The D23 Expo kicks off at the Anaheim Convention Center tomorrow and continues through the weekend, but exciting, Lava Monster-igniting details are already beginning to emerge about the Walt Disney Company’s Expo announcements. And tonight, we’re bringing you some attraction news worth going beyond the reef for!!
According to DFB pal Carlye Wisel (check out her Twitter @CarlyeWisel!) and Disney Parks Blog, Epcot will get the first-ever Moana-themed attraction — and we’ve even got the proposed name!
Grab your paddle, and brace yourself for Journey of Water!
First, let’s just say: the retro Epcot styling on the poster is bringing us back to life like Te Fiti when Moana replaces her heart. But also: a splashy hooray for BIG new attractions news!
And, in addition to the name, Disney Parks Blog just released concept art for what looks like the attraction’s entrance! The distinct Heart of Te Fiti swirl is surrounded by cascades of water (of course!)!
And this is just the beginning. Many, many (did we mention many?) more announcements are expected, so stick with DisneyFoodBlog because we’re bringing you updates all weekend long — and we promise you will NOT want to miss a single detail! You’re welcome!

So where is this going to be? I am SO disappointed how Epcot is not the learning park and becoming a movie park like the HS and MK. My kids loved the learning part from 3 on. Sad times here. Keep the kids stuff at MK or HS. Update Epcot and not with kids stuff.
Kamile Bettencourt says
looks amazing! any idea where it will be in epcot?
Brittney says
This is so cool! I wonder where it will be located though? Since part of Epcot is undergoing major renovations, maybe it’ll be housed in a new building?
Jean B says
So, where are they putting it?
DFB Sarah says
No word yet on where the Moana-inspired attraction will be. We’re hoping for more information on Sunday morning!

I will miss all the learning stuff as well. Epcot had always been my son’s favorite since he was little. I especially loved the Epcot Education department you could call into to get information even from home. My son couldn’t figure out how plants remained upright when underwater. He called and rather than just giving him an answer, let him to different places where he could figure out the answer. It was a wonderful service that they provided. They also had wonderful resources for teachers which I used with our Girl Scout troops as well.

How is this not being placed at the living seas?

Hmmm…if I was a betting man, I’d say possibly the imagination pavilion? A nod to its jumping water feature and a take on the “Journey into Imagination” name. Although with Figments Festival presence, not sure they’d eliminate him at this point?
Dave says
Maybe imaginations area, it would fit in there
Dave says
Look at the poster….fountains are already there

My guess is that they are going to replace the Nemo ride with this one…the concept art suggests that they are going to revamp where all of the seagulls are and make it into the waterfalls…and the name would fit with the area.
AKB says
I too am missing the science aspect of what EPCOT started with in the beginning. I think of it every time I go there. Hopefully this revamp and bringing in new attractions will keep the learning going for the next generations. I always felt this was a big plus for spending lots of time in EPCOT.
DFB Sarah says
AKB, we’ll learn more this afternoon about Epcot’s transformation!

There is much to be learned from the Polynesians and the cultures represented in Moana. To say that the movie or subject matter has no educational value is honestly quite offensive. This animated movie means so much to me. Did the movie not show Wayfinding, traveling the vast ocean expanse being guided by the stars? Wasn’t there a whimsical song about all the uses of a coconut & how how island cultures work together to make a Village? This is real life still for some and how my mother was raised. Respect the land, the water, your ancestors — MOANA means Ocean.
“The ancient Polynesians navigated their canoes by the stars and other signs that came from the ocean and sky. Navigation was a precise science, a learned art that was passed on verbally from one navigator to another for countless generations.Feb 14, 2000

Water is essential to life and ppl can possibly learn a lot from an exhibit like this, so it would fit right into the idea of a learning park.
