Beginning Tuesday, April 5th, booking opportunities will become available for a new tour coming to Animal Kingdom Lodge: the Sense of Africa Tour.
Taking place on Tuesdays and Saturdays starting April 9th, this 3.5 hour experience is designed to engage the five senses and offer a “backstage peek at the care, feeding, well-being and social interactions of the resident animals,” such as okapi, giraffes, and ostriches.
Tour participants will start the day with a “unique twist” on breakfast at Boma, engaging the senses of Taste and Smell.
Guests will Hear the Animal Keeper Guides and Trainers sharing information regarding the animals and Animal Kingdom Lodge.
While the tour includes breakfast at Boma, tour guests aren’t the only ones who will be feasting ;). Participants will Touch their selections of treats to hide for a group of red river hogs who will be ready to find and eat the treats. (Exact experiences may vary from tour to tour.)
And, of course, throughout the tour guests will enjoy the Sights of both the animals and the Lodge itself.
The price to participate is $249.00 per person, and the tour will be offered on Tuesdays and Saturdays only. Interested guests may call 407-WDW-TOUR (939-8687) to book or learn further information. Please note, participants are NOT required to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Absolutely! If I can afford it along with the trip’s other plans (aqua seas tour), I would love to do this. I love animals.

I know two of the keepers here. I’m sure it will be a great experience, but $500 for a couple? That’s more than we pay for our weekday annual passes. Disney is increasingly becoming a place for the rich. I am sorry they are doing so poorly overseas, but why make us subsidize their mistakes.

I think we would be down for this event….IF they served us some of the animals from the tour. There are several creatures on that savanna that I haven’t had the opportunity to taste. Grilled okapi or giraffe osso bucco ?

I would love to do this but it just sounds so expensive. I will wait to read recaps and hear how it is before I actually book it.

Sounds like a lot of fun but comparing this tour or the same money for a few extra days in Disney World? No contest. I will take a few more days of fun.

I would love to do this, but we are already doing a couple other things for this trip in May. The Wayamaya Safari and Club Villain. The pictures above lead me to believe I would actually be able to pet an Okapi or Giraffe. This would make it worth it too me but also would be surprised. I did the special where you go out at AKL at night and see the animals a couple years ago and it was amazing experience, but they made a huge point of saying we could not touch the giraffe’s as they are wild and they keep them that way and only touch them as necessary for care and veterinary reasons.

On a trip in January, my parents were selected to be “test guests” to see how the animals did with these interactions. They said it was absolutely amazing. They were allowed to feed the giraffes – not touch. (I think part of it with the giraffes is that due to their size, they can hurt people without meaning to, so I’m sure the lawyers and insurers are like “nobody touches the giraffes.”) My parents did get to touch the okapi (they said it was even softer than it looked!). The caretakers had to be sure that the animal was okay with this and from what my parents said, it’s not petting the animal – just touch. They loved being near the Red River Hogs too and being able to see them so close up. Like everyone else, I think the cost is extreme, but if I wanted to do one of the Animal Kingdom/Lodge tours, this would be the one.

Sounds fun but crazy expensive, Disney is my love but looks like it’s getting to be for people who have money only!
