Well, there have been some more changes in Kusafiri’s cupcake world! First and foremost, with many thanks to DFB reader Cate C., we have a picture of the new Tree of Life Cupcake available now! Looks like this one’s for the chocolate lovers out there 🙂 .

Cate shared that while this one was good, she preferred the passion fruit Simba cupcake overall. (Here’s our shot of that cutie, as a reminder 🙂 ).

Okay, I know — it’s SUPER small print in the photo, so let me just tell you: The White Chocolate Elephant and Cotton Top Tamarin Cupcakes are no longer on the menu.
Now, at this time, we’re trying to determine if the Cotton Top Tamarin Cupcake is still available at its other home, Isle of Java. We’re also wondering, is it possible that these old cupcake friends could make a reappearance when the upcoming Animal Kingdom Starbucks opens its doors in a couple weeks? Or perhaps they will be a part of the dessert line-up at Zuri’s Sweets (an upcoming sweet snack spot in the all- new Harambe Market)?
We can only hope, but ultimately time will tell. In the meantime, we can at least rest assured that Kusafiri is still cranking out some great cupcakes!

I love chocolate but that cupcake does NOT look appetizing. And what happened to the Paw Print Brownie?
Hi, Sue! I’m curious about the Paw Print Brownie, too, and am hoping to have more info on that soon. Fingers are crossed that some of the treats may be relocating to some of the upcoming eateries.
I agree, Sue. Both the Tree of Life and Simba cupcakes look like they were decorated by a six-year-old or one of the bakers featured on Cake Wrecks. I like a good cupcake as much as the next girl, but maybe it’s time for Disney to move on to some new and better dessert offerings.
Is the African Spice Cake off the menu now too? I was looking forward to trying that on my upcoming October trip… 🙁

Tricia — It is. 🙁 And we are sad, too. The Cast Members that I talked to yesterday as sad about it as well! It seems like it was a favorite all the way around.
So you’re expecting Disney treats at the Starbucks locations? Any info on why the Main Street USA Starbucks doesn’t have the amazing chocolate chocolate chip muffin or huge cinnamon roll from the Main Street Bakery days? I thought the Starbucks only served the Starbucks menu. Update? I don’t drink coffee so I haven’t been into the Starbucks.
Muse7mom — Disney starbucks locations usually have one or two Disney cupcakes in them that aren’t found at other Starbucks locations.
Yet another cupcake?? Come on, enough with the cupcakes already. Have they lost all creativity?
These cupcakes look so delicious and can’t wait to try one. We have the dining plan, can you use one of your snacks for a cupcake?
NOOOOOO say it aint so. those new ones look well, how do I say this, awful, dreadful, pathetic.. the whitechocolate elephant was amazing. I still more than a year later show folks that pic and they are amazed. these new ones look like something that would come out of my kitchen (I am so not a creative or talented baker) they are just ugly. maybe they are less time consuming and they can crank out more of them cheaper and quicker
Betsey — We feel your pain! We are happy to see that the Cotton Top Tamarin cupcake has returned to Animal Kingdom as of today, though. You’ll find it at Creature Comforts, the new AK Starbucks location. Hopefully that’s a little consolation!
