Caribbean Beach Resort at Walt Disney World
is nearly finished its years-long renovation, and in October, visitors were finally able to enjoy one of the centerpieces of the resort’s re-imagining: Centertown Market!
We had dinner here shortly after the quick service and grab-and-go spot opened, and to be honest, it was a little hit or miss.
We loved the kids’ beef tacos, but the create-your-own-bowl with fish was kind of… wet. Still, it’s a menu packed with customizable options and several vegan/vegetarian options, so we appreciate the effort that’s gone into it.
The breakfast menu, like the dinner menu, offers several intriguing options.
The menu includes another Create-Your-Own-Bowl offering for which diners select a base, style of egg, and protein.
Other offerings include cool-sounding combinations of ingredients like Strawberry-Guava French Toast.
And since breakfast is the most important meal of the day (right along with second breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner, and dessert), we wanted to show you what Centertown Market has to offer.
I started with one of the unique flavor offerings: Strawberry-Guava French Toast. This breakfast is a House-made Thick-sliced Brioche French Toast stuffed with Guava Cream Cheese and topped with fresh Strawberry Guava and Cream Cheese Sauces.
Believe it or not, this was my least favorite item of the day. The flavors were off-putting, and the sauces on top were thick and cloying. Texturally, it was unpleasant — dense and gooey in the center and nothing really to counteract that.
All of our taste-testers were weirded out by it. Yeah, avoid the Strawberry Guava French Toast. If you’re looking for a breakfast staple to load up on carbs, the Chocolate Chip Pancakes were one of the more enjoyable items of the morning. These are standard pancakes filled and topped with mini chocolate chips. It’s definitely on the sweet side, but at least with the pancakes you get what you expect, and they taste fine.
The Open Faced Roasted Vegetable Omelet was a decent choice if you’re looking for super healthy eats. Diners can choose between cage-free eggs or egg whites, and the arugula on top is a nice addition.
It’s not particularly inspired or flavorful, but this is an acceptable, low-carb, vegetarian option for breakfast.
Bowls are all the rage at Walt Disney World right now, and Centertown Market features a Create-Your-Own-Bowl on both the breakfast and the lunch/dinner menus. For breakfast, diners select a protein, a base, and an egg. Proteins include Bacon, Rotisserie Beef, Plant-Based Sausage, and Chorizo. I went with Chorizo, and I liked the slight spice. (I pretty much always want more spice, though, and that held true here.) The scrambled eggs and home fries I chose were fine, but they weren’t anything special. That said, this was still the best item I tried at the meal.
The bowl does come with your choice of Salsa Verde or Pico de Gallo.
I also tried two of the kids’ menu options (we hear you, parents who want to know more about the kids’ menu offerings at WDW!). First up: the weirdest thing I’ve probably ever tried for breakfast: the Cage-Free Egg Popper. Believe it or not, this is basically an egg lollipop (???!!!) with Green Bacon Powder, Green Pirate Juice, Roasted Pineapple, and (actual) Bacon. In case you’re wondering, Green Bacon Powder is basically a bacon-flavored powder that’s the same texture as confectioner’s sugar…super weird, and Green Pirate Juice seemed just to be a murky-looking mix of fruit juices.
Yeah, hard pass on this one for me. Maybe a kid with an adventurous approach to food would like it, but it’s otherwise just… odd.
The Kids’ menu Chocolate Chip Pirate Doubloons & Gold Nuggets were a major improvement from the Egg Popper (but that’s not necessarily a difficult jump to make). These are essentially just small Chocolate-Chip Pancakes topped with some “gold nuggets”.
And yup, Gold Nuggets are metallic-dusted mini chocolate chips. These pancakes were fun and tasty (same standard pancake as the adult version, just smaller), and plenty of kiddos would enjoy these.
Overall, breakfast at Centertown Market was mostly a miss, unfortunately. Nothing wowed, and there were a couple of items I wouldn’t eat again. The menu features plenty of options here, but they just didn’t work for me. If you’re staying at Caribbean Beach Resort, it’s a convenient spot to fuel up for the day. But unless you’re really looking to try some unique (and possibly not great) breakfast items, Centertown Market won’t be a destination for dining.
