A new cinematic nighttime experience, the Wonderful World of Animation, was announced for Hollywood Studios at the D23 Destination D: Celebrating Mickey Mouse event in November. We learned at the time that the new show would make its debut in May.

And now Disney has provided an exact date for the new show.
Mark your calendars for May 1, 2019 (the park’s 30th anniversary) for the arrival of the Wonderful World of Animation to debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!
According to Disney, “the show will use state-of-the-art projection technology to take guests on a magical journey through more than 90 years of Disney animation, all beginning with Mickey himself.”
Other transformations coming to Hollywood Studios in the New Year include the opening of a brand new attraction, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and a little something called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. 😉

Love the blog and your videos! Just wondering is the Wonderful World of Animation replacing Fantasmic? My mother and I will be going to WDW the week of May 13th and we were planning to see the show. This looks awesome too. Just wondering if it’s replacing Fantasmic or is this something totally seperate? Thank You!!!
I’m planning to be at HS that day! So excited to see this BUT do you think this will majorly change the crowd level?? ?
Mickey and Minnie railway….I’m so excited for that. I’ve never been a huge WE fan, but it will be interesting to immerse yourself into the experience. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it someday!
Does anyone know if this new show is replacing or preceding the Star Wars fireworks? The Star Wars dessert party bookings are only available until April 30, 2019, the day before this new event.
Anna, there may be a slightly elevated crowd level for the show, but it’s impossible to know for sure. Have a terrific trip!

Darrel, that’s a good question — and one that we are still chasing down an answer for! Nothing has been confirmed either way (no end dates for the SW show announced or anything like that), so we’re waiting to see how it unfolds.
