Guests may notice something different the next time they visit Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop in Disney Springs. For many years, guests could stroll inside the retail portion of the location and would often find a Cast Member distributing chocolate square samples to guests upon entry.

However, that is no longer the case — at least it wasn’t as of January 16th. BUT…we’ve got some updates to this tale to share…(Note that this post has been updated as of January 21st as we follow this developing story, so read on…)

In speaking with a Cast Member to confirm on January 16th, we were informed that samples may still be available, but would be distributed differently. We were told that guests are welcome to ask Cast Members for a sample, and may even be able to choose their favorite from a selection! As always, your mileage will vary depending on what cast member you speak to. We’ve heard from readers who have experienced both positive and negative outcomes.

However! We have updated this post to share that not only are we hearing reports that the previous distribution of samples to all guests has resumed — but a member of the DFB team even received a sample upon walking into the store over this weekend! (The picture below was taken on January 19th.)

So, we don’t know exactly what’s happening or how long this return to the old distribution style will continue. But it sure is fun to watch and we’ll keep you posted!
