When traveling to Disney World with a family or group of five or more people, finding a resort that fits your family’s needs and budget can be challenging.
Should you stay in a Value, Moderate, Deluxe, or Deluxe Villa? Should you stay in one room, two rooms, or a suite? There are so many options for families of five or larger groups, and today we’re going to check out a few of them!
Value and Moderate Resorts
The Value Resorts at Disney World offer a couple of options for bigger families, including booking two rooms at the All-Star Resorts, Pop Century, or The Little Mermaid section of Art of Animation.
The Art of Animation is also home to Family Suites in the Finding Nemo, Cars, and The Lion King sections of the hotel. These suites feature two bathrooms, a separate bedroom, and can sleep up to six people!
At Disney’s All-Star Music Resort, a Deluxe Family Suite is also perfect for families of five or six guests! These suites also have a separate bedroom and two bathrooms.
If you’re looking for a Moderate Resort option, there are rooms that sleep five at Port Orleans Riverside or Caribbean Beach Resort. And, families of up to six can enjoy the space in a cabin at Disney’s Fort Wilderness!
Disney’s Deluxe Resorts and Villas
The Deluxe Resorts — including the Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Polynesian, Yacht and Beach Club, and Boardwalk Inn — are a great choice for families of five. Rooms at all of these resorts feature two queen beds and a sofa bed!
Club Level Deluxe rooms with two queen beds and a sleeper sofa may be available at Animal Kingdom Lodge, Wilderness Lodge, or BoardWalk Inn for families of six.
The Disney Vacation Club Villas also have two options for bigger families – Deluxe Studios or One Bedroom Villas. Both options provide ample space for everyone and some great amenities!
And finally, if you’re traveling with a larger group – say between eight and 12 people – the two- and three-bedroom DVC Villas are a great option!

We love Disney Vacation Club Villas!
Particularly the 1 Bedroom Villas with a full kitchen and compact washer/dryer!
But not all of them sleep 5 (some only 4 plus a child under 3 years old).

Fortunately, WDW is set up to accommodate larger families better than in the past. We’re a family of 6, and we had a few trips that required two connecting rooms (Disney says they’ll try, but they won’t guarantee it, although we were lucky). In addition, because of the lack of a kitchen, we had to go out to eat all the time, and our sons disliked the early-morning noise in the food courts. We wound up buying into DVC and have found it perfect. We get a two-bedroom apartment, with a full (small) kitchen, washer/dryer and two full bathrooms. Having the condo has made WDW trips so much easier.

Disney is like a brand of art and elegance. I just love to stay in their hotels. All are so perfect especially when you have kids with you. They have something new to serve everytime you visit. Thumbs up to your blog.

Have you got any advice for a family of seven? So far we are thinking of getting two value rooms in the same resort as it looks like non of the suites fit us. Ages, adult x 3, 16, 12, 6 and 3 years old.
DFB Sarah says
Jenni, you’re right that the suites in the Value and Moderate Resort categories can’t accommodate you. (If you had a kiddo under three, you could squeeze in by putting the little one in a pack-n-play, but once they hit three and require a park ticket, they’re also required to be included as a room occupant.) Deluxe Resorts offer suites for families up to 8, but they’re pricey. (You could still compare them to the cost of two Value rooms to see if the cost is worth it for you!) Here’s a DFB video with AJ’s recommendations for resorts for families of 5+, too. Hope this helps! Happy planning!

We are about to take our 4th trip and with family of 6 the Cabins at Fort Wilderness are great!! We also like the atmosphere and overall theme of the area!

Its great to stay at such places, as I always have been a huge fan of Disney world, it would be a great experience to explore these places with family.
It will be like dream come true experience

My family of six has stayed many times in the family suite at the All Star Music resort. We have loved it there! Having two bathrooms is a huge plus, while staying in a suite keeps the “family feel” more than two separate rooms. These suites are also located closest to the food court and bus stops, and right by the guitar pool. They are clean, comfortable, well-themed, and have all the Disney magic we love! I would highly recommend them!

Beth J., I stayed in a Music suite many years ago, and I agree with you! We enjoyed it tremendously at the time.

Just a comment… Not all rooms at Yacht & Beach Club can accommodate 5. Many have King beds and 50% do not have couches. Y&B will sell you the room, then roll a cot in if the room doesn’t have a couch.

If you’re able to book at the contemporary they also have excellent connecting rooms (each room sleeps five) which is fantastic. I think it’s most difficult with 6 people as the rooms usually sleep 5 not more unless you want to get a villa. The boardwalk also has great villas as does Saratoga Springs (a little far though)

The problem with the DVC Deluxe studios is that the other “bed”is a sleeper sofa. We stayed at one at the Polynesian, and my son and daughter-in-law found it to be VERY uncomfortable. I will never do that again. We’d be better off with 2 rooms at a value resort.

We are a family of 6 and stayed T fort wilderness cabins. We really enjoyed our stay there but ended up spend $65 dollars a day more to get a gold cart to get to the busses quickly so we didn’t need to use the internal busing system. We didn’t really use the kitchen because we had the free dining plan but it would have been nice if you want to cook to save money. The grounds were also very nice. Next time I think I would try art of animation because of the other bathroom.

I wish they offered more options for families of 6. We have stayed at AoA and have a trip booked at All Star Music later this year. I was hoping that the suites at the Rivera would accommodate us. That was a big miss on their part.

We’re a family of 8 and regularly use Boardwalk. Love walking to 2 parks and always park hop to Magic Kingdom in the evenings from Epcot’s monorail…or should I say used to. 😢
