Meetings of the Re-Open Florida Task Force are now underway. Formed in response to the need for a strategy to safely re-open the Florida economy in light of the current global health situation (which has, of course, resulted in the temporary closure of Disney Parks around the globe including Florida’s Walt Disney World), the task force is including the state’s tourism industry within its areas of focus.

The Task Force Executive Committee includes Josh D’Amaro, President of Walt Disney World, and John Sprouls, CEO of Universal Orlando Resort among its 22 members of business, education, tourism, and state leaders.
Yesterday’s 10:00 AM meeting included the presentation of a marketing plan created by Visit Florida CEO Dana Young. It was noted in the meeting that Visit Florida “has helped rebuild Florida’s economy after Hurricane Irma, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and other tragedies.”

According to NBC2News, Young outlined a four-step plan aimed at rebuilding the state’s economy specifically with regard to tourism.
The first step is to “gather data and share messages of hope” through Visit Florida social media accounts.
The second step — which may begin when public health officials lift stay-at-home orders and determine that it is safe for hospitality businesses to reopen — will see Visit Florida marketing to Floridians directly, encouraging state residents to take “stay-cations.” (This step aligns with the potential for a “gradual reopening” of theme parks first to Floridians, then to national and international guests.)

Step three will begin when Visit Florida’s Vacation Planning site experiences an increase in page visits. Visit Florida will then release a campaign directed towards domestic visitors, encouraging them to visit Florida.
Step four will follow with marketing directed to international visitors.

Being an annual “international” visitor I am happy to wait for phase four. Unlike the inconsistent, confusing information that your president says every day in his campaign speech, Prime Minister Trudeau and all opposition government officials in Canada are correctly advising Canadians to stay home and that this will last thru the summer. But only if we All follow the proper advice. I’m very concerned, as I see Florida residents lounging together on the beach and know that we’ll never get past phase one unless people stay home now. Listen to Dr. Fauci and ignore the others whose only goal is to be elected. Stay safe and I’ll be “back home” next spring.
Jim, I also think the stay at home orders are set to last longer than it appears. Most people forget that those from other places are not just waiting for Florida to end the stay at home orders, but also those other home countries or home states. So, it will be a while before the parks are open again. Waiting until next spring is a great idea.
Well said Jim Anthony! I’m a Texan eagerly anticipating the time when I can safely visit WDW again. Each person needs to do their part to stop the spread so that everyone can be safe and go back to normal. I’m crossing my fingers that a vaccine is produced quickly (and that it works)!
